23. Glean by They Might Be Giants (2015)
24. Long Distance by Ivy (2001)

Ivy's another band where I initially became an online radio site determined I'd like them via algorithm. AND THAT AUTOMATED SYSTEM WAS CORRECT. I loooooove downtempo chillout shit, and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FZcC5jh7XQ'>"Undertow" is pretty unimpeachable on that front. So I bought this album years later on the strength of it being The Undertow Album, only to realize that actually I know like 80% of it already due to the fact that I like to listen to online radio stations that play mostly chill music (such as Ivy or Sneaker Pimps). So when I actually listened to this start-to-finish, it ended up being a whole lot of "wait, shit, I know this song. This was Ivy too? What the fuck."

So yeah. This is really good, and worth listening to especially during the summertime. It's very warm and soothing, perfect for taking a nap out in the sun which is pretty much exactly what I'm doing in like half an hour. Check it.

Best Track:
isn't a new song to me per se, but since I had to flip through the tracks to find the title so I'm counting it. It's really nice. Great chorus.

25. This Is the Sonics by The Sonics (2015)

Sweet mother of fuck, it's 2015 and I'm listening to a brand-new Sonics record. Life is good. For those who don't know, The Sonics were one of the original garage rock bands out of the Pacific Northwest, melting faces off in the early-to-mid '60s. They got back together after decades apart a few years ago, and after touring extensively this is their first album in FIFTY FUCKING YEARS. And it's really good! The production is a little slicker (they got the guy who did the White Stripes' first album for this, which was a damn good choice), and the only place where you can really tell their age is the singing, and that's not a bad thing. There are a lot of great revival acts doing the kind of music The Sonics pioneered (The Jim Jones Revue, for example), but getting to hear the men themselves not having lost a step even though their in their fucking seventies is almost life-affirming.

Best Track: The album is a mix of covers and originals, so I'll pick one of each. Best cover? "You Can't Judge a Book By the Cover". Best original? "Save the Planet," a song about how Earth must be saved because you can't get drunk on Mars. Yessssssssss.

206. Angelic Upstarts - Teenage Warning
207. Adolescents - Adolescents
208. Slaughter and the Dogs - Bite Back
209. Of Monsters and Men - Beneath the Skin
Slaves had a decent debut. I liked a couple of their songs before the album was released but their singles are the better part of the album. I liked "Cheer Up London", "Despair and Traffic", "Wow!!!7AM", "Live Like an Animal", "Feed the Mantaray" and "Sugar Coated Bitter Truth".
The Angelic Upstarts were great punk music, have to listen to more of their stuff. "Teenage Warning", "Student Power", "Young Ones", "Never Again", "I'm an Upstart". "Youth Leader" and "Let's Speed" were the picks.
Adolescents get the same praise as well. "Wrecking Crew", "LA Girl", "Self-Destruct", "Kids of the Black Hole". "Amoeba" and "Rip It Up" were good.
and again with Slaughter, "What's Wrong Boy?", "She Ain't Gonna Show", "Hell in New York", "Crashing Out with Lucy", "Allover Now", and "Don't Wanna Die" to be the best of the album.
While I enjoyed Of Monsters and Men's previous album, I didn't feel it for this one. There were too many tracks that never hit a mark or petered out when something promising was coming. Mind you, "Crystals", "Humans", "Wolves Without Teeth" and "We Sink" had to be the picks.

26. On the Strength of All Convinced by Daphne Loves Derby (2005)

"Daphne Loves Derby" is like the most twee, sensitive indie rock band name, isn't it? Which is fitting, because that's exactly what this band is. Like, when I saw the date they formed (2001) and where they're from (half an hour out of Seattle), it all made sense; the music is part-emo, part-Death Cab. And none of that's a bad thing, especially for me since I grew up hearing tons of bands like this being touted as The Next Big Thing Out of Seattle. I got this album off the strength of "Pollen and Salt," but the whole thing is just very pleasant. Sometimes they speed things up and the songs are more uptempo, but even then it's a really mellow sort of uptempo? Like it should be on a Canadian teen show or something. Not a lot of standout tracks, but an album that would be good in the background while at work.

Best Track: Aside from "Pollen and Salt," I like "Sundays" a lot.

confession: I have never, ever, ever been able to truly get into Bob Dylan. I think a big part of it is his voice? It works like gangbusters in some songs, but then in others he turns into a cartoon beaver that works in a coal mine. It's sort of like that here. GoGo Yubari Attempt to Get Into Dylan 2K15 was this album, which starts off as a pretty rapid-fire assault of the classics ("Blowin' in the Wind," "Masters of War") but for me slides inexorably into songs that are basically four minutes of improvised, pithy lines over a blues riff. And stuff like "Talkin' World War III Blues" is clever but I still don't need to listen to it again, and in part I think it's just because I just find Dylan's voice to be so distractingly silly. It's not fair. Why must your voice be so silly, visionary folk singer man? So silly. I get that it's folk, but even by folk standards, silly.

The silliest.

Next album.

Best Track: "Girl From the North Country" is actually a perfect match of voice and song. Very simple, evokes a really nice feeling of longing.
