  1. Totally agree. Although I'm having doubts that Winslow wouldn't like her punishment :-D. After what I saw saturday, she must be some kind of SM queen... Fedor losing was... wow. First, my reaction was: ok, that's the end for Strikeforce. However... after rethinking, it could be a very good thing. The only thing they shouldn't do now is have an immediate rematch. Let's face it... before saturday, Strikeforce heavyweight division had one fight left: Overeem Vs Fedor. Now, that's not possible anymore (although with Strikeforce you never know). They could go for Fedor vs Werdum II, but... now they have another exciting match in the return of Fedor. Give him Antonio Silva and that would be a main-event worthy fight. Follow the rules of any normal sport and put on Overeem Vs Werdum (as planned... they only said it like 5 times on the show, so they shouldn't change their minds now that Werdum won anyway). Overeem vs Werdum would be a classic striker vs grappler match. They can bill Overeem as the champ, Werdum as the Fedor-killer. Next, if Fedor defeats Silva, you have either finally Overeem vs Fedor, or the rematch Werdum-Fedorn both 'dream' matchups. That means your heavyweight division will be exciting for at least the next year. Seems to me that's better then having a quick cash on an immediate rematch...
  2. Damn... Dan Miragliotta has some great wrestling.
  3. With Strikeforce Nashville coming up this weekend, I rechecked the card. Three title fights obviously is huge. However, what are they going to do if all three fights finish soon? I can't see Mousasi vs Lawal last 5 rounds, Aoki and Melendez has a lot of chance on an early submission or KO too... and Henderson can knock Shields out like he did Bisping. The only two matches on the undercard that are of somewhat interest are the one of Jason Mayhem Miller (vs Tim Stout) and Josh Shockman vs Cale Yarbrough. I think SF is taking a bit of a risk here...
  4. Hmm... wouldn't that make things a lot more difficult for the matchmaker? Imagine that you are someone like euhm... (just gonna choose a name) Alessio Sakara. You get the proposal to fight Rousimar Palhares. Proposed UFC card features Marquardt vs Sonnen as the main event (the champs are used on other cards or something). You know the next cards are Carwin Vs Lesnar and St-Pierre Vs Shields (who defeated Henderson, while we're busy taking a fantasy trip anyway). Why would I (being Sakara) want to fight on the Marquardt vs Sonnen-card... I'll just invent some kind of reason why I can't make it that fast, and fight on the Carwin Vs Lesnar-card... and get a much bigger bonus then the one I'd get of Marquardt Vs Sonnen... no? I think cards with a relative 'weak' main-event would be very difficult to fill. Resulting in lesser interesting fights on the card. Resulting in an even worse card...
  5. I want to add something to the discussion... I was a Maia-fan before the fight and obviously I'm a bigger one now. However, I think people don't give him enough credit. Everyone acts like: wow... Silva could have finished him any time he wanted. Well, facts are he didn't. Could he? Probably... but he would have to take a little more risk. It's pretty obvious that Silva is waaaay better then Maia on the feet. However, Silva didn't take any advantage of this (and even declared (falsely?) that he was a little surprised by Maia's standup game). The real threat to Silva was the jiu jitsu of Maia. He never was able to use this. For me, there are two reasons for this: 1. Silva showed excellent takedown defense. 2. Silva didn't take any risk. I'm not sure if Maia would have been able to take him down, but if Silva had engaged more the chance of a takedown would have risen quiet a lot. By doing his stupid run-away-stuff, not only did Silva ruin the chance of finishing Maia, imo he also ruined the chances on a takedown and following submission of Maia. I also believe that he was toying with Maia for the first two round. But after that, I have serious doubts that he actually could do any better... Maia was slowly gaining the upper hand, even standing up. I think Silva was just tired, not bored. If there was a round 6... who knows what could've happened. It's very easy to run away from an opponent and then claim you could've beaten him any time you wanted. It would've been better proof if he had just done it. And his taunting of Maia was moronic. Imagine Demian Maia just laying down and taunting Silva for not entering his guard... That's about the same Silva did with his standup. It was clear he was the better man standing up, so he should be the agressor there. If the fight went to the ground, he could switch to defense. And then tap... :-)
  6. I liked UFC 110, nice to see Sotiropoulos and Velasquez defeating the old guard. With those two impressive victories and the controversy surrounding the Bisping-Silva decision and the Bonnar-Soszynski headbutt..., it's easy to forget the first two matches but hey.. Ryan Bader really impressed me. He dominated Jardine and then took him out in brutal fashion. I really want to see him facing someone big next, like Couture or the winner of Vera-Jones (read: Jones).
  7. If Maia fights like he did in his match with Sonnen, he has a reasonable chance to submit Anderson. The wrestling Sonnen showed against Marquardt was very very good... and Maia actually dominated Sonnen not only in the bjj but also in wrestling. (just check his takedown and following submission)... The Leites-Anderson-fight was only one fight and neither Maia or Silva will want to have another one like that. So I think this could be a very exciting match...
