Avril Lavigne is a marketing prop pure and simple. I don't care how honest she claims to be, or how many of her songs she "plays" (I use inverted commas because she looks so uncomfortable with a guitar) she is just used to tap into the teenage girl angst market - the people who think she's alternative so paint their nails black and put on some baggy black cargo pants they bought from Topshop or someother highstreet big name shop. I have nothing against pop, I just hate this ambiguous pop - the way people like Lavigne and Busted can look down on other pop artists because they "play" their own music and are therefore more talented. Alanis Morisette did the angst thing, and did it well, no one else comes close.

BTW, this just may be the self involved musician in me with too much time on his hands during the day in the holidays but at the end of the Happy Ending video, Lavigne clearly doesn't change chords like the song does - infact she skips the slide...
