  1. I wouldn't mind seeing Swanson face Siver (if he beats Yagin). The winner could even be granted a title fight.
  2. Some thoughts: - Split decision for Mighty Mouse vs Benavidez: Allthough I also think Johnson won it, Benavidez was the aggressor in most of the fight. Mighty Mouse was more focused on counterstriking. As we've seen many times before, this could potentially lead to some very bizarre/boring fights. Maybe that was also the reason some of the audience were booing. I was also looking for Johnson to engage more (allthough I woudn't have been booing). Oh, and it's a bit stupid of Rogan & Goldberg to complain about the fans 'only wanting blood and broken skulls' when a halfhour before they were joking about how great the times were when Coleman was headbutting opponents to oblivion. Great technique? - Jones is phenomenal, but he looked a bit uninterested. I think he had a hard time motivating himself for this fight. He also got caught in that triangle... I hope Hendo is next and not Sonnen. - Bisping looked good, but not great. Still hard to see him as a worthy opponent for Anderson Silva (allthough the hype and talk before would be great). - Swanson's KO was very nice too. He's close to title contention, I guess. But Aldo would be a very difficult opponent for him, he's not likely to catch Aldo as he did with Oliveira. - Only 'mediocre' fight was Hamill-Hollett. The fight didn't do anything to improve both guys I think. Hamill didn't impress, Hollett made a bad debut.
  3. Also rumoured for UFC 153 are Big Nog vs Herman and Barao Vs McDonald... Oh... and Cole Konrad is apparently retiring from MMA. Bellator will need a new heavyweight champ.
  4. Apparently Chael Sonnen vs Wanderlei Silva (at 195) is rumoured for the short-notice UFC 153 main-event. Edgar or Teixeira would probably be off the card then. I kinda like Sonnen taking a catchweight fight before going to light-heavyweight. And for such a short-notice fight, I guess this is one of the better main events they could come up with.
  5. The worst thing is, I really don't see a lot of available options. If I'm not mistaken, Rampage was about the only guy who wanted to face Teixeira anyway. And will Edgar accept a fight with someone not named Aldo? And are Edgar vs Mendes or Edgar vs Lamas worthy main events?
  6. Dunno... I personally would have liked them saving the match for a little while longer and give Edgar at least one other featherweight before Aldo so that he came into the fight with a win. Now he risks a three fight losing streak... and becoming irrelevant for a while. But ok, MMA is a dangerous thing to 'plan'. Who knows if he got matched up with Ricardo Lamas or Chan Sung Jung that he could have been upset. I guess then Aldo vs Edgar would also be off for a while...
  7. You thought DontbanIjustpostdrivel's joke was much better?
  8. You forgot to mention he soccer kicked him when he was allready down without asking the referee for permission to do so... so he's disqualified. JDS keeps his title. In other news, Cormier vs Mir is booked for november 3th in Oklahoma City. Luke Rockhold will likely defend his title against Lorenz Larkin on the same card.
  9. Because Jones destroyed a couple of future Hall of Famers in a row? :-) No, I agree... Silva & GSP are at least at the same level as Jones, maybe higher. I should have written 'one of your top stars'. My bad...
  10. So what you are saying is that Jon Jones should have risked his championship, a good portion of his career, and, well... his overal health, because once in a while you need to 'take one for the team'? Sorry, but in 'fighting' that's ridiculous. If Jon Jones finds it dangerous to go into a fight with Chael Sonnen unprepared, then Jon Jones should have at least the right to choose not to fight. We're not Rome and Jon Jones is not Spartacus. I don't blame anyone really for the UFC 151 failure, but I do blame Dana White for some of the worst communication in history. Like I mentioned some posts before, he could've made it for UFC, himself and Jon Jones a LOT easier by just explaining the situation as it is (or even not mention some things). "Dan Henderson is injured so that match is off, we couldn't find a worthy replacement (let's face it... Sonnen wasn't even one) in that short of a period so unfortunately we cancelled the event. I hope you fans understand it, we hope this never happens again, but some things can't be foreseen.". That would have still left the UFC with the money loss from UFC 151, but at least it wouldn't have led to this whole blaming game (and wouldn't have turned a lot of fans away from your top star.).
