  1. If I haven't played a FIFA game since 13 and I'm only really interested in career mode because I know exactly nothing about this sport other than "kick the ball in the other side's net," is this worth picking up?

Personally i've learned to just wait for the entire season to be finished before picking the game up. As much as I want to play them when they come out, It's infuriating to wait 3-4 months for a new episode to get released and you lose half the plot.

By the time the whole season is available there is usually a decent Steam sale, too.

I think that's fair for the most part - it would help to alleviate some of the DLC cost at the same time if you do end up enjoying it.

I also don't have time for online multiplayer until probably summer, and it seems like that's what the game is mostly for since there is no campaign(seriously how the fuck is there no campaign) or galactic conquest type mode.

I think Open Worlds are great for those who have time to play video games like that. I think part of the reason I'm not so fond of them is that I don't have the time to really sit and play and appreciate how awesome it really is. I feel like I'm turning into that adult that merely plays sports games or something.

It's like we're the same person.

Wut. Half the map on Fallout 3 is linear. Once you cross into the city, there's only one way to get to places.

In my experience, I have not much enjoyed "open world" games because I like to be told a story. I get my game enjoyment from how the story is told to me. When I play a game like...heck, even Call of Duty...I enjoy being told "You are *character*, then investing myself in that character, taken from place to place and be told my story. I don't care much for open world games that don't "end" when the main story finishes (At least Fallout 3 and NV did that).

The biggest problem I have playing open worldish games like Fallout is that it's great having the freedom to dally and do side quests at my leisure as I go through the main storyline, but I never know when to then get on with the main story. Also because I can go anywhere, I can stumble upon higher-level areas before I'm "meant to". Usually when I play through these games I struggle to do anything other than "roleplay myself". I guess I've just lost my childhood imagination. :( I'm starting to enjoy games like Fallout more, but these are still quasi-open-world compared to stuff like GTA - at least IMO.

I never got to the city.  I did a ton of side questy stuff and got bored with it because it felt like most of the game I was just running somewhere.

  6. Man, the Spike Lee story in this game is hilariously bad. What a horrible story to have to sit through

The most hilariously bad thing about it... If you take a white guy as your player, the family will still be black and they'll still act as if he and his sis are twins. So that either means their mom was into some weird stuff, your character has vitiligo, or he's the most clueless adopted kid ever.

Its a Spike Lee story. It was never going to account for that fact that there might be people choosing white characters. Or he did account for it and didn't give a shit.

I got half way through the story and gave up. It's awful. It's a poorly constructed narrative and completely rushed.

Damn.  MyCareer is my favorite mode.  I guess I'll skip this year.
