I would go for a Bowie or Iggy Pop movie though.

Velvet Goldmine. Bowie didn't like it, so it doesn't use their real names, but it's fairly strongly based on the relationship between the two.

I read about that one a while back, but meh, I'd rather see it on them using their real names and such... and wasn't the movie just based on their rumored relationship that's shaky at best in believeability?

It's not based entirely on that...it's not a biopic by any stretch of the imagination, but the writers have obviously done their research, and it's a very good film in it's own right.

I can't imagine a full-on Bowie biopic being that interesting, though, and an Iggy one would only be marginally better.

Walk The Line worked, because Johnny Cash lead such a bizarre and amazing life, and because it had a defining love story, so it translated well into film. Not many would work the same way.

I think Meat Loaf would be a great one. Nice romance story.......ignoring his divorce....lol. Also chronicaling(sp) Meat's dad trying to kill him, Hair, RHPS, Bat Out Of Hell I, his drop from fame into alcohol and bankruptcy upto the great Bat Out Of Hell II, and maybe covering the impending Bat Out Of Hell III. But preferably not because thats Meat selling out without Jim Steinman.

And if anyone brings up "To Hell And Back" I will kill them :P.....lol It was B-grade, had mistakes everywhere....and was just shit.

Maybe a Tupac one or something.

Though we will prolly get an Elvis one, and another Kurt Cobain one.

That is a fucking amazing film, I recomend anyone to see it who hasn't already, the ending and the way it's all set up, just awesome.

Ian Curtis would make a great movie. Especially if it doesn't end after he kills himself and goes on to show his effect on much of music.

If bizzare doesn't apply to Bowie or Pop, I don't know exactly what does.

Eh...their lives as a whole generally aren't that interesting. They were bizarre public figures, sure, but that's not what a biopic could cover. Johnny Cash was an enigmatic public figure, with an eventful private life. Bowie and Pop are flamboyant public figures, with fairly bog-standard (in rock star terms) private lives, that wouldn't make for a great film, in my opinion.

I fucking hate all of you.

BOB DYLAN.

There, I said it.

No, really. Go stick your namby-pamby Bowie and Iggy, or your Hendrix movie (it'd be like 20 minutes long) and your Tupac one. What would a Tupac movie be? "He sucked, then he got shot?"

Damn you all. Bob Dylan needs a movie made about him, and IIRC there were rumours about just such a film a while back, but I haven't heard anything about them in months so I dunno. It makes sense, more than any other rock star.

He's watchable, he had an amazing career, and you could pretty much make a 3 hour movie out of the 1962-66 period alone, he moved so fast creatively and did so much. Imagine, a movie charting him from his days in the coffee shops to being the speed-fuelled, tousle-haired hipster who pissed off the world by going electric in 1965, wore himself down to the ground in 1966, and nearly died in a motorcycle crash just weeks after going home?

That'd be a damn good movie, and would leave it open for a sequel. IIRC, the rumoured movie was going to take place over a much longer period, and have multiple people playing Dylan, which is madness. You're better off concentrating on the early period, with one actor, and making probably the only "rock star biopic" worth a dime.

Dylan changed music. More so than Bowie, Pop, or the Rat Pack. And he was a much, much more revolutionary figure outside of just music, too. Plus, he was sexier, and led a more interesting life.

Start mentioning him before the 3rd page of a thread, people.

I have to disagree here. A movie about Iggy Pop could be fantastic if it was done well. There's a lot of strange shit about him that I've read which would make great cinema. There are a ton of great stories about him in the Uncensored Oral History of Punk. I'd love to see the scene where he and the Stooges are snorting coke with Miles Davis, or when he and some friends are spraying the walls with their blood from doing heroin. Sure it's well documented that Iggy was a fucking wild man, but his antics on stage, at home, on the road would make for a great film in my humble opinion. Watching his self destruction would be absolutely entertaining to me.

I'm not trying to challenge your position or anything like that. I'm just saying there were a lot of different aspects of Iggy's life that would make for a very good movie.

By the way, I recently saw Velvet Goldmine and it was a very good movie. I just wish I could remember more of it, but I was pretty well lit up.

Anyway, they're making a Darby Crash movie (the Germs lead singer) which is either going to be amazing or a total fucking trainwreck.

A movie about Black Randy would be great as well. I'd love to see his whoring himself out, drug abuse, and just general brilliance brought to the movie screen. This is a guy that lived in a pornographic penny arcade (he wrote a song about this). His character will be in the Darby Crash movie though.

A Johnny Thunders movie could be very interesting. There would be a lot of different things that they could incorporate into the movie about his life.

Eh, I guess for the most part I just dislike the idea of a biopic in general, as it's rarely pulled off well, and (especially in the cases when it's not executed well) it's fairly disrespectul to the individual in question to cut their life down into two hours or so that they deem entertaining. An Iggy Pop movie could be good if done artistically and interestingly, but I'm thinking along the lines of Ray or Walk The Line, just a more traditional "Hollywood" movie format, in which it wouldn't really work, as there's no real defining points to build it around, in my opinion. I mean, how would it end? Iggy finding God? That would be the worst film ending in history.

The movie would need the right direction, but I'm thinking if they also had some emphasis on the other Stooges it could be pretty good. I'd start with their formation in Ann Arbor, and first document the recordings and rise of the Stooges. They could focus on the band living in a house they all had together, and a near fatal run-in with a local biker gang. There would be a lot of good stuff to show from Iggy's time in New York at CBGB's, and his time living in L.A. There is also the stuff I mentioned in the earlier post, but as you mentioned the ending would be a tough one. If it were me, I'd have the movie end sometime in the late 70s or 80s. They could show aspects of their relationship with the MC5, and how rock and roll had become stale up until the Stooges and MC5 formed.

Honestly, part of me just wants to see Iggy and the Stooges snorting coke with Miles Davis. :P

I see where your coming from on the disrespectful portion as well. Look at the movie The Doors, a good film but heavily embellished. The movie pretty much focused on Morrison's antics and being a complete asshole. Hell, Ray Manzarek himself said the movie didn't do Jim any justice.

This is another reason I'm a bit worried about the quality of What We Do Is Secret.

There already is a Dylan movie in production. Sort of. It's called I'm Not There, and will feature numerous actors playing Dylan, including Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Richard Gere, Heath Ledger, and Julianne Moore. It's directed by the guy who did "Velvet Goldmine", and is currently filming in Montreal.
