Manchester United footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has been released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of rape.

Scotland Yard confirmed a man in his 20s has been released pending further inquiries into the allegation.

The Portuguese international was questioned about claims a woman was sexually assaulted at a central London hotel on 2 October.

Manchester United said it was "not commenting at the moment".

Ronaldo, 20, attended the station and was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police's specialist Sapphire team.

He was held in custody while being interviewed about allegations made by a woman that she was raped in the penthouse suite of a hotel the day after Manchester United played Fulham.

A man in his 30s also kept an appointment at the police station, but has not been arrested.

BBC crime correspondent Neil Bennett said normal procedure was for the police to interview the alleged victim and alleged perpetrator and send a file to the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether anyone should be charged.

I remember when 13 of our Leicester City squad got done - it was front page news everywhere, and when everyone got aquited we got one column that was hardly a 1/8 of a page... The thing is I place a lot of blame for our relegation down to this, the players who faced the charges (Dickov, Stewart etc) all performed to a much worse standard and thus we dropped the 6 points needed to survive. Fuck the press, chances are Ronaldo is innocent and the woman consented to the sex. What is up with this country, it is absoluly dreadful overall.

Wasn't Gary Flicroft the one that the papers revealed was having an affair?

Don't think he got done for rape.

Van Persie was the most recent example of it I think.

Flitcroft tried to stop the papers telling the world about his affair by taking them to court. It didn't work, of course.

It's bullshit. Remember the Arsenal goalie, Graham Stack? He got accused of rape, and spent about nine months waiting for his trial and such. Then, in less than a day, he was found not guilty.

The thing that really pisses me off about these cases is that the women remain anonymous. Stack has seen his life nearly ruined by the bitch, even though he was found not guilty and didn't actually do anything, but she remains anonymous.

I'm with the majority on this, sounds like another case of attention seeking women accusing innocent footballers. I'm guessing there might have been some contact between the two but the women over-exagertaed it. It's really starting to get annoying now, there's been countless accusations like this in the past couple of years and in the end nothing really ends up happening.

The girl wants money, she sees Cristiano Ronaldo as a good way to get it, she may have met him or something, and said he raped her, most likely bullshit that will be dragged on for too long.
