Im looking for a Comprehensive list of American sports teams that have moved cities. Doesnt matter what sport; Baseball, Basket Ball and Football all needed. its simply for general knowledge, and Google doesnt help much.

Anyone know of any websites or places on the net which would list such moves?

Basketball...just for spelling it Basket Ball im not helping.

L.A. Raiders --------> Oakland Raiders (Football)

Charlotte Hornets --------> New Orleans Hornets (Basketball)

Minneapolis Lakers --------> L.A. Lakers (Basketball)

Regarding basketball, the Utah Jazz were originally in New Orleans. Hence the Jazz nickname that makes no sense.

Baseball:

Milwaukee Brewers - Their first year of existence, they were in Seattle, and were called the Seattle Pilots. (Yes, they moved after only one year!!!)

Minnesota Twins - The Minnesota Twins were originally the Washington Senators. In the 1960 or 61, they moved, and a new Washington Senators franchise debuted.

Texas Rangers - The second Washington Senators team. Moved sometime in the early `70's.

Football:

Besides the Raiders....

Arizona Cardinals were originally in Chicago (yes, Chicago had two football teams at one point), then moved to St. Louis, then to Arizona.

The Kansas City Chiefs were originally called the Dallas Texans, iirc. Think they moved after only 1 or 2 years.

The Indianapolis Colts were originally in Baltimore.

The St. Louis Rams moved from Cleveland, Ohio to St, Louis, Missouri, then to Los Angeles, California.

The Baltimore Ravens are technically the REAL Cleveland Browns franchise. They made an agreement that let Cleveland get a new franchise when they moved, and the current Browns are actually an expansion team that just has the same exact name and uniforms. Some people look at the Ravens as an expansion team that just had the same owner as the Browns. Other see the Browns as the expansion team. Me? I don't care either way.

The Houston Oilers moved to Nashville, Tennessee, then became the Tennessee Titans a season or two later. (iirc, they actually played some of their early home games in Memphis, splitting time between there and Nashville while their stadium was being built)

Incidentally, Titans was either the nickname of a New York team that proceeded the Jets, or the original name of the Jets. I'm not sure which, but either the team or the nickname only lasted a few years.

Just to be pedantic, they were the Oakland Raiders, THEN they became the L.A. Raiders, THEN they moved back to Oakland.

EDIT: Oh, and the Chicago bears used to be the Decauter(sp?) Staleys. I have no idea where Decauter is. St. Louis Rams moved from Los Angeles.

Those are all football. i'm not much of a baseball fan, but I knwo the LA Dodgers used to be the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Baltimore Orioles move to New York after one season (1901) and become Mountaineers (I think?).  Then the team renames itself the Yankees.

It was the Highlanders.

And in case you want hockey:

Atlanta Flames became the Calgary Flames, the New Jersey Devils used to be the Kansas City Scouts, who were earlier the Colorado Rockies. The California Golden Seals became another team which I can't remember right now.

Golden Seals moved to Cleveland and became the Barons in 1976. They then merged with the Minnesota North Stars (Not sure how) in 1978.

I absolutely love these two sites, they'll have everything you need to know about stats, players, teams, and yes team's that have changed cities. These sites are fun to browse if your bored, and feel like checking the stats of any player in the NFL or NBA that ever played. Well, the NFL reference site only goes back to the 1950's, but eventually it'll be completed.

Well, the NFL reference site only goes back to the 1950's, but eventually it'll be completed.

And also, there was a major league team in Providence back in the 1800s. Did it disband or something?

There were a ton of early major league teams that disbanded. http://www.baseball-reference.com for info on them.

As for Ruby Leg... they wore Ruby stockings. The Reds used to go by Redlegs.
