From what I've heard of the Arctic Monkeys new album, that'll shape up to be fantastic.

So far though:

Klaxons - Myths of the Near Future

Stars of the Lid - And Their Refinement of the Decline

Switches - Heart Tuned to D.E.A.D.

Maximo Park - Our Earthly Pleasures

Field Music - Tones of Town

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible

Thirteen Senses - Contact

The Shins - Wincing the Night Away

Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Sank

Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero

I've listened and liked a ton more but they escape me now.

As far as ones I want:

Arctic Monkeys

Rooney

White Stripes

Sufjan Stevens

The Mars Volta

The New Pornographers

Queens of The Stone Age (This is the main one I want)

Interpol

Lupe Fiasco

Kanye West (hopefully)

The others will come to me but those are probably the main ones.

I thought Neon Ballroom was really where they hit their stride. The album had a really grand, theatrical sound to it that I think is missing from most music nowadays. While I like some of their other stuff, I really think they should have kept with the sound they had going during the Neon Ballroom era.

Note: it's entirely possible that I've mistaken the name "Neon Ballroom" for one of their other albums... basically, whichever one had the sound that I was trying to describe was the one I thought was their best. Also, I guess I shouldn't have said that it was their only good album, as I have enjoyed all of them to some degree.

Oh ho. Year 2007 has already kicked off to a great start on the metal front, and will only heat up as the year proggresses.

Highlights so far include:

"Gothic Kabbalah" by Therion

"The Hellenic Terror" by Kronos

"ROM 5:12" by Marduk

"Icons Of Evil" by Vital Remains

"Marasmus" by Leng Tch'e

And on the horizon for this year... Holy crap there's a lot of stuff I'm looking forwards to, here's a sample of the stuff I really want to get my hands on at some point:

Mayhem's "Ordo Ab Chao"

Vomitory's "Terrorize Brutalize Sodomize"

Pelican's "City Of Echoes"

Cephalic Carnage's "Xenosapien"

Turisas' "The Varangian Way"

Pig Destroyer's "Phantom Limb"

Korpiklaani's "Tervaskanto"

Behemoth's "The Apostasy"

Also the as-of-now-unnamed albums from Deeds Of Flesh and Meshuggah.

I'm pretty hyped up for what the rest of the year will bring with it ^_^

Kid Gloves, Stephen and Firecracker are the three songs that really stood out for me. Some decent stuff late on as well.

I'll give it another listen, I sort of got it when I got about 10 other albums and stuff so it only got a half-hearted listen once or so (excpet Firecracker which I listened to about 10 times) :P

Wikipedia has informed me that there will be another Deltron 3030 album this year! That has become my number 1 must have album this year, tied with New Pornographers.

The Mad Caddies album has leaked. And it's literal sex. All the people who hate on ska really have to hear some Mad Caddies...and Big D...and Streetlight Manifesto......and other good stuff.

Finally gave "Inventions For The New Season" by Maserati a full listen through, and I fucking love it. Maserati are hands down the best instrumental band around at the moment. At the minute it's like everyone wants to be Explosions In The Sky, or are doing the total slightly dirgy post-rock, but Maserati have their own little niche sound. It's generally light on the ear, but it doesn't sound like anything else I've heard. Class stuff.

"Los Feliz" by Chuck Ragan makes my heart melt. Amazing live album. It's weird having someone put out a live album before a studio album though.

New Arctic Monkeys, I'm not decided on. Individually the songs don't seem as good. But as a package, there's less "meh" songs, which I found about the debut. Definately different. Definate old school ska influences in there as well.

Picked up "Thief" by Sunchild. And I'm currently listening it through now. 70's rock in style. Pretty sexy.