  8. Current Strikeforce: Rogers Vs Fedor card looks like this: Fedor Vs Rogers (duh) Shields Vs Mayhem Lashley Vs Waterman (source:http://www.fiveknuckles.com/mma-news/Bobby-Lashley-vs-Ron-Waterman-likely-for-upcoming-Strikeforce-event.html) Mousasi Vs ? Werdum Vs ? The main card was going to be 4 fights... With Mousasi all but confirmed and Werdum also very probably... is Mousasi Vs Werdum possible? How 'far' away from Light Heavyweight is Werdum? Or are they gonna do five fights and hope Fedor & Rogers only need one round?
  9. I'll add another question :-) With Dana White being sure he'll sign Fedor...: Say UFC signs Emelianenko to a 3-fight contract, who would you let him face? I think I would go with Couture Vs Emelianenko first (in a contenders match). If Fedor defeats Couture, he could challenge Lesnar for the title. If Couture wins you still would have an interesting Couture Vs Lesnar-rematch and Fedor could take on another contender (Mir, Velasquez, Carwin, Cro Cop...). But if he beats both Couture & Lesnar...
  10. With all due respect to Cain & Carwin... but the luckiest one will be the loser of that fight... Just take a look at the face of Frank Mir after the beatdown he received from Lesnar. Then think what'll happen to a less experienced, less talented fighter... Lesnar is going to eat them... Perhaps they could have a chance in a 2 vs 1 handicap match I think both Cain & Carwin have a big future in the sport... but putting them now against that monster is... sigh... I understand UFC though... there is at this time nobody in the world except perhaps Emelianenko that I can see beating Lesnar.
  11. To go back on the topic of UFC 103's main-event, It will probably be Rich Franklin vs ? (Luis Cane, Vitor Belfort...?). But I was thinking of other top draws that are still available... The only one I really think can headline is Matt Hughes. Perhaps against Dan Hardy? Would that be a good main-event? Other major fighters without scheduled fight? Diego Sanchez? Yushin Okami (vs Sonnen, Belfort, Cote...)? Nice (possible) card would be: Main event: Rich Franklin vs Luis Cane Co-main event: Matt Hughes Vs Dan Hardy Yushin Okami Vs Vitor Belfort
  12. From www.mmaweekly.com: I think this is a very good move of Strikeforce. They have to start thinking what they'll do after Carano Vs Cyborg. The winner will be the first female champ and needs a worthy contender. Someone that preferably the fans allready have seen. Erin Toughill vs ? as a sort of n°1 contenders match is a really good idea imo. I think it's probably going to be Roxanne Modafferi or Sarah Kaufmann (if she's fit allready after her matches with Miesha Tate & Baszler). Tara LaRosa would be cool too... What do you guys think? And to be a bit chauvinistic: Strikeforce should sign Belgian Cindy Dandois. She beat Marlies Coenen in her first MMA match!
  13. Question about UFC 99: I read a lot of people saying that this is a great card. That's mostly because there will probably be some spectacular KO's... But I personally think it is a somewhat weak card as it lacks a decent main event. I'm glad that Kongo replaced Herring as I think both the Frenchman and Velasquez can claim n°1 contender status when succesfull, but both aren't main-eventers yet. The actual main event is Franklin vs Wanderlei. Both Franklin and Wanderlei Silva are nowhere near top contender status at this time, imo. Franklin left middleweight as he got beaten twice by Anderson Silva. Then at light heavyweight, he can't get passed Henderson. Wanderlei is 1-4 in his last 5 matches and has been knocked out by Rampage, Henderson and Mirko Cro Cop. He lost a decision to the meanwhile retired Chuck Liddell (who wasn't the big star anymore he once was) and had a win against unstable Keith Jardine... So, now onto my question: How long has it been ago that the two main-eventfighters of a UFC event came off a loss? And do you guys agree that this is a bit of a weak main event?
  14. Really? Wow... I thought he would be one of the lighter heavyweights... If you compare him to Lesnar, he looks quiet thin :-). To make it even worse for my theory above: I checked wikipedia and Lesnar, Mir, Noguira, Velasquez, Kongo, Carwin, Herring, Cro Cop all seem too heavy to make the transfer... so don't think any real contenders except Couture could make the move :-(
  15. Well... i don't agree that the 205-division will become a problem at the end of 2009. Say Machida remains undefeated, then he gets: 1. Shogun (he allready agreed to the fight and he's probably the only real possibility at this time) 2. Rampage or Evans (Rampage would be better as he hasn't faces Machida yet. Machida dominated Evans so I don't think a rematch would be necessary allready). Don't forget Griffin Vs Anderson Silva is scheduled. Winner of this one could become the contender for Machida's title. 3. Griffin or Silva. (Silva Vs Machida would be a great match I think, Griffin has never faced Machida and holds recent wins over both Rua & Rampage) Then, we'll be probably allready summer 2010. Before this time, guys like Brandon Vera, Jon Jones or Luiz Cane can have a streak, guys like Wanderlei Silvan Henderson or Franklin can be back in 205 or UFC can have acquired some new guys... (I don't know if they have history but why is Sobral not in UFC now?). There is also the possibility of a good heavyweight going down (Couture can do it f.e., I think Mir is not thát heavy either). And then there are TUF 8 stars Ryan Bader and Soszynski who are climbing the ladder rather fast... So, although I also would've preferred Rampage first and then Rua (after another win), I don't think we have to despair for the light heavy UFC-division in the near future...
