My personal favorite part of the movies is "we'll settle this the old Navy way, first one to die, LOSES!"
-
I watched both Hot Shots movies for the first time in forever over the weekend (so basically I remembered nothing). I miss when spoofs were really good.

I honestly dont understand how either of those diseases work and it seems like they were turning this into kind of a spectacle but if these guys knew what they were doing and it wasnt more dangerous than usual for them to fight I dont see why it got stopped
It was probably stopped simply because some overly sensative person who has no involvement at all complained and basically forced their hand. Wouldn't be the first time I've heard of that happening.

I voted for Carl, because I would be happy to see him not exist.

I just came to to this realization. Jorah Mormont was banished by Eddard Stark. Jeor passed the Mormont family sword Longclaw to his protege, Jon Snow. Jon Snow and Dany are going to end up meeting at some point, and I don't think Jorah is going to take to kindly to Jon.
-
That episode was meant to build into the next season with pretty much everyone on a new path. My favorite part was the Hound saying "If you are going to do that again, tell me first". He wasn't the least bit upset or angry, he just wants a warning is all.
-
So who does everyone hope actually wins this war? I'm pulling for Victarion Greyjoy myself.
-
Makes sense, though I think he's just a tertiary character who got a Crowning Moment Of Badass in the first book more than anything. I would love to see him come back though, and it be revealed that he was subtlety guiding Arya towards joining the Faceless Men the whole time.
What about Coldhands? Do you think we'll ever know who he was? Tons of theories surrounding his identity, including that he's actually Benjen, but Leaf says that he was killed "long ago", and Benjen only went missing in recent years.
I wouldn't eat any pies that Wyman Manderly served me.
I really do not think Coldhands in Benjen, because either he or Bran would probably recognize each other, and I'm sure he would recognize Hodor. Benjen gets mentioned so much that I feel he has a part to play eventually, otherwise he really has no point of being in the books or tv show.
Also, I am eagerly awaiting the debut of Howland Reed. The only man to survive the Tower of Joy and he was sent something from Robb Stark before the Red Wedding, so he has some huge part to play.

Well since this is a book thread, I figure we can talk about some of the more interesting parts of the story not in the show. Such as Jon Snow's mother, what happened to Syrio, Benjen, how awesome Wyman Manderly is, and so on.
I loved Syrio a little more than I probably should have and I hope he makes a come back. I believe he is actually Meryn Trant. Syrio took out like 6 guys no issue with a wooden sword, its not hard to believe he could take out Trant as well. His death is never really confirmed and I don't think he could get away and make it to the dungeon to get picked up by Yoren. He is very likely a faceless man so I believe he killed Trant and took his face to assume his position, but for what, I have no idea.
Plus he is the only Kingsguard that really doesn't no anything. Selmy gets kicked out and joins Dany, Jaime is Jaime, Moore tries to kill Tyrion, Greenfield is killed by the mob, Oakheart dies in Dorne. Blount doens't do much but he seems to have a bigger role that Moore. A lot of this is just hoping we see Syrio back though.

Life can be a bastard, I think it's pretty fitting and realistic for all these people we love to die.
If Bronn dies though, I am going GRRM hunting.

Ruki I think you need a hug. Go get a hug from someone.
Seriously, my soul hurts.
Two characters I enjoyed (was coming around to Robb this season) and now....poof.
Gone. Jesus...I guess the War of The North is doneMEGA FUTURE SPOILER following on from Ruki's spoiler
Not necessarily...
Notice who was sitting next to the Blackfish at the Wedding?
Wendel Manderly.....

While I get that everyone is going to focus on the ending, I think one great part is going to get looked over.
Daaria, Jorah and Grey Worm being total badasses and giving us the best fight scene in the show so far. Jorah's distrust of Daario completely disappearing as the fight went on was pretty awesome. Then Dany being all worried, and Ser Barristan being completely calm until the bloody trio come walking into the tent.

