There's been a pretty heavy blitz of marketing around it, I'm surprised you guys hadn't heard of it before. And why isn't it worth making a movie over? He's the most controversial president in modern history.

Yeah, I've heard about this for a while. And it...looks pretty intriguing, actually. I like the partisan approach that Stone seems to be taking here (I know, a big surprise from Stone after almost every movie he's ever made related to politics). And Brolin, of course, is awesome so I don't think I'll doubt the acting so much.

I'm just tired of the Bush hate(Not that I support him). And I seen a preview for it last night, that's the first I've heard of it.

That is fantastic, I've never heard anything about it until now. I totally love Elizabeth Banks, but I'm worried seeing her portray 61 year old Laura Bush will make getting any future boners for her quite difficult.

Zack and Miri make a Porno may cancel that out, and failing that, there's always the bath scene from 40 year old virgin (Y).

Also, from the trailers, this doesn't seem like a serious biopic, more a 'lets poke fun at how much of a doofus Bush is / was'.

But Bush is a doofus. He dances on the White House steps for the press when he's waiting for someone to arrive, he doesn't know what words mean, he choked on a pretzel, etc. It's part of who he is and it's partially what got him re-elected, he plays it up. Here's what Stone said about the movie:

I want a fair, true portrait of the man. How did Bush go from an alcoholic bum to the most powerful figure in the world? It's like Frank Capra territory on one hand, but I'll also cover the demons in his private life, his bouts with his dad and his conversion to Christianity, which explains a lot of where he is coming from. It includes his belief that God personally chose him to be president of the United States, and his coming into his own with the stunning, preemptive attack on Iraq. It will contain surprises for Bush supporters and his detractors.

And I guess he eats A LOT. Brolin supposedly ate 15 sandwiches in one scene to get that point across that Bush can't not doing anything without eating. Which would probably explain his pretzel accident.

And as far as the movie and why they're making it goes, why not? I mean at least it's semi-original instead of a remake of some foreign film or a film that everybody loves from the 70's. Plus Bush's stupidity lends it's hand to quite a bit of comedic situations.

Plus Josh Brolin has seemingly nailed it as Bush.

I really liked it, but then I'm a political nerd so this stuff intrigues me. As a proud Republican and as someone who voted for the President in 2004, I'd say this was a very fair and balanced film based on who made it. The key is that you know you gotta everything with a grain of salt as Stone has admitted most of the dialouge and some of the scenes are creative license.

Josh Brolin does a tremendous job as the President. Also, James Cromwell knocked one of the park with as his potray as George H.W. and those two nailed the tension of the father-son relation. Basically, W has spent his entire adult competing for his father's love and also to outshine Jeb.

Jeffrey Wright played a great Colin Powell and the movie basically potrays Powell as a relative dove compared to the Hawkish nature of Vice President Cheney and former Defense Secretary. The point with Iraq is that W let his personal animosity towards Hussein and his drive to outdo his father cloud his judgment and the hawks in the adminstration (I.E., the Vice President and Rummy) maniuplated that into going to war. All the while, Powell and George Tenet were saying what a crappy idea it was but they weren't strong enough personalities to overtake the administration.

I really wanted to like it because I like Oliver Stone and the acting all around was fantastic...but I hated it. It was just so cookie cutter, really. The behind the scenes stuff like the whole planning to attack Iraq stuff was great but the back story of Bush was just boring and uninteresting.
