New York Islanders trade Zdeno Chara, Bill Muckalt and second overall pick in the 2001 draft (Jason Spezza) to Ottawa Senators for Alexei Yashin.

Was a great trade for Ottawa but a horrible trade for the Islanders.

All these trades have been good trades for one party. When I think of bad trades, I think of LA trading Rick Tocchet to Boston for Kevin Stevens. Both these guys were excellent players, but failed miserably with their new teams.

When I think of good trades, I think of all those that helped both teams. Like the three way deal where Chicago traded Steve Larmer to the Rangers and got Tony Amonte. Rangers won the Stanley Cup and Chicago got a franchise player for years to come. Or Joe Nieuwendyk for Jarome Iginla. Dallas won the Cup, Nieuwendyk got Conn Smythe as playoff MVP, and you all know the impact Iginla has made with the Flames.

Celtics get Robert Parish and the No. 3 pick (Kevin McHale).

L.A. trades Pedro for Delino DeShields.

Hornets give up rights to Kobe Bryant for Lakers' Vlade Divac.

St. Louis Hawks trade Bill Russell to Boston for Ed Macauley and Cliff Hagan in 1956.

Canucks trade Cam Neely to Bruins with a No. 1 pick (Glen Wesley) for center Barry Pederson in 1986.
