Chances are they've closed it to the public because THQ poaches their ideas.

Do you get their newsletter? I do, every week, do you know how hard it is to release games independantly? These people are working their fucking arses off, the game is already being developed, at the moment theyre focusing on the prototype release. Give them a break.

You're an idiot, but that's really nothing new or interesting so I will comment on why in this instance your idiocy is newsworthy.

THQ releases games. Well, this is true, it is true in a no-shit sherlock fashion. THQ is a publishing house. Although it mascarades as a development house, it does so poorly. Natural THQ projects tend to swallow penis for fun and profit. Moreover, THQ publishes bad games with good liscenses. This is what THQ does to make money. It allows companies like Yukes, AKI, to make bad games, as long as they have a prominent liscense which will draw fanboyz.

Here's an example of some of the "interesting" games coming from THQ!

SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS: THE BATTLE FOR BIKINI BOTTOM. FEATURING "CRAZY~!2K4!!!!" manuevers like TONGUE BOARDING AND UNDERWEAR BUNGEE JUMPING. AN UNINSPIRED PLATFORMER WITH "CRAZY~!2K4!!!!!!11111" FEATURES AND A LICENSE SLAPPED ON TO INSPIRE PEOPLE TO BUY IT!!!!!!1111111????

FINDING NEMO! FEATURING THOSE "WACKY~!2K4!!!@@@#" CHARAKTERZ FROM THE MOVIE, AND 15 WHOLE LEVELS. BECAUSE AS YOU KNOW PLAYING GAMES FOR OVER AN HOUR INSTEAD OF TAKING IT OUT WHEN YOU'RE DONE YOUR 30 MINUTE QUEST AND BUYING ANOTHER $60 GAME FROM THQ~!2K4 IS FOR NERDS! LONG GAMES WITH NO LICENSES ARE FOR NERDS AND VIRGINS. DON'T BE A SQUARE, BUY THIS GAME.

I won't go on. As a side note the games each touched 3 companies before they even got to to THQ. The most interesting game they have is Stalker, which they didn't make. Their highest seller is undoubtedly their WWE games, which suprisingly enough, they don't make. Are you starting to get the picture here? THQ DOES NOT MAKE GAMES. They sell and release games.

Now, what Pro-Wrestling X was trying to do was trying to become a full-fledged development house. This is difficult, of course. It requires money. Money is hard to come by in a down economy, ecspecially when your team is in two countires and your first product is going to be creating a wrestling game with no liscense. Check the sales of Def Jam Vendetta or Legends of Wrestling against those of Smackdown, Smackdown won despite being the most underdevoled liscense whoring piece of shit in history. If you don't believe me, wait for Matzat, he'll tell you. What attracts a publisher is a license, because you can make a game that kicks seven shades of Shaq's black ass, and it's not going to sell without a license. If you want you only need to go back to the days of the Saturn/N64/Sony war. Sony won, why? Because they threw huge money at the NFL and MLB, and you couldn't see MLB teams and stadiums on N64 or Saturn. Ditto with the NFL. The NFLPA and MLBPA were more accomodating but in the end, who won? Sony. Because people aren't going to care about the Shawinigen Sharks when they could be playing as the Montreal Expos. No one is going to play as the Los Angeles Stars when they could play as the Oakland Raiders. And the bottom line is that both the Quarterback Club games and Sony's World Series baseball series were superior games that didn't sell without a license.

Now, there is one way to attract a publisher without a license, and that's to invent a completely original gameplay concept. Look at Shiny. They came up with the Earthworm Jim games, and when they hit the market Interplay was all over them. They threw money and licenses at them like Sycodmn throws dollar bills at a California hooker. They got the fucking Matrix liscense for Christs sake, despite the fact that their most sucessful game to that point was MDK, and to call MDK a sleeper hit would be generous. Now, Pro Wrestling X has a good idea, to come out with a game that surpasses Smackdown in gameplay to the point where license becomes irrelevant. But they opened themselves up to fan discussion and suggestion, and since they began Smackdown has had two games released, both of which have liberally incorporated suggestions made to the PWX community and pandered to the internet wrestling community despite delivering gameplay that insults their intelligence, much in the same way WWE booking insults their fans intelligence.

