I don't follow Critical Role, but my partner and I were talking about that. It genuinely wouldn't surprise me if there is no season 3, or if someone else takes over, given how toxic their community can sometimes be. I actively chose not to engage with their content, and the community that exists around them online is a huge part of the reason why.

While pretty much any class is busted in 5e since it doesn't take much for anything to be effective, Clerics are especially busted. They can be super effective tanks, damage dealers, battlefield controllers, they can even be a great healer even though in combat healing is kinda shit in 5e. Clerics are maybe the best class if you're not sure what you want your character to do, but like the idea of being able to do a little bit of everything pretty well. So it doesn't surprise me that a party consisting of at least 3 of the squishier classes hide behind their cleric.

I'm trying something new today for my gaming stream. The girlfriend is joining me for some Stardew Valley. Streams starting now, because I'm the best at remembering to promote things ahead of time, but if you're interested in seeing two people who have a physical compulsion to be smartasses to each other try and coexist on stream without swearing too much, then we'd be happy to see you!

So I've been thinking recently about using Fiverr or sites like it to make a little money designing monsters, characters, and encounters for people looking to get into the hobby. As a result of that, I've just spent 2 hours working on an official looking PDF for a homebrew Chocobo from Final Fantasy. I'm basically computer illiterate, so trying to learn how to use some of the software for this was hard, but overall I'm having a ton of fun with it. I might start making more fully drawn out lore sheets just for fun

My partner has been talking about running Shadowrun for years now, and I'm beginning to believe it's never gonna happen

I would 100% be on board for something like this. I'm already running a game on Twitch, so I have a little experience handling a Discord for stuff like this, although it's only one group, to be fair.

So I had meant to post about this a week ago when I announced it, but I figured better late than never: If you're interested in watching Dungeons and Dragons played at a high level while it's being DM'd at a very mediocre level, then next week on April 25th at 3 pm PST, you'll want to tune into twitch.tv/groveofcypress. A couple of people from the board will be playing along with a few friends of mine, and I'll be DMing a campaign arc entitled The Tower Falls about the last(?) mission of a world famous mercenary company

I've never played in a West Marches campaign, but my understanding is that it's a campaign driven by the players as opposed to the DM. Matt Colville has a video on it that makes it sound super interesting, and I've wanted to five it a try for a while. Basically the idea is that the DM lays out the immediate area and some available places to explore/quests to fulfill, and the players get together into groups and decide which one they're going after. So instead of the DM prepping an adventure, they prep quest hooks and then only prep the actual quests that the players decide to follow

All that happened in 3 sessions? You have more patience than I do. I'm so thankful I've never had to deal with a DM like that

So I have a weird question: Is anyone available/interested in playing a Dungeon crawling one shot in D&D 5e on March 17th around 12 pm PST? I've recently started trying to run games professionally and I have my first client, but he's the only one that's signed up for a one shot that's intended for 4 players. I would really rather not have to run 3 NPC's for my first paid game, and I thought maybe some of you guys would be interested in playing. If you are, shoot me a message, and I can send you the session link so you can get the info. It's being run through startplaying.games and all the info is on there, but if you sign up through the site, it's a $10 charge. I'm willing to shoot you the discord call link for free just so I can run the game, so don't sign up through the site unless you wanna pay me money to run D&D for you.

It's a pretty good stream, honestly. They've been on hiatus for a little bit because they've been working on a kickstarter, but I think there's like 25 episodes? It's about a Mercenary company carrying out it's last contract

@Ruki Returns Have you watched MCDM's The Chain livestream?
-
That sounds awful. Is this guy a completely new DM?

Oh definitely. I don't think I would ever play a game that doesn't sound fun to me. I just have the current issue of only really playing a few games. So I more meant what kind of games are people playing that are fun and might be streaming friendly. I mean, I could always just play through Final Fantasy X for the 6 millionth time, but I'm interested in trying out new games, and I figured people in here would have a bunch of great options. I'm also trying to get friends that I have that already stream involved as much as possible, since playing with friends is often the best way to play, but I don't know many multiplayer games

So I'm gonna be having my first Twitch stream this Sunday, hopefully making it a weekly thing. Are there any games you guys think would be really entertaining to see someone who's pretty bad at video games play? I've got a few ideas in mind, but I'm mostly just looking for fun games to dick around in, I'm not trying to be the best gamer on Twitch or anything like that

I think that's probably how I would rule it. In my setting, Mind Flayers and anything tied to them are pretty explicitly aliens who use psionics instead of magic, so I'd just rule it as them not understanding even the basics of most magic, so they might know what the password is, but not necessarily how it's used. It's kinda interesting to think about edge cases like this and how different people would rule it
-
I think that's a pretty interesting idea. I'd probably rule in favor of the party, just because I think it's an interesting use of the spell, but RAW, I think the ID could pass through the lock. At the very least, it would know the password set during the spell to suppress the effects, so it could get through that way. But I also tend to throw RAW out the window as soon as it interferes with the fun of the game, unless it's a brand new table or the players have explicitly stated they want to play RAW.

Thanks for the advice. I've put a little bit of money into stuff that would be helpful for streaming, but it's all stuff that I wanted for other stuff, anyway. The talking to no one part is definitely gonna be the hardest for me, but I'm pretty excited about getting started overall. I was thinking that I might stream Dungeons and Dragons prep, since I'm gonna be running my first professional game starting next month(hopefully), and then go into some gameplay after that, but I don't know how interesting people would find something like that

Re: Twitch, I'm actually gonna be starting to stream at the end of this month. Anybody got tips for someone who has basically no idea what they're doing?
