I have a guilty electropop pleasure that goes back about 10 years now to when "electroclash" flapped around for a bit thanks to Peaches, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEXoCcxwH4Y, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cV8MnGpn6v0, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UB6w_HQje8E,

and more broadly and awesomely http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlCjRuo8ayM,
and

Even

at her highest point was being remixed by Fischerspooner.

Then joy of joys Royksopp

(2)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfckrfOYAy4, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKhjaGRhIYU, Robots In Disguise, more
and Goldfrapp and Goldfrapp again :shifty:.

Now some young whippersnappers are boogying around but are any of them any good?

My personal conclusion is....

is pretty good.

La Roux - nah. (wait a second, did I see those lines in the Ladytron video?!)

Lady GaGa - just nonono.

The end.

(I'm probably wrong though...)

There's no multiple choice, so while I probably would have voted La Roux and GaGa, I had to vote for my true love <3.

Also, I wouldn't say all of GaGa's songs are Electropop. I'd say that the "well known" ones are, but Eh Eh, for example, is anything but electro. La Roux is more consistent, and maybe that's why I love the album...and I've not heard any of Little Boots' stuff, so, meh.

La Roux I find a bit dull. "In For The Kill" has grown on me, but I'm not really into her...the best thing about her is that she's June Ackland from the Bill's daughter...I also like the fact I refer to 'her' as La Roux, when it's actually two of them...when people refer to Jay Kay as Jamiroquai it pisses me off so much...shows how little I care about her/them. :shifty:

GaGa is annoying as fuck and dresses like she has downs syndrome.

Little Boots is basically "Lidl value Goldfrapp" but really awesome.

Ladyhawke is pretty good, but the vast majority of her songs sound so ripped off from other places.

Annie I'd class with the last 'wave' of Royksopp/The Knife etc. Although she's got a 2nd album due soon, about fucking time.

There's also Frankmusik whose album drops soon. Listening to demo's/rips of the songs, the album seems like it's going to suffer from too many slow tunes but "3 Little Words" was one of my favourite songs/videos of last year - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPQQMsbcAYg - OUTSTANDING!

In America especially, I see Owl City getting pretty fucking big this year, now he's signed to Universal. He's already got a MASSIVE cult following from his self-released debut (he's got the Christians on his side <ahttp://www.ewbattleground.com/uploads/emoticons/default_shifty.gif' alt=':shifty:'>)...seriously some of the happiest music in the world. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6OQFnUrbW8 / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS41xJKN_IA - I always described his first album like The Postal Service if they'd stayed up all night eating sweets, the new album's like The Postal Service meets Vengaboys meets The Coral meets the soundtrack from The Sims.

Lights is an absolutely adorable Canadian girl. She released her debut EP last year, sugar coated, catchy as hell electro-pop. She's gained quite a bit of notoriety in Canada for her music being used on some advertising campaign. She's got quite a following over here in the 'alternative' scene (partly helped to her cameos on a couple of pop-punk records and on the recent album of long established post-hardcore act Silverstein), she headlined the "Give It A Name Introduces..." tour over a metalcore, rap/punk and female fronted rock/emo band...in what was the strangest genre meshing gig I've ever been too...but don't let that put you off, this is pop music (quite often at its cheesiest). Her debut album's coming soon, she did a few songs when I saw her live, the song I'm linking to was actually my least favourite of the new songs, but its the only one that's surfaced as of yet. Also helps she's cute as a button and seems to have a penchant for writing lyrics about getting on her knees. <ahttp://www.ewbattleground.com/uploads/emoticons/default_shifty.gif' alt=':shifty:'>

Passion Pit were touted at the start of the year to be one of the breakout bands. I'd heard "Sleepyhead" and while thinking it to be a pretty great MGMT style tune, I thought the album would be very much like that, one or two good songs and a shitload of filler. BOY WAS I WRONG! "Manners" is hands down one of the albums of the year, and in my opinion has the potential and quality to be an even greater 'crossover' style album than "Discovery" by Daft Punk. Outstanding release. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBt9sxTailQ /

And while not particularly an electro-pop act, I'll mention her cos she's amazing and fits with the 'quirky bird singer' set by the 3 artists mentioned at the opening of the thread...Marina & The Diamonds, awesome -

So out of those three, I'd go with Little Boots, easily. As far as album comparisons...as far as electro-POP (ignoring Passion Pit who aren't really a 'pop' band) goes, I think Owl City (mainly on the strength of his first album) edges her, but I think I prefer Boots to Owl City's 2009 offering. But I think Lights has the potential to blow them both out of the water.

Miss Kittin is epic, been a fan ever since that awesome song she guested on for Goldenboy used to be on 120-minutes on MTV2 all the time, like half a decade ago. Her new album with The Hacker is really good.

Still one of my favourite tunes ever. Shame she's not that pretty anymore. :shifty:

Also, I'd kick myself without mentioning Styrofoam. Always a bit of a cult lo-fi artist (did an amazing track with Ben Gibbard post-Postal Service, which is my absolute favourite song, EVER), his latest album he totally changed style, from 'depressing' lo-fi, to real upbeat electro-pop, made the transition perfectly. Been on tour with Jimmy Eat World and Death Cab last year, is already at work on a new album, and is more 'popular' than he's ever been.

(doesn't do it on this video, but when I saw them live the girl went up on the last harmony in the chorus...spine tingling, like my whole body felt it...was unreal)

Weird weird moment.

Just switched over to MTV Japan where "Lose You" by Peaches was just starting. First time I'd seen anything like it on MTV. Most they normally do foreign-wise is the US top 20.

Just strange to see Peaches on TV the day after I mentioned how I used to listen to her stuff 10 years ago....

I had never hard of La Roux until reading this thread. Needless to say, I was fucking pleasantly surprised. I wish I had known about these guys earlier... so fucking good.

Peaches new CD is actually more in line with Simian Mobile Disco (they produced 2 or 3 tracks) and Soulwax (ditto) than her older stuff. Less sexual, less aggressive and yet still so very Peaches. One of the best albums of the year in my view.

Ugh to La Roux, the woman is the type of person you almost wish to get punched in the face out of nowhere. 'In For The Kill' I thought was sheer horrendous and I never understood why it actually got so far up the charts. Just cant stand her voice.

GaGa on the other hand is a yes. Not a huge fan or anything, but she knows how to be pretty damn awesome at times. 'Poker Face' and 'Just Dance' were both great records and just something different to what was going on at that time. She's so weird that it somehow becomes 'cool'.

La Roux is alright. Her album is a good enough listen and the other singles besides from In For The Kill - Bulletproof and Quicksand are pretty good. I just don't like In For The Kill and I hated her while that song was getting played.

I heard Quicksand ages ago and actually really liked it but I didn't have any idea who did it at the time.