Now, as much as I appreciate your uninformed trolling, maybe you should ease off on it, because it will eventually grow tiresome if you answer IWC's legitimate questions about a site he once supported openly with snide self-serving commentary and I continually destroy your half formed thoughts that come out as fully posted comments.

Thank you, goodnight.

Edit: That was obviously not directed at Kaya. And I was unaware they were still pubklishing their newsletter, on account of losing it three email adresses ago.

Then they should withhold information until some progress is made. I've seen plenty of wrestling games for pc being announced in the past few years, seen the screenshots of arenas and renders of wrestlers, and then.. nothing. Either nothing new is heard of the game or progress is stopped. I'd like to see the game released, but until some progress is made (in terms of programming), all that is listed is another wishlist for the next Smackdown title.

They sure do. Home Alone 2 on the SNES, what a waste of a rental.

Better tell THQ Australia Studios that. And while your at it, tell Cranky Pants Games, since they seem to think they are owned by THQ. Just because each developer isn't called THQ Developer (Location), it does not mean that THQ doesn't make games.

I'm a fan of the Rollercoaster Tycoon series. For a long time people wished for a version of RCT that was in 3D instead of 2D. Dark Helmet, a fan of the game decided that he wanted to make this a reality, and started creating a game known as RCTGL, which allowed viewing of RCT parks in 3D (with day or night mode, as suggested by fans). Later on, a program known as Rollercoaster Rider allowed the "riding" of RCT tracks transformed into 3D.

Now Atari has announced Rollercoaster Tycoon 3D, which allows you to create and view parks and rollercoasters in 3D, as well as many suggestions put forward by fans. Does this mean Dark Helmet should be pissed off because Atari has stolen his idea as well as several others he was going to implement?

Your wasting your time with your "intelligent" insults SDM.

That comeback was incredibly lame. Home Alone 2? The SNES? What have you done for me lately? Oh yeah, I'm sorry, there are some games released by Cranky Pants Games. OMG I AM SO DEAD WRONG.

Pro Wrestling X didn't close down because they were pissed off at Yukes, they closed down because the only good things Yukes added to their game came straight off the PWX feature list. Thus, the obscurity, the silence, the low profile until they can present a game which is more then just speculation ripe for the poaching. It was a self-defense motion done to preserve the originallity of their work.

This, by the way, is what we like to call an educated guess. To know what one of those is, you would need some form of education. Since you have no idea how business works, I am guessing you washed out of pre-school.

And congrats on the double post. Maybe next time you should try the edit button, ecspecially since both of your posts are smaller then my original idea. Or here's a wild thought. IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE AN UNIMFORMED TROLL JUST DON'T POST. A novel idea, I say. Do you know what a novel is? Maybe you should go read one where the good guys win, because as long as you systematically ignore the parts of my posts that you can't spin into a malformed approximation of a rebuttal, I will continue to decimate what I laughingly refer to as your arguement.

PWX hasn't actually closed down at all. The game is now just about in production, they are in the process of securing a Canadian government grant for even more funding, and the website is now (as far as I know it always was) http://www.wrestlinggamersunited.com/

And its currently fairly empty due to this:

Comeback? I'm agreeing with you, the games that THQ brings out are not that good.

Pro Wrestling X didn't close down because they were pissed off at Yukes, they closed down because the only good things Yukes added to their game came straight off the PWX feature list.

The people behind PWX were pretty stupid to list them. If you decided to create a first person shooter that you were planning to sell, and this game was planning to feature brand new features never seen before in this genre of game, wouldn't you want to keep this secret in order to protect your potential investment?

Yukes may of stole features from PWX's list of ideas. Low and sneaky, yes. Wrong? No. At the end of the day, Yukes and THQ want to move as many copies of the latest WWE title it can, so it can keep it's contract with the WWE, bringing them in more money. That's what businesses do, find ways of making money.