  11. I think Sonnen is going to challenge Junior Dos Santos next, then claim he can make 145 and challenge Aldo and finally, because both previous options refuse, challenge Ronda Rousey. And then get armbarred. Make it happen, Dana! Seriously, except for the UFC 151 cancellation, it's not all bad news for the UFC. Some upcoming cards will get better significantly (UFC 152 and UFC on FX5 benefit allready), Jones-Machida II is a good fight, then Hendo will have recovered and could be next and by then, maybe Sonnen will have defeated Forrest Griffin and who knows, another top contender, and will finally deserve a match with Jones. Which could, considering the history and the events today, be huge.
  12. Yes, it is. Also, in fact I meant 'first champ' to get offered another fight in 10 days. He's not some guy trying to prove he belongs with the big guys by defeating a gatekeeper. We are talking about a UFC champion facing an allways dangerous guy in Sonnen (that doesn't deserve the title shot, but is still a dangerous opponent). Totally uncomparable but ok, if we're going to go that way. You prepare months and months for an extremely important project with one of your closest colleagues. Both of you know the details inside and outside but you have offcourse each your specialisation. Then a couple of days before the release, the other guy is in the ER. Would you risk the 'very important project' on your own by well... going for it and thinking 'man, what can go wrong anyway?". And then screwing up the project causing the company to fail and some of your colleagues losing their jobs? I wouldn't... I'd probably tell my boss: "my colleague is back in a month or so. I'd suggest we postpone the release till then'. Also, if it is such an important project, it's up to the company to make sure there's backup. There was obviously no 'backup plan' for the Jones Vs Hendo fight here...
  13. He probably is also the first fighter that gets offered a replacement fighter 10 days before the fight... Maybe we should also blame Machida, Rua, Gustaffson and who knows who else got offered the fight... They all refused it too. Dana White has made a mess out of this. He canceled an event, left 20 fighters in troubles and made one of his star champs look like an ass. Well done, Dana! What was wrong with: "Sorry, Hendo is injured... Jones will fight Machida but you hopefully understand Lyoto needs some time to prepare so that fight is going to be rescheduled to UFC 152. As we felt UFC 151 wasn't left with enough draw power we decided to cancel the event. Sorry guys...we'll make it up to you. Ellenberger vs Hieron has allready been rescheduled to UFC on X 5 so you will be able to see that fight for free!"?
  14. Also... where in hell did Sonnen deserve this fight? He rose to the top of the middleweight division on PED's and got beaten by the Spider twice. To me, that's not exactly the immediate n°1 contender for the light heavyweight title.
  15. Yes, life is sooo simple... except it's not. Jones could have lost. His title..., his unbeaten streak (I don't count the DQ loss as a loss)..., his place in history. Because he took a fight on short notice and wasn't prepared as well as he's used to.
  16. On the world wide web, people are going crazy about Jones his refusal to fight Sonnen on less than 2 weeks notice. At first I was disappointed too and thought Jones should have just accepted the fight. But it's his profession and he's the champ. You don't take risks as 'fighting a guy of Sonnens level in one-week-notice'... I can understand his refusal to fight him... he could only have lost. Toronto will now have a nice card with Jones-Machida, Benavidez-Johnson and Bisping-Stann...
  17. UFC 151 has been cancelled... Hendo is indeed injured, tried training through it but it didn't work. For the first time in history, UFC cancels an event. Chael Sonnen wanted to take his place, Dana was ok with it, Jones wasn't... Damn... EDIT: and Jones Vs Machida has been added for UFC 152 in Toronto...
  18. Rumours are Hendo is out of his fight with Jones. Dana giving press conference in couple of minutes 'about UFC 151'
  19. Well.. there is allways the option of sending someone over from UFC to Strikeforce, like they are doing now with Mir. If Melendez beats Healy, I can't see them not doing this. Maybe even the loser of the upcoming title fight? (If Edgar should lose... he'll have lost twice against the reigning champion and any title ambitions would be on hold for a couple of years). Or Clay Guida?