  16. I'm a bit dissappointed that this means Demian Maia isn't getting his title shot (yet). I suppose he's going to do a contenders match now? Probably against Nate Marquardt... (perhaps Okami). But the match Anderson Vs Forrest should be great. Plus, we get a Thiago Silva Vs Keith Jardine-matchup which should be a great striking match. And there's Evans Vs Machida, Penn Vs Florian, Wanderlei Vs Franklin, Mir Vs Lesnar, Nog Vs Couture, GSP vs Alves, Maia Vs Marquardt (hehe)... that's a lot of interesting matches coming up! Who said the UFC needed Liddell?
  17. Spoiler: Click here to view Pff... I was thinking after the Silva-Leites match: damn, now Maia probably won't get his shot. It just seems kind of unfair... just because Leites and Silva didn't set up a show shouldn't be a reason to get Maia out of his title shot. I think if Silva goes on to face 205 competition, he should vacate the middleweight title and Okami (if he defeats Miller), Marquardt, winner of Bisping Vs Henderson and Maia could have some kind of minitournament for the title. Also, I wonder what will happen to the loser of Couture Vs Nog. Randy Couture is almost 6 years older then Liddell. If he would lose by KO, shouldn't he retire too (like Liddell). It would be his fourth KO in his last seven fights (twice Liddell, once Lesnar, once Nog)... The same thing with Coleman... The way he looked against Rua was not good. If he would've faced the Rua of past Saturday, he probably would've been KO'd
  18. Pfff... Leites, Okami, Bisping... Anderson Silva will be retired before he gets to face Demian Maia. And I thought there were no worthy contenders left in the middleweight division
  19. Surprised no-one mentioned the yet-another-submission-of-the-night of Demian Maia... That guy is really good... He's become my favorite MMA fighter. I don't think he deserves to face Anderson Silva yet, but he should have a contenders match... possibly against Yushin Okami or Nate Marquardt... Never mind the title shot... just read (wikipedia) that Okami is getting a title shot next. So first Leites, then Okami... and then hopefully Maia. Also I don't like Stevenson... he's just... well dunno. Don't like him.
  20. Spoiler: Click here to viewWhat do you have to do exactly to score a 10-8 or 10-7 round??? Rip the other guy's arm off? I really don't understand how Jon Jones could not have gotten a 10-8 or 10-7 in that first round. Or how fair is it that Parisyan won because of two mediocre rounds (both 10-9) while Kim had a very good first round (but that one also scoring 10-9...). I just think there should be a greater difference in the point-scoring each round.
  21. Source: MMA Weekly I think Bellator should sign him for their middleweight tournament... Affliction only has Lindland and Belfort in middleweight.
  22. Some questions I'd like to discuss about UFC 92 and the aftermath of it... 1. When do you guys think Brock Lesnar will fight the winner of Nog vs Mir. Is UFC 96 (march 7) too early? Main-event for UFC 97 looks to be Anderson Silva Vs Thales Leites so that would postpone the heavyweight title fight to UFC 98. Or do you think they will keep it reserved for the UFC 100? 2. Which upcoming fight is the N°1 contender for Light Heavyweight? Jackson Vs Wanderlei Silva? Or Machida Vs Thiago Silva? Or do you guys think the guy of those 4 that makes the best impression will get the shot? 3. Any predictions on matches that will be on the card of UFC 100? I think Dana is allready thinking about this card so... Anderson Silva is probably fighting at UFC 97. GSP Vs Penn at UFC 94. So an Anderson Silva Vs GSP could happen at UFC 100 (if Anderson isn't badly injured after his Leites-fight)?
  23. That K1 show allready has 16 fights... how long is that going to take???
  24. Found some more info. In the 4 games they played (Slovakia, Italy, Croatia and Latvia) Bulgaria got 192 countergoals and only scored once (30 - 1 against Croatia). Best players of Slovakia were one Culikova (10 goals, 7 assists) and Herichova (8 goals, 10 assists).
  25. Life sucks when you're a Belgian soccer fan... it's so unfair. Ugh. I hate Liverpool for the rest of my life.