Thus, the obscurity, the silence, the low profile until they can present a game which is more then just speculation ripe for the poaching. It was a self-defense motion done to preserve the originallity of their work.

Then why didn't they do it from the start?

This, by the way, is what we like to call an educated guess. To know what one of those is, you would need some form of education. Since you have no idea how business works, I am guessing you washed out of pre-school.

Going in circles here. I couldn't care less for your insults.

IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE AN UNIMFORMED TROLL JUST DON'T POST.

Do you even know what a troll is? Given what you have been posting, many people could label you as a troll (given the insults and the defensiveness of your reply). Perhaps you will one day realise that not everyone is looking for an arguement. Somehow I think this may go over your head, given your previous reply.

No you weren't agreeing with me, you were trying to prove that THQ is a development house. I never said that they weren't, but they are primarily a second rate liscense pushing publishing house, and second a bad platformer poorly managed crappy game assembly line of a development house.

This is old, I'm tired of getting in arguements with people and they then say "I was agreeing with you, don't get so defensive, omgwtf" when it's clear they have no idea what they are talking about and just want me to lay off on the verbal annihilation.

But at the end of the day I'm not saying that THQ is low or sneaky. I'm saying that PWX made a mistake by being overly optimistic about putting out some competition for WWE games, and that when their futures started to show up in the Smackdown series, they went hush hush. You said "unlik this PWX gay THQ putz out gamez OMGWTF", which was a stupid flaimebaiting statement considering a lot of people here are sick of second rate crap with a WWE logo in the corner. To come back and say "I don't want an arguement, you're the troll" is just a cheap self defense mechanism like a corset. No one cares how much you push up your breasts when your face looks like you got run over by a mack truck. Nor does anyone care that you agree with me when you were already to argue with me before I clearly demonstrated you are clueless and I am way out of your league.

And it's good that you couldn't care less about my insults. Maybe it will prevent you from replying since we agree and you don't care? I doubt it but heres to hoping.

Guest Future Shock

I hate to say it, but Sean's right. Psyco, you did make a teency weency flame bait comment there. I think you were looking for an argument too. So meh.

Anyways, I saw some REALLY early animations of this game like two years ago and it blew my mind. They already had the Quebrada DDT down perfectly. It was awesome. Hopefully the gameplay is as good.

So basically this is about THQ, or Yukes, whoever makes the games stealing from them? Of course I may be wrong...but I find that hard to believe. I just don't think that randomly someone involved with the production of the game, would be searching some sites for even more gaming ideas (Ok, this part sounds wrong, I do know they look at some forums and stuff for ideas like some other games, but I mean for the purpose of poaching ideas) ...especially an independent wrestling game, that there wasn't even a LOT known about it, in terms of recognition.

Now I don't doubt that the creators would use another wrestling game as a basis for new things...it's just the fact that I dont' believe it would be THIS game.

One of the Smackdown game specifically directs a statement thanking internet wrestling fans in one of their credits. One of the WGU staffers (basically, their answer to me) shot back with a long rant on why THQ and customer satisfaction should never be combined. Since then, WGU ideas have popped up in Smackdown games.

Is the head of THQ trolling the WGU forums looking for game ideas? Obviously not. But THQ is not like WWE where everyone answers to Vince. It's more like WCW, commitees, boards, levels of management. Did someone who works at THQ used to be a wrestling fan, see an idea on the board, and suggest it in a meeting? Possibly. With each new game they hire a new crop of staff and if people are interested in a project like a wrestling game and THQ isn't hiring, the chances of them hearing about WGU are decent.

And what wrestling game are they gonna poach from? KOC is too slow. Def Jam Vendetta is a cheap copy with gameplay on crack speed and flash over substance. Legends of Wrestling isn't widely accepted as a good game. What's left?

Its a Canada based production, and I believe the general idea is that since its attempting to promote something that is (was?) a tradition in Canada, its a good thing. Cant remember the exact details.
