  1. That looks worse than the Ice Bowl already....

Under COVID, NASCAR ran some races by having drivers driving racing simulators (a few drivers ended up out due to their machines breaking), and even ran an old track or two that no longer exists. With the announcers calling the races just like they would a real one.

Sadly, I do not see the NFL doing something similar by just having the head coaches and/or coordinators play Madden against each other if the weather is bad.

  2. From the shows mentioned, I agree with Arrow, Falling Skies and Legends of Tomorrow. But, at the same time, I also agree with JasonM about the final season of Falling Skies. It was stupid.

Personally, I don't think DS9 really hit its stride until about halfway through season 2, but it went downhill quick once the Dominion War started. Of all the Star Trek shows, I think Voyager had the worst finale, though. Picard should have been the Borg's worst nightmare, not Janeway, and the ending makes the entire episode before that completely moot.

Theory from Reddit on Mrs Flood courtesy of thetruthseeker__ (quoted exactly)

      Hide contents

Flood is a misdirect because Mrs. Flood is clearly Iris Wildthyme. A character who before now only existed in audio dramas and novels. Below is the 'evidence' I have gathered.

    1. It is worth noting that RTD is known for drawing on books/audios/ and comics for his stories. We have seen that as recently as the Star Beast. It is therefore not a stretch to think that he would bring in another character from the "extended universe"

    2. Iris Wildthyme comes from the clockworks, the universe between universes. This adds to the timeless child storyline that RTD has demonstrated he wants to run with.

    3. Iris travels in a double decker red bus. While this isn't the one Ruby rode, there are plenty others seen in the last episode and even one in the previews.

    4. Iris has had several regenerations, each resembling a famous person. She even regenerated to Katy Manning, who voices her audio dramas. This explains why she looks like Anita Dobson.

    5. Several of her story lines involve memory loss and regaining said lost memories. Which explains why Mrs. Flood didn't recognize the Tardis at first, but knew what it was by the end of the episode.

    6. A version of Iris settled down in Camden, which is where the star beast takes place. Not to mention was the setting for the eighth doctor comic "the flood"

    7. Iris Wildthyme is a known lush, and what was Mrs. Flood waiting with at the end of the episode? A flask.

8.On that note she once fractured the multiverse by spilling a gin and tonic into the time vortex. And the doctor mentioned he was part of the Gin and Tonic division.

    9. Iris is also the Greek goddess Iris of the rainbiw, and if you look at the use of color in the episode it spans the entire spectrum of the rainbow, more so than I have seen in any other episode. For real though, the Christmas special was vibrantly colorful.

    10. She is LGBT and RTD loves his LGBT characters

    11. RTD mentioned wanting to set up a Doctor whoniverse like he did with torchwood and TSJA. Iris fits the slot of doctor who, but for an older audience.

    12. Donna's backstory was 'changed'. In the second special she mentioned she was born in Southampton because her Aunt Iris wouldn't come to them. This is a character never mentioned before which is strange because every other character referenced in the specials was also referenced in season 4. Doubly interesting when you consider the fact that Iris frequently refers to herself as "Auntie Iris."

Most damning of all. 13. Iris Wildthyme is a metafictional character, noted for breaking the fourth wall and talking to the audience. In the novels this frequently is accompanied by a wink as seen by Mrs. Flood.

And those are my '13 Reasons Why' Mrs. Flood is Iris Wildthyme

    Well...

    Spoiler

Night of the Doctor more or less made the Eighth Doctor books and audio canon because he did mention companions from those, so they could very easily have her pop up. But....

Having her show up and NOT be played by Katy would be very disappointing.

    I've heard theories that she's:

Amy and Rory's second child, meaning River Song's sister. (But fully human.)

    The Rani

Romana (Nope. Romana has too much of a stick up her ass, so I don't buy it.)

    Iris Wildthyme, like you mentioned.

Someone who worked for UNIT during the Third or Fourth Doctor era, but was never seen.

Susan, somehow returned to Earth. (Oh, please no!)

Oh, and some on Facebook think Ruby's mother is River Song, for some reason.

    I watched it as well.

She got upset because he continually called her African and said she's not just African. The show made it pretty clear what was happening and why she had a problem with it.

Ended up watching the next two episodes because Heidi wanted to, and after the conversation they had in episode 3, I know.

Have revised my opinion somewhat after watching those other episodes, and am editing my post to reflect that.

All my mom watches is Hallmark movies, to the point where I've visited and watched the same Hallmark movie twice in three days. So, I hate Hallmark movies lmao, but good on them for not being GAF.

The only reason I tolerate them is because they have some fairly attractive female actors *, plus several of both genders who are actually good. Before CCB showed her true colors, I was already annoyed because her acting is straight up cookie cutter. Danica McKellar also bolted for GAF, by the way. Lacey Charbet signed a new contract with Hallmark in October, but I don't know how long it is for.

*Taylor Cole, Pascale Hutton, Hunter King, Lacey Charbet, Bethany Joy Lenz, and Rachel Leigh Cook, especially.

