The Official Coca-Cola Leagues Thread

They are-they had a choice of making him the permanent manager and buying new players next month or getting somebody totally new and buying nobody. They don't have the money apparently.

Who are Leeds supposed to be playing? I still can't believe our game was called off in February because the police wanted to move it forward to a 12pm kick off to avoid 'trouble' from visiting Leeds fans. Because they did this the pitch didn't thaw in time due to some shoddy groudnsmanship and it got rearranged for April.

Hereford. And yeah, that was ridiculous, because I had tickets (and they were like gold dust) and couldn't make the fucking rearranged game.

And Leeds fans get treated like shit everywhere. Luton last year, we had to wait for 2 hours at a service station for a police escort and we were dropped off right outside the entrance anyway, it's not as if anyone could have run off and started rioting around Luton. We've had 5 of our away games kick off at 3pm Saturday, the others have been moved to midweek or times changed to stupid o'clock, yet the OB didn't move Millwall for some stupid reason. Yeah, Leeds fans are going to kick off at Yeovil but Millwall should be just fine.

So it's not quite the Coca Cola League, but dig this:

LONDON, Dec 29 (Reuters) - A player with English minor league club Chippenham Town has set a record for the fastest-red card in senior soccer when he was sent off for a wild tackle three seconds after kickoff, British media reported on Monday.

Striker David Pratt, 21, was dismissed in a Southern Premier League game against Bashley on Saturday.

The previous fastest sending-off is generally accepted to be 10 seconds for Bologna’s Giuseppe Lorenzo after he struck an opponent in a 1990 Italian league game.

English soccer’s previous “best” was 13 seconds when Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Kevin Pressman handled outside his box in a game in 2000.

I read about that the other day. The guy who got sent off was fuming, saying the ref got carried away by the 'big match atmosphere'. A mighty 389 people attended that game.

And yeah, I agree. When we were in the Conference we got treated like scurge of the earth on away days, not because we ever caused trouble (cos we didn't, and never have) but because we had a big away following. Ground staff at Stalybridge and Margate seem to panic when more than 50 away fans turn up. We got kept back inside the ground at Nuneation for about 20 minutes for no reason, and at Margate we weren't allowed bottle tops in the ground, but we WERE allowed the actual bottles. Because people will throws the caps, but not the larger, heavier bottles, obviously.

So, the transfer window is officially open again! How underwhelming will it be this year!?

What I love is that I was in the pub last night as the year changed and the countdown came on the screen and everyone joined in "5...4...3...2...1!" Everyone was happy, wishing each other happy new years, then about 10 seconds you could hear on the TV "The window is now open and it looks like Roque Santa Cruz will be the highlight early on as Allardyce ponders whether to keep or sell the Paraguayan striker."

As soon as we hit 2009 we're into what Britain knows best.. football - commenting, criticising and predicted. I just loved how quickly it went from the New Years Party to the transfer window. Still.. you have to love the transfer window, for all the stick the managers give it... it's probably more exciting than most of the matches we see <_<

EDIT: This is semi the wrong topic I guess. I saw 1PW's last sentence and assumed it was the transfer thread. But at the same time it's kinda relevant if we just assume I'm replying to that..

The way Peter Beagrie was talking sounded like you were very average today.

I was shocked to see '...Doncaster 2' appear on the screen during the first half today. I havent seen such a scoreline since May, so when it then turned into '...Doncaster 3' and '...Doncaster 4' it seemed like christmas had come back again! A HUGE win today, we could be out of the drop zone on Sunday by merely drawing. Burnley's defeat at home to Barnsley will hopefully knock their confidence, specially with a silly own goal being the winner.

Average would be a massive improvement. We sounded better than that. I mean, Eddie Gray barely moaned, so we must have done something right; we only conceded to (what sounded like) a good goal and we looked decent defending set pieces. Sounded like we didn't create too much (the goal, a couple of dangerous crosses, Howson went close near the end, Becchio went close at one point and someone [Prutton?] hit the post), but I don't remember Leicester creating anything except the goal.

Haven't spoken to anyone who went yet, so all I'm going on is the radio but the fact we weren't 4-0 down with three goals from corners by half time is an improvement.

Just noticed this. We were average, nothing special at all but neither were Leicester. MK Dons and Peterborough looked much better than they did, and although our defence still looked shaky (big crowd probably didn't help) they weren't troubled too much. Ankergren had his moments of madness, but I think we'll get a keeper in during January, hopefully one who can organise a defence

And as for Hereford, I live in Worcestershire and Worcester City's game was called off today due to a frozen pitch. Cars keep icing over so wouldn't bet against it being called off

I actually thought that was standard practice... Happens at 90% of the grounds I've been to :P

That Leeds result was the only good one of the day yesterday!

I'm annoyed that our game was called off, but there was nothing we could do. The covers have been on since last Tuesday. If we win that game in hand though we are out of the relegation zone in theory, but then I'm sure the match won't go ahead until about April or something.

So, once again, Luton are doing things the hard way....

Well to be fair, Darlington are one of the best teams in that league.

Edit: Unless you're referring to something else.

Was a ridiculously entertaining, open game. I'm not exaggerating when I say a 10-5 scoreline would have been entirely possible. Luton always looked a threat going forward, they were just hopeless at the back, particularly from set pieces. Still, nice to see us being really clinical in front of goal, things are looking up for us now with Pawel Abbott now fit, getting a full 90 minutes today. Today we probably had our best 11 out, for the first time this season, and we were awesome. Plus we finally have some strength in depth, Seb Carole is a good option to have for the last 20 minutes to run at tired defences.

Things are looking up for Darlo. So expect Abbott to break a toenail and be out for six months, and us to go on a losing run >_<

If you go up, you should have to pay us some money for the services. :shifty:

Third straight win for us today, but things are looking bad for Southampton. The fans fought the stewards, then themselves, and some ran on the pitch at the final whistle. The last 20 minutes they spent by chanting 'We Want Rupert Lowe' whilst their side feebly lost at home to us.

Fixed. :shifty:

Nah, he can pop up with a good cross or two now and again, and League 2 is probably about his level, but he does have a tendancy to beat a man, turn around and beat them again, turn around and get tackled by them.

Hey just because we have your ex-manager and half our team is made up of Donny cast-offs :shifty:

Haha yeah I know what you mean, he does have a penchant for trying to take on the entire defence one by one instead of, you know, crossing the ball into the box. :P

EDIT: And I suppose if we are to take a smidgen of credit for Darlington's success, we owe a lot to Bournemouth, as we did basically the same thing with them as you did with us.
