90s Alternative/Rock

Hickey

Recommended Posts

Recently, I've been getting back into all the 90s grunge and alternative music that I loved growing up. I was hoping some of you could suggest some good 90s music (though I probably have most of it) and maybe some good alternative music from nowadays. Recently, new music has been pretty shitty for me. I was hoping some people could suggest some good music.

Also, you could use this thread to post your favorite 90s albums, bands, and songs. I'm interested in everybody's picks from that decade.

Veruca Salt

Butthole Surfers

Soul Coughing

Silverchair

Spacehog

Bad Religion

Filter

Live

Local H

Bush

Presidents of the United States of America

Social Distortion

Sponge

Primus

Jimmie's Chicken Shack

Just a few of the bands that are sometimes overlooked by folks.

Lots of good one hit wonders in that era too: Breeders, Elastica, Republica, Edwin Collins, Luscious Jackson, Refreshments, On, Fun Lovin Criminals, Ash, etc.

Of course the heavy-hitters: STP, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Weezer, Beck, Garbage, Incubus, Green Day, Offspring, Garbage, etc.

Looking for new-ish bands: Hot Hot Heat, Auf der Maur, Dead 60s, Motion City Soundtrack (may have too much of a mainstream sound for you though), Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Modest Mouse, Muse, Franz Ferdinand.

I love Sublime and 311. I, of course, also love most of what Zero has posted, but I have forgotten a bunch. I went into this weird stage where I just pretty much forgot about most 90s music. I moved backwards to like the 70s and 80s. Now, I'm back in it and you guys are reminding me of all the great bands. Some of the bands are ones that I have not even heard or just forgot about them. Thanks so far.

Also, some bands not mentioned are:

Alice In Chains

Everclear

Jane's Addiction

Temple of the Dog

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Toadies

My Bloody Valentine

Lit

Buckcherry

Orgy

Rage Against the Machine

No Doubt

Zero and MPH have covered most of the important stuff, but no mention of The Lemonheads? You disappoint me. Get some Lemonheads in your life, ASAP.

On a similar note, Juliana Hatfield.

On other notes; Pulp, Leftfield/Lydon, Lush.

And because I'm obliged to mention him in "suggest me music" threads, "Bone Machine" by Tom Waits.

Can't believe I forgot the Lemonheads, Hatfield, Everclear and Toadies. A lot of the bands Souljah just listed, I left out because I figured they were obvious, but how could I forget the fucking Lemonheads?!

A few more:

Sugar Ray (actually used to be a pretty heavy band until "Fly")

Toad the Wet Sprocket

Lenny Kravitz

Gin Blossoms (if you're feeling feminine that day, haha)

Counting Crows