It is Thoros' weapon, but I think that he did use the fire sword in the book, because it snapped in half right? I think so anyways.
Short Answer, Thoros does set Beric's sword on fire in the book as well.
Longer Answer: Thoros lost his faith in being a Red Priest when he could not convert Aerys II. He stuck around Westeros though and became friends with Robert. He would enter Melee's and use wildfire on his swords to scare his opponents horses. Three times he defeated Sandor Clegane this way. Gendry doesn't like Thoros at first because he destroyed many swords his master worked hard to build with his fire. He lost a Melee once simply because a common mace smashed his sword after the wildfire weakened it.
When Beric was killed by Gregor Clegane, Thoros began to get his faith back and breath life back into him, see things in the flames, etc. He was also able to create fire from blood and set Lord Beric's sword on fire without the aid of wildfire. However, the fire damaged the sword enough that Sandor was able to cleave it in two, as well as nearly cleaving Lord Beric in two as well.
Bonus fact: At the Tournament of the Hand for Eddard, Sandor Clegane won the joust. Thoros won the Melee. Anguy (the archer with Thoros) won the archery competition. Thoros also defeated Lord Beric in the joust. The money Sandor won in the tournament was stolen by the brotherhood, and it is what he wanted back from them.
Lately I've been really tempted to go through the entire show again and do write ups to provide extra information from the books to people who only watch the show in a non-spoiler way. I know a lot of people just watch the show, and while it is extremely loyal to the books, and when it isn't it goes back in a round about way that is usually easier for tv, a lot of the background information just cannot be there.

Yes, it was his sword hand. And I'm very sure that he is Vargo Hoat just altered slightly (no lisp and him actually cutting off Jamie's hand instead of instructing someone else to do it).Holy shit. What a great fake out at the end. After teasing something bad happening to him, I totally didn't expect them to actually DO anything to Jamie. And then... fuck!
I take it that's his sword hand?
What makes it even better is after e threw Bran from the tower he said he would rather die than live as a cripple. Another foreshadow (minor spoiler)...
He made a comment to Brienne before their fight about how a mute would be better company than her. Of course later, he finds his only friend to be Ser Illyn Payne, who is a mute. (the dude who cut off Eddards head).
-
The Blackfish and Vargo Hoat finally arrive!
Jamie is a really odd character because I know I shouldn't like him, but it gets harder and harder to not like him.
-
Considering the throne is supposed to be made of swords...at least from a story-perspective, having sex on it would probably be quite painful.
Its common for the King to get cut by the throne a lot, and it is described as being extremely uncomfortable. Of course I doubt a replica would be sharp enough to cut a person.

Just watched last nights episode. I had completely forgotten how awesome the Queen of Thorns is. Also, I want Jeor Mormont to be my grandfather.
-
My point is its a show about zombies, stop worrying about little details that don't effect the plot of the show.
If it was a cop or spy show, something like silencer mechanics might matter. In the Walking Dead it really doesn't.
-
This arguement is obviously going to go nowhere. Every piece of fiction in the creation of ever has things that aren't totally 100% believable/accurate to real life, you just need to learn to not care about the little things that have no real impact on anything.
For example, Rick shoots his 6 shooter 8 times without reloading.... Who cares.
Rick shows us he only has 2 bullets left then shoots 3 times... Problem.
-
Well obviously that is different than grass length and the mechanics of a improvised silencer...
-
Are people really arguing about suppressors in a show about zombies? In a show where everyone gets head shots from any distance? I really don't think it matters, or the grass length for that matter. Its a tv show.
However I still have a problem with Rick and Glen masking themselves as Zombies in season 1 but in season 2 they can just hide under cars since it goes against the rules they set for themselves.

From what I read he isn't even cast for this season, so it's unlikely he will show up. To bring him in later wouldn't make much sense either...
Book spoiler
since his whole purpose is that nobody takes him seriously until his duel with the knight. His role is Selmy/Danys bodyguard and comic relief for her story, so they are probably going to skip him all together.
I'm mostly just upset because through the course of the books I really liked a lot of the minor characters and want I see them on the show, since most of the time the actors make them even more enjoyable (Syrio, Jeor Mormont, Bronn, Varys, Jorah, Sallador Saan).
But seriously, top 3 characters are Bronn, Tyrion and Varys and I'm glad they spend so much one on screen together. The "threats" between Tyrion and Varys last season were wonderful.
