So, I finished my first "Podcast" today. Dodgy mic, so the quality's not perfect, but my voice isn't the important bit. It's just lots of good songs.

It's by a singer called Gogoosh, and it's taken from a new compilation of Iranian psych and garage rock. I wish I was making that up. Oh, and it's a cover of "Respect" by Otis Redding.

I'm a bigtime Wave Pictures fan, so maybe I'm a little biased, but I love it, though the track on the podcast is probably the best thing on the album.

You'd be surprised at how many different psychedelic compilations there are from various countries. I have two that are excellent, one being from Portugal and the other being from Turkey. The Turkish Psych is amazing, Erkin Koray is one of the better known artists on it and most of his work is great. Some of his work is available through bomp records actually. The Turkish one is titled something along the lines of 26 Turkish Psychedelic Rarities, and the I think the Portuguese album is simply called Portuguese nuggets. I am intrigued by the Iranian psych and garage rock you mentioned.

Oh, I know there's a shitload of "Nuggets" style compilations from all over the place, just Iran seems a little less likely, considering all the political upheaval and all. Though I guess one or two subversive records are bound to slip through the net, I'm just kind of surprised to be honest.
