So at the moment, HMV have a lot of good offers on the website that aren't available in the shops. Normally this would be no problem and I'd just go and order them, however, I have heard a lot of negativity around ordering items from HMV's website, so, anyone care to offer their opinions on the service offered?

I think I've only used their website maybe twice ever, but I never had any problems.

I've ordered the odd CD off their site. I've had no problems.

I ordered something in the beginning of November, it took until the end of February to get here. Not great considering it was a Christmas present.

Granted the item was quite obscure, but they listed it as In Stock or Available, so I was rather peeved at the delay.

That's the only time I've ordered from them though. I'd assume it was a one off, and that with more common items there wouldn't be a problem.

Actually that's a point. I now remember once seeing that they listed an old WWF DVD as being "in stock" when, of course, they could no longer sell such things. I ordered it out of curiosity, and it took them a number of weeks to email me back and say "we have been having difficulty obtaining the item you requested and so have cancelled the order". Yeah, I don't doubt. Clearly what they claim to be "in stock" can sometimes have a rather shakey relationship with reality.

I had entirely forgotten that.

Thats the sort of thing I was on about, however if it's just for obscure/unavailable items, then it shouldn't matter. Thanks.

The point we were making is that they advertised it as available when it wasn't. But you should be alright if you want some common stuff.

I've not had any problems with them, but I don't think I've ever ordered anything obscure, mostly stuff in sales to be honest. Watch out for the old "on order from supplier" availability, I've got a feeling that'll take far longer to arrive, if at all. A whole load of older Xbox games had that when I was looking, I don't think most of them were "in print" or whatever you'd call it anymore.