  20. Let him fight a Grizzly Bear. Superfight, not title shot. And exactly what Diaz deserves! No seriously, I think that there are a couple of worthy contenders in middleweight division and they come first (Bisping, Munoz, Boetsch, Stann and offcourse Weidman). Looking for opponents in other divisions should only happen when no real contenders are available (because the champion has beaten all the top contenders allready).
  21. Surprised by this news. Wasn't Sylvia going to face Cormier? Maybe Sylvia is going to face Barnett then...
  22. If he'd defeat Cormier though (highly unlikely)... I guess he would be back in the UFC.
  23. You have ány idea what Xipamide is? Basically... it makes you pee a bit more. Frank Schleck probably 'took' it drinking green tea. They found the tea in his room, btw. In any other sport, they would simply ignore this case. But offcourse, it's cycling so let's ban him, call him a bastard and put him in jail! This isn't Ricco getting caught with CERA... at least wait until the investigation is over before calling him a bastard. Djeez
  24. I don't agree that Silva should now face Jones or Henderson in another 'superfight'. "Sonnen vs Silva 2" was labeled as a superfight. If we're gonna do them every six months, they won't be superfights anymore. I think we first need a relative 'normal' fight for Silva... I think Munoz (if het defeats Weidman) would be a good option. The guy is a good wrestler but also has the power to knock everybody out. Silva would be a huge favorite offcourse, but it would still be a decent title fight. I think Silva has fought some 'lesser guys' then him (Leites, Irvin, Cote come to mind). After that... maybe go for the Jones vs Silva superfight. Other thoughts on UFC 148: -I love Demian Maia. His win was a bit strange but he was classy in not throwing punches on the defenseless Kim before the referee even stopped the fight. His speech was nice too, he looked very happy and eager to fight... much better then in his last fights. I allready had the feeling that he would quit one of these days as his fighting spirit seemed gone. - Griffin vs Ortiz was a great match. And for some strange reason, I didn't dislike Forrest's aftermatch behaviour. Yeah, the guy is crazy but he's fighting other dudes in a cage. Being a bit crazy helps, I think. - Disappointed in Menjivar. His last fight was great, this one wasn't. Back to the drawing board. Also... I said it before but... Las Vegas fans suck. They booed during the Menjivar-Easton match, they booed Griffin during his interview, they booed and booed and... . UFC must give some of these tickets for free as the people that get them obviously don't like mma. I guess they want to see some bloody gladiatoresque murder spectacle or something... At least they were great during the Griffin vs Ortiz-match and ok during Sonnen vs Silva. But still... if this had happened in Brazil, the fans would've gone crazy during the whole show.
  25. It's not like he didn't try at Cleveland. I saw some of his playoff games... he really did about all he could for the team (proven by how much he was loved back then by their fans). It kinda just didn't work out and I guess he didn't want to risk getting eliminated with his one-man team every single year of his career. When hearing people say the 'it's not that he left, it's the way he left'-argument, I can't help but think of 'that friend' that got dumped by his girlfriend and now tries to convince you that 'it's not that she left me... it's the way she did it'. And then you have to tell him: "SMS, Facebook, by phone... who the hell cares how she left you? The only thing that matters is that she left you. Now, learn to deal with it'. And offcourse there's allways this guy or girl who allready hated her beforehand and is now telling everyone: "See, I told you what a bad person she was! She used to be a prick! Just ask people!" That's about how I look at the situation with Cleveland & Lebron James. People can't deal with the disappointement and then start searching for all kind of stuff he did wrong, so they can blame him instead of dealing with their disappointement. And a lot of people hated him before and use the situation to prove that 'they were always right. He's a prick'. But the situation wouldn't have been any different if he went to NY or Chicago or wherever. Well, maybe some people that hate him now wouldn't then and vice versa (based on location). We've had guys in the NBA that brought guns to their locker, started fights, commited nasty faults and were mentioned in sexual assualt cases and the guy we're supposed to hate made an hour of 'bad television'...
