Ballers S1 was the most hit-and-miss show that I kept up with for whatever reason. The most frustrating thing was that they'd present stakes for Ricky or Charles, only to wrap it up neatly with a bow on top by the end of the episode or by mid-episode the next. It was really puzzling, but it seemed like the focus was a lot more on "LOOK HOW CRAZY ATHLETES LIVE" rather than any sort of dramatic stakes.

And yet I'm still going to tune in for S2 next month. The Rock, John David Washington & Rob Corddry kill it pretty regularly.

That's what Entourage was.  They'd be great at the beginning of the season, Vinny would say "It's gonna be a great year," they would have struggles mid-season, Turtle and Drama would do wacky shit and by the end a "Dues ex machina" role would fall into Vinny's lap and everything would be great. These shows aren't meant to have real stakes and instead just show how awesome celebrity life is.

They could go that way. Honestly, I have absolutely no clue what a season six looks like, and that would have been a really great series finale. But they've earned my goodwill with this season 5, so.

All of Season 5 was so good, but that finale was just too depressing, even for VEEP standards. Plus, the political nerd in me was just pissed off the entire time about the way they handled the election, being that it has no bearing to what would actually happen. But JLD was on fire

    "I really I hope I didn't fuck Richard."

In other shows, just started Season 2 of Deadwood. I guess poor Anna Gunn was just born to be the wet blanket wife.

Bit of a step up from his role in the original series. I think this Cranston kid might be going places.

    Giant floating head Bryan Cranston

    Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa

    You have my attention

  5. Just started watching Deadwood...thoughts on the big event that happened in Episode 4

    Spoiler

OH NOES!!!  Not Wild Bill Solverson Lundy!!!  I know nothing about the purported history of the Deadwood camp and thought Seth and Bill would battle Al & Cy for seasons to come. Damn Hooplehead.

  6. Spoiler

Maybe it's just me but I think Spidey just stuck like a sore thumb. I never read any of the comics so I don't how he fit in but with the tone that the MCU has set, he just didn't feel like he belonged or like he was necessary. How does Tony Stark A) Know about Spider Man? B) Know he's Peter Parker?  I feel like his introduction could have been handled better than the standard "One superhero knows about the other superhero and plucks him out of obscurity and into battle" cliche that we have seen as recently as Days of Future Past.

Isn't Vision just supposed to be completely AI? Now he's falling in love with Wanda?

Other than that, it was a really good movie. The big ass Avengers fight in the middle of the movie was awesome and the movie did a great job of making both Tony and Cap, right and wrong at the same time.

The Supreme Court gets like 10,000 appeals every year and agree to hear like 120. If Patriot fans really think they'd have a shot in hell, then they're even more delusional then you've made them out to be.

They might hear the case just based on the arbitration/CBA implications. Also, still possible the entire 2nd Circuit may hear the case and suspend the suspension temporarily

I still need to see Ant-Man. I started to watch it while voting for this was going on, but never finished it. I can barely even say I started it since I got like four minutes in before I got pulled away and just.. never resumed watching.

Literally the only part of Ant Man you need to see is the after credits scene...and Ant Man isn't even in that

  9. It's the old wrestling bit of "I NEVER SIGNED THE CONTRACT!!!!"

Next up, a Ronda Rousey heel turn due to her new "Iron clad, no-cut contract."

    From Meltzer:

Dana White denied today that money had anything to do with the situation with Conor McGregor and UFC 200, but also admitted that the McGregor vs. Nate Diaz fight could still be saved and said he believed McGregor would fight for the UFC again within the next year.

White appeared this afternoon on the Colin Cowherd show on FS 1 and said, "It's not a money issue.  That's false.  That's the problem with the Internet.  Never ever was this about money.  Conor makes a lot of money and he's very happy with the money he makes."

He said McGregor has never come back after agreeing to a deal and looked for more money.

White claimed the entire issue is that McGregor refused to come to Las Vegas this weekend for promotional purposes.  White said they were going to shoot the television commercial and have press conferences in three cities, starting in Las Vegas, and then he'd be able to return to Iceland and train for the fight, noting it's not like they were asking him three weeks before the fight to break camp.

White claimed that in a conversation with McGregor's manager, he was asked to move this to May and White said that they were spending $10 million promoting the show and the money is in motion.

"It never got combative," said White.  "I was talking to his manager. They were asking, `Let's move all this to May.'  You can't move it.  This stuff is in motion."

"I'm not mad, even a little bit," said White to Cowherd, who said that White didn't appear to be mad yesterday when they were together.  "You were with me yesterday, did I seem mad?  It's UFC 200.  It's a massive fight.  Believe me, when Conor went out, ten other people called asking to come in."

"Obviously Conor made a decision and made a choice to not want to fight on this card. And that's how he gets paid.  That's on him.  The show will go on."

White said that McGregor does have to clear up the retirement talk, noting that if McGregor says he's retired, then the UFC 200 fight with Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar would be for the featherweight title and not, as it stands right now, the interim title.

  10. The way Eisenberg play Luthor started out pretty believable for trying to translate a comic book villain into any semblance of reality, but as the movie went on, he just got goofier and goofier. I'm honestly surprised Christopher Nolan let his name be put on this, even if it's just a do nothing credit.

An episode of the Simpsons broadcast in May is set to feature a short live section.

The three-minute segment will feature Homer Simpson taking questions from fans.

The scene, made possible by motion capture technology, will make up the final part of a full-length episode broadcast on 15 May.

Producer Al Jean said: "As far as I know, this is the first time it's been done by any animated show."

Jean said Homer's voice - provided by Dan Castellaneta - and motions will be depicted in an animated scene talking about things he "could only be saying live on that day".

His comments suggest Homer will make reference to news events from that day to prove the segment is not pre-recorded.

The live section will work with the theme of the wider episode - which explores improvised comedy.

Jean described Castellaneta - who has voiced Homer since the show began - as a "great improviser".

Fans have been encouraged to think of questions for Homer, which they can then submit via Twitter the week before the broadcast.

The news about the episode comes at a time when broadcast networks are struggling to find ways to retain live audiences.

Fewer TV fans now watch shows in their allotted timeslot, opting instead for catch-up or on demand services such as Netflix or BBC iPlayer.

It's hoped live episodes will prompt viewers to watch programmes in real time - following the lead of Grease Live which was a ratings success for the Fox network.

A potential boost in viewing figures for The Simpsons would come at a crucial time when network bosses are making decisions about advertisements and schedules for the following year.

The Simpsons was first broadcast in 1989 and has since become the longest-running animated programme in American history.

I think it's in large part because I was only like 9 when it happened, but I never realized until watching American Crime Story that the car chase was such a huge spectacle. Also, does Ryan Murphy have his fingers in every anthology series on TV now or what?

I swear I'm the only person that has no memory of it that actually remembers everything else. We were moving and I think we didn't have the TV set up yet. This week's episode was a bit of a drop off. They had to spend too much time introducing the "Dream Team" and the cold open with the Kardashian children felt really forced.
