6 Degrees of Band Creation

While at work I thought this up and thought it'd be cool. Like degrees of Kevin Bacon and seperation, only you create six piece dream band by only using musicians who have played together on albums/live (you must name the track/album/song in the link.

It's harder than it sounds to get a good well rounded band. Obviously, I'll start.

My orginator is Anthony Kiedis (on vocals)...

Who plays with Flea (on bass) in RHCP...

Who played with Dave Grohl (on drums) in Nirvana during Hollywood Rock 93...

Who played with Josh Homme (on ryhthm guitar and on backing vocals/lead certain tracks) in QOTSA...

Who plays with Troy Van Leeuwen (on lead guitar) in QOTSA...

Who played with Tim Alexander (on drums) in A Perfect Circle...

Because having two drummers is cool

Playing a large mix of funk and rough tracks at high speed, basically, QOTSA, but with the louder, faster and fun elements of the Chili's.

Best collaboration ever:

Lance Bass (vocalist #1)...

Who covered "What's Going On" with Aaron Lewis from Staind (vocalist #2)...

Who did a live version of "Outside" with Fred Durst ("vocalist" #3)...

Who did a track with Scott Weiland on Chocolate Starfish (vocalist #4)...

Who is in Velvet Revolver with drummer Matt Sorum...

Who was in Guns N' Roses with Axl Rose (vocalist #5).

Five shitty vocalists and a drummer. Best band ever.

My originator would obviously be Tobias Sammet (on vocals).

Who plays with Alex Holzworth (drums) in Avantasia.

Who plays with Luca Turilli (lead guitar) in Rhapsody of Fire.

Who played with Sascha Paeth (bass) on his solo albums (Luca's solo albums, that is).

Who's played with and produced for just about everyone, including Jens Johansson (keyboards), while they were both guesting on Kamelot's 'The Black Halo'.

Jens played with Yngwie Malmsteen (joint lead guitar ¬_¬) on his solo albums.

Wow... that would be a really random band. But just imagine the duelling guitar solos ¬_¬ Edit: I just realised I could've skipped the Kamelot link all together, as Paeth was on the Aina project, as was Johansson.

Let's try for a more traditional band.

Originator: Bruce Dickinson (vocals, obviously).

Played with Nicko McBrain (drums) in Iron Maiden.

Played with Pat Travers (guitars) in the Pat Travers Band.

Played with Mars Cowling (bass) in the Pat Travers Band.

Played with Glenn Tipton (keyboards on this occasion) in The Flying Hat Band.

Played with KK Downing (guitars) in Judas Priest.

How awesome would that be? ¬_¬

Neil Young (vocals/rythm guitar)

who played with Nils Lofgren (guitar/keys) when he was backed by crazy horse

who played guitar for Bruce Springsteen's (vocals/rythm guitar) E-Street Band

who played with La Bamba (trombone) from Conan O'brien in the Seeger Session Band

who played with David Bowie (vocals/bassist) from DAVID FUCKING BOWIE

who played with Dennis Davis (drums) one of the most solid session drummers in pop rock.

It would be gritty rock and roll with Bowie's lead vocals being backed by Neil and Bruce's gravelly grit, and Lofgren's pounding virtuoso solos. Plus some crazy trombone effects.

BOOKIT.

So I came up with another one, using a 'Canadian Pop-Rock' theme...

Tom Cochrane, who played in Red Rider with (and was backed in his solo career by)...

Jeff Jones, who was a founding member of Rush along with...

Neil Peart, who collaborated on 'Battlescar' with...

Kim Mitchell, who had a guitar solo on Barenaked Ladies' 'Wind It Up', their keyboardist being...

Kevin Hearn, who has collaborated with the Rheostatics, their guitarist being...

Dave Bidini.

Two lineups for this one...

Cochrane on vocals, Mitchell on lead guitar, Bidini on rhythm guitar, Hearn on keyboards, Jones on bass, Peart on percussion

Mitchell on vocals and rhythm guitar, Bidini on lead guitar, Hearn on keyboards, Jones on bass, Peart on percussion, and Cochrane playing a harmonica or something :shifty:

I would have preferred Robertson or Page from BNL, but neither of them either were a keyboardist or seem to be linked to one.

Also, a fellow by the name of Stephen Duffy is a link between BNL and Duran Duran. Just thought I'd point that out. :shifty:

So lemme try this for real;

1. John Bonham of Led Zeppelin (drums) is the origin...

2. Paul McCartney (vocals/bass guitar) of The Beatles played on and organized the Rockestra sessions that Bonham played on...

3. Eric Clapton (lead guitar) played "Something" with McCartney at the Concert For George...

4. Pete Townshend (backing guitar) of The Who played with Clapton on stage, and organized his rehab concert...

5. Mick Jagger (lead vocals) of the Rolling Stones had Townshend play guitar on some of his solo tracks...

6. David Bowie (keyboards) had "Dancing In The Street" with Jagger in 1985...

They can pretty much all do vocals, the way I see it.

Let's see where I can go with this:

Will Rahmer (bass/vocals)...

Who played with A Drum Machine (drums) in Mortician...

Who was the object of affection of Beck (guitar/vocals) who proclaimed he wanted to make love to one at one of the VMA's...

Who also released an EP using a Nintendo Game Boy (samples)...

Which was also used by Alec Empire (more samples)...

Who's Atari Teenage Riot collaborated with Slayer's Tom Araya (bass/vocals) on the Spawn Soundtrack.

Tom Waits on vocals...

Whose band once included Les Claypool (on bass),

Who also performed with Buckethead (on guitar),

Who has often recorded with Bootsy Collins (on bass),

Who recorded a track with Jerry Harrison (on keyboards),

Who played with David Robinson in the Modern Lovers (on drums).

That was interesting. Let's try another.

Stephen O'Malley on bass...

Who performed with Lee Dorrian in Teeth Of Lions Rule The Divine (on vocals),

Who played with Dave Grohl for Probot (on drums),

Who played with Kim Thayil with Probot (on guitar),

Who played with Atsuo of Boris on Altar (on percussion),

Who, also on Altar, performed with Jesse Sykes (on vocals).

That would be the AWESOME.

...and I've just noticed that YI's band also features the killer combination of Bootsy and Buckethead. Rock.
