  1. Figo heads to Inter for medical

Real Madrid midfielder Luis Figo has flown to Inter Milan to undergo a medical ahead of signing a reported two-year deal with the club.

The 32-year-old left Real's training camp in Austria on Thursday in order to make the trip to Italy.

"I'm going to see if Inter will let me play a bit of football," said Figo, who fell out of favour at Real last season.

"On Saturday I'll give a news conference to say goodbye to the Real fans as I can't do that by playing."

The Portuguese star was linked with a move to Liverpool earlier in the summer, but a proposed deal fell through when Real demanded a fee.

Figo joined Madrid for £37m in 2000 in a sensational transfer from arch rivals Barcelona.

He was widely regarded as the big-spending club's first ever "galactico" and helped them to the league title in his first full season at the club.

The former World and European Player of the Year went on to play an important part in Real's victory in the 2002 European Cup and 2003 Spanish championship.

    Story from BBC SPORT:

  2.   Manchester City are poised to make an improved offer for Fulham's French midfield man Steed Malbranque after having a £4m bid turned down.

City boss Stuart Pearce wants to add the 25-year-old to his squad after losing England star Shaun Wright-Phillips to Chelsea for £21m.

Fulham have snubbed the first approach, but City will return on Thursday.

And BBC Sport understands City hope Malbranque may even sign before Saturday's friendly against Olympiakos.

Malbranque joined Fulham from Lyon for £5m in August 2001, and has been highly influential in Chris Coleman's side.

"We still retain a strong interest in the player," a City spokesman told the club's website.

Pearce still has some of the proceeds of Shaun Wright-Phillips' £21m sale to spend and is believed to be considering an improved bid for Malbranque.

Malbranque has scored 38 goals in his four seasons with Fulham, but is primarily a creative midfielder and City have lacked that type of player since the departure of Ali Benarbia.

He had previously been linked with interest from Aston Villa.

  3. No, not necessarily. They go by what the Press Association officially give it to. This kind of stuff usually happens with own goals. I once had Lampard to be first goal scorer and he scored with quite a big deflection. It was originally given to him, but then changed to being an own goal. :(

So I'm afraid that's just the way it works mate.

  4. Right now I'm reading the Bourne Supremacy by Robert Ludlum which is a great book. I know watching the movie would be easier, but I prefer a challenge.

Next book I'm going to read is Catcher In The Rye by J.D Salinger.

  5. I've always quite liked Bentley actually and after seeing him for England U21s I thought he could have a real future, and still can, but I feel that like Upson he will have to go to another team. With Wenger always buying other young foreigners I don't think he'll get a look in. I could see him playing somewhere like Birmingham, don't know why, but maybe because I put Bentley in the same bracket as Pennant, a promising player but not given the opportunity to shine.

While I'm at it I'll give my opinions on some of the other young players. I've been pretty unimpressed by Reyes. For the amount of money spent on him I just can't see what he's added to the side. Had a bright start to the season, but then I heard little about him.

Senderos looks like a competent enough defender, but his inexperience does cause him to make mistakes sometimes. Right now I'd say he's good enough cover for Campbell and Toure. Fabregas has a lot of potential and even though he is very young, he showed he can handle it in the Premiership although I wouldn't put him in the Vieira role yet. Van Persie I think is the pick of the bunch. I can definitely see him playing a bigger role in the team this year. He'll be a great replacement for Bergkamp. So far I've been really impressed by him.

  6. Liverpool forward Anthony Le Tallec has joined Sunderland on loan for a year.

The 20-year-old Frenchman has struggled to establish himself at Anfield since moving to the club in 2002.

"At Liverpool it is very difficult to play every week, the coach Rafael Benitez told me that," Le Tallec told the Sunderland website.

Liverpool have also loaned out defender Carl Medjani to French first division side Metz for the 2005/06 season.

Last season Medjani, captain of France's Under-21 team, was on loan with French club Lorient.

The defender signed for Liverpool from Saint Etienne in 2003.

This could mean Baros is staying - or there's the possibility we may move for Owen.

  7. What I want to know is how long does it take for the offside to be 'cancelled' so to speak. So if Van Nistelrooy is offside when the ball is played through, but doesn't touch it, but then 10 seconds later he taps in. Is he still considered to be offside from before?

I hope you understand what I mean.

I understand what you mean. And what your saying is the main problem with these new rules.

  9. Well, Skelton beats Krence (sp). It was a decent fight, and Krench kept going, but Skelton was in control there from moment one.

Maybe Khan has been hyped a little too much, and he may not have won the olympics, but a silver medal at his age was a great achievement, and he lost to the guy who's widely regarded as the best amateur fighter in years, who he since beat. Khan could be a very good fighter in his career, and I just hope he doesn't pull an 'Audley' with his career.

  10. I think Khan is good, but like all promising young sportsmen in Britain, overhyped. Don't know anything about his opponent, but people are saying that it should be a comfortable win for him.

Williams has had his 15 minutes of fame after beating Tyson and then having a shot at the world title. Ricky Hatton is the fucking man at the moment.

  11. Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has been confirmed as the Gunners' new captain.

Henry, 27, replaces his French international team-mate Patrick Vieira as skipper, after Vieira joined Juventus on Friday in a £13.75m deal.

Henry has been at Arsenal for six years after joining from Juve for £10.5m and is on the brink of breaking Ian Wright's goals record for the club.

He skippered the side for the first time in his official role in their 4-1 friendly victory against Barnet.

  12. Last night I was walking to the pub at about 9:30 and walked past Ottakars. There were already about 10 people there sitting in their little chairs. A couple were reading the fifth one for what I imagine probably the tenth time. Incredibly sad.

I myself have read the first few chapters of 3,4 and 5, but could never be bothered to read more. I'm not really into all that magical stuff.