Merritt Patterson, who was on that list, apparently went to GAF a few years ago. :(

  6. Netflix has a new reality show called Trust: The Game Of Greed. The description calls it a cross between Big Brother and Traitors, and the trailer looked good, so I watched the four episodes that are out.

Its a....*maybe*, but I should post a warning:

A review I read called it `A Budget Bootleg of Traitors', and I somewhat agree. The problem is that most of the women are fucking annoying and whiny in the first two episodes, so don't judge it by those two episodes alone. Three are oversensitive and get easily offended and two of those three also come off as straight up bitches (and one of the two is also paranoid) in those episodes.. But it gets somewhat better in episode 3.

    Spoiler

One of the male contestants is a privileged 22 year old millionaire who works in real estate. He comes off somewhat likeable in the first three episodes, but really shouldn't have been there in the first place. Shows he's privileged ass in episode 4. Can't wait for him to go bye-bye.

One of the other women is clearly a golddigger, but it was understandable why when she explained her background.

I'm not sure I'm going to watch the rest. 4 episodes are out, 3 more come out next week, then the finale comes out a week or so later.

If you choose to watch it, wait until next Wednesday when 5-7 are out. Because 4 ended on a heck of a cliffhanger.

I just watched the most tonally confusing movie I've ever seen -- A Little Piece of Heaven. It's a made-for-tv movie from 1991 starring Kirk Cameron, a young man with a heart of gold who wants to make a real difference in the world. And how does he do that? By kidnapping ~10 year-old Jussie Smollett and ~5 year-old Lacey Chabert to keep his developmentally-disabled sister company (and also kinda for cheap farm labor), of course!

Smollett is kidnapped when Kirk Cameron stuffs a brownie with sedatives and sticks the brownie in a random bed at an orphanage. When Smollett wakes up on Kirk Cameron's pig farm, he's confused, but don't worry Kirk Cameron is there to comfort him. Kirk tells Jussie that he died, this is Heaven, you can never ever leave, also you've gotta stop speaking AAVE. Smollett is skeptical though, so the next time Kirk Cameron kidnaps a child (his sister wasn't happy with the first; she wanted a girl!) he dons an angel costume before he goes to Lacey Chabert's house. He says that he's her guardian angel, that she died of a stroke, and she has to come with him to the "Heaven."

With that in mind, here's the trailer:

It's a horror movie that thinks it's airing on Hallmark. It's also suuuuuper religious, to the point that the version I watched was ripped from a re-release of the movie distributed by an arm of the Mormon church. And it...kinda slaps??? The score was nominated for an Emmy, the acting is so much better than I expected going into this, fucking Cloris Leachman is in it! But it's absolutely awful for so many, many reasons. But also I love it.

If Kirk Cameron is in it, its pretty much a guarantee its going to be super religious, and possibly shit. He doesn't work in mainstream Hollywood anymore because he's one of those annoying, obnoxious types who think they're better than everyone else because they're religious, and I've not watched much he's done since a movie or two a few years after the show Growing Pains. That movie wasn't one of them. (GP ended in `92)

Sadly, his sister Candace Cameron Bure has shown her true colors with some comments she made about `traditional values and relationships' when she left Hallmark for Great American Family. (Hallmark has done movies with gay and lesbian characters, with Jonathan Bennett doing some pretty good ones.) Hallmark pretty much responded to her leaving by rebooting her Aurora Teagarden movie series to when the character was younger with a new cast AND giving her Full and Fuller House co-star Jodi Sweetin more roles and her own franchise. (Jodi is a better actress, so BONUS!)

Hallmark movies are formulaic: Couple gets together, around the last 45 minutes to half hour there's some confusion, lie (by somene else) or misunderstanding that appears to break them up, and they're back together within the last 10, kissing at the end more often than not. But a lot of them are still entertaining, and even the ones with religious overtones aren't overly preachy. (Heidi is a Hallmark movie addict, but I don't mind if certain actors are in them. Especially Lacey Charbet, Taylor Cole, or Tyler Hines. But Taylor Cole hasn't been in many lately. Hate the Christmas in July movies, though.)

  8. Had a good laugh in Facebook last night:

In one of the SEC fan groups, someone did a tiered ranking of the teams next season, and I realized it was an Oklahoma fan right away, because they had the Sooners ranked on tier one as a contender, and had Texas at the bottom. I've got both as mid-tier, but with Texas possibly a threat.

Okay it would be kind of hilarious if Ryan Day went to Bama and immediately started winning championships.

Day winning enough games to make the playoffs coaching an SEC team would require an investigation into whether college football is rigged or not.....

  10. I'd ask someone to go watch Neon Demon and see if they can figure out the plot, but there's not really anyone here I dislike or hate to wish that waste of film on. Keanu Reeves must have done someone a favor or been blackmailed into it. Worst move I've ever seen, hands down.

Not a single comment all season. How times have changed.

I thought it was a pretty good season all told, some very fun bakers. Saku obviously the best, may she gets invited back for specials often. Alison was enjoyable as the new host, etc. Glad they realized the ethnic weeks were pretty tacky. There was only one truly terrible technical and it wasn't down to a lack of skill, it was down to them giving everyone 15 less minutes than they should've.

