How the fuck did this game get such rave reviews?

I bought it for cheap, and I'm so glad I didn't pay £40 for it. Button bashing? Check. Ridiculously long cut scenes? Check. Female protagonist who's basically some 13 year old boy's projection of a woman? Check. Male protagonist who's a 13 year old boy's projection of a man? Check.

I got to the third chapter and I just... I can't play any more today. Does it get any better? Right now I feel like I want to trade it in already

It seriously doesn't get any better. The misery I put up with when that game first came out... friends who bought it trying to get me to play it, showing me the gameplay, and unable to comprehend why I was so utterly unimpressed.

I played it once because a friend bought it and it is indeed horrible.

Not awful. Not super great. I didn't mind it, it's essentially DMC and I like the DMC games.

I like DMC as well, that's why I was confused when I didn't like this.

It's a little off-putting, the immaturity of it. I hadn't played DMC before though, so I didn't have that to compare it to. I had a lot of mindless fun button-mashing in my first experience with that type of gameplay.
