I like the dude, but when people are trying to say he's one of the top 5 rappers of all time, when he's (arguably) not even one of the top 5 mainstream rappers right now, thats crazy.

Kanye West makes some good music, but he is definitely, definitely overrated to all hell.

That being said, hip hop is far from dead, you just need to venture beyond MTV/BET to find most good hip hop/rap.

Honestly, he's kinda like Eazy-E to me, where he's catchy, and entertaining, but he's more of a sideshow to the kind of rap I like, and even making that comparison is sketchy to me, because I'm an unabashed west coast fanboy, and adore Eazy.

Yeah I agree, as a lyricist he's nowhere near top 5. I won't even go into Tupac who I think, along with Biggie, is one of the most over-rated artists of all times. Kanye always has a good selection of colabs on his album with better rappers - Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Nas - so he's not afraid to admit it I guess.

Well anyone hoping for those artists on his new album are going to be disappointment. I read in a MTV article that the only other artist on the album is Young Jeezy when he ad-libs in "Can't Tell Me Nothin" other then that it's just Ye on the records.

I wouldn't call The Clipse on the level of Talib or Common as far as being a social conscious rapper but for some reason I'm always looking forward to hearing their stuff. Especially after the way they were pushed back at Jive.

You guys gotta check out Pharaohe Monch's new cd, Desire, it's a great album. The man hasn't lost a step since Internal Affairs or his Organized Confusion days. I also recommend Joel Ortiz's The Brick: Bodega Chronicles. Joel could be big if Aftermath pushes him good enough. And Canibus' new cd, For Whom the Beat Tolls, is great for the fans who want crazy lyrics. Talib Kweli will be dropping soon as well, Eardrum.