I was realizing in the semifinals that Matty was taking every bit of feedback whereas Josh and Dan were basically stagnant - they came in as good as they finished. And I went "hmm I seem to recall Paul & Prue love it when a baker listens to them". Matty looked like a guy who was going out in week 5 or week 6 at the start, hung on, and then the last few weeks survived because other bakers bottled it (poor Tasha).

And then he evidently had a near perfect final showstopper. Still surprised it wasn't Josh, who was better start-to-finish than anyone but they love editing this show in a way where they can sneak in the surprise winners from time to time.

Congrats to Matty and his classical Greek sculpture physique.

I didn't have time to watch it until the last couple of days.

Mostly agree with your comments. Wish Tasha hadn't blown her last showstopper, though. I was hoping she'd make the finals.

  12. You also have QBs who throw to one particular player way more than the others, or who forget their TEs exist.

I was doing Fantasy on Yahoo, with 5 teams. I never slotted a TE into the RB/WR/TE slot, and if I had, it would have been due to injury or a bye week with no other alternative due to crappy choices left for replacement.

The major problem this year was that the latter half of the tier 2 running backs were just the hottest of garbage and very few new guys stepped emerged in their place.

I had a couple of decent RBs and a few WRs who ended up either on the IRL, Out for a game, or outright done for the season. One of my TEs also ended up done, and there was not got a good selection of replacements.

Worst string of injuries I ever had in Fantasy was in Baseball, though. Once had 3 consecutive Third Basemen (One I started with, then two I acquired) go down to injuries, and 2 were season enders.

Weren't they disqualified from working any playoff games as a punishment?

    Apparently not.

Personally, I am hoping that its not a fuck up, and the reason they were assigned is because the head of officiating will be watching and will call down and reverse the call then fire them after the game if they screw up.

But its probably just an oversight or fuck up.

  15. Instead of being punished, the officiating crew who botched the Lions-Cowboys game are going to be working the Steelers-Ravens game.

And the eligible receiver call was not their only fuck up; they called a tripping penalty against Dallas that should have been called against the Lions.

Oh boy we're gonna take the beloved children's character and make it evil!

    How original.

There's a Blood and Honey sequel coming, and the director or producer said they plan on making a cinematic universe out of characters turned twisted. So we'll likely get Peter Pan as a pedo serial killer and Robin Hood as a home invader at some point, sadly.

(I haven't watched Blood and Honey or The Mean One, and won't be watching any of this shit!)

There is a droid that gets gifted a crown of sunflowers about 10 minutes into the movie because he is busy telling the most inconsistent story that goes against the opening monologue that Anthony Hopkins gives (the droid is also voiced by him).

The droid also disappears until the end of the movie, and inexplicably has antlers when he pops up again.

Also, the actor playing the bad guy admiral was on Game of Thrones as Daario Neharis in season 3 and was replaced in the role in season 4 by the actor who plays the farmer. The character went from long hair and clean shaven to shoulder length hair and a beard when they changed actors.

Part II is coming in April (the day after my birthday). There's apparently a rated-R directors' cut coming out at some point, along with a comic prequel mini-series that takes place 5 years earlier.

Almost TPK'd my party tonight! They shot a gnome mindflayer baby, so the two adult mindflayers went for a murder. The PCs were all stunned at one point. Two people had their brains eaten.

If they attacked a baby mindflayer with more than one adult around, it sounds like they didn't have any brains to begin with.....

Seriously, though, that means 2 of them are perma-dead.

  18. I had Wilson on a different team, but I was wrecked by injuries a lot this season on my teams. I had one team go 3-11, and it was mainly because I had injuries (about half done for the season, or might as well be) more often than not, and the replacement WRs and RBs available (I had James Cook when he went on the IR) were fairly shitty by week 11. I also had Anthony Richardson on that team at the start of the season.

Purdy only could because he has the stats. But, it's clear as day to anybody that watches and not just looks at stats, that Lamar is the sole reason Baltimore is as good as they are. Without him, they're middle of the league, if that.

Before the preseason even started, a lot of people on Facebook (including the group I quit because of too many anti-Cowboys assholes) discussing football were laughing at Lamar, calling him a has-been. Well, of the five fantasy teams I have, I tried to get him on four. The one I did get him on was one of the two teams I did live drafts on, and the four teams I didn't, the people who had him mainly used him as a backup. He's been my starter on that team every week except two: their bye week and their game against the Bengals. Wish I had benched him for the Steelers game.

(When I said anti-Cowboys assholes, I mean the type of jerks who blast you just for being a fan, and have nothing nice to say about you or the team at all. ie, making excuses if their team loses to them.)

  20. Watching Squid Game: The Challenge. Currently near the end of Episode 3: War.

    Spoiler

Love how they thought it was going to be Tug of War, but ended up being Battleship. 2 of my favorite players got eliminated, though. (Bryton and Figgy.) TJ may be too positive, but he was a beast as a Captain.
