This is All Yours was quite good, certainly see why the band has a following. Cage the Elephant have a great sound on this album, except for the Indy Kidz song. Indy Kidz is just awful. La La Land is my favourite of the grouping, some quality songs there and well worth listening to again. I am fond of Royal Blood because they're just a bassist and a drummer, it is something unique. I thought the album itself was decent, nothing spectacular. One or two good songs there.

10. The Bones of What you Believe by Chvrches- 1-8 were already albums/artists I've already heard and 9-10 were recommended to me. So really, this is the first proper new stuff I've gone out and listened to. And OMG is it good! I really like the Scottish accent in a song and combined with some proper catchy synthpop, this is immediately one of the best albums I've heard in a while. Might have to pick it up on vinyl if I can. "The Mother we Share" and "By the Throat" are particular highlights.

10. Blues Pills - S/T
11. Elle Milano - Acres of Dead Space Cadets
12. Radio Moscow - Magical Dirt
In the mood for some heavyish guitars today. The Elle milano album is one of my favourites of all time; discovered them at 16, the album came out when I was 17 and they disappeared into the night. Great youthful energy fed through some great, hook-laden tunes. Blues Pills are a blues/hard rock band with a really great female vocalist whose high notes don't devolve into unlistenable nonsense like a lot of male rock singers do. The band behind her are ridiculously tight too. The whole thing is lifted straight from 1971 but it's still a good listen if you like that sound. The Radio Moscow album is more of the same from them and is similar to Blues Pills. Psych rock with a bit more of a stoner rock lean to it. Not essential though, if you want to get into them, go with Brain Cycles.

  1. Inside Llewyn Davis OST
  2. The Killers - Direct Hits
  3. Green Day - Bullet in a Bible
  4. Pet Shop Boys - Yes
  5. Ray Charles - Genius Loves Company
  6. Taylor Swift - Speak Now

I was using my girlfriend's car and her sister wanted to listen to this, so I'm putting it on because I had to suffer through some pretty dumb lyrics, especially for this song called Speak Now, for which I've just read the Wikipedia entry for and now I feel tainted.

20. Weezer - Everything Will Be All Right in the End
Hozier was just brilliant, didn't even know that he charted quite well in the UK. One to listen to again and again. Playland was dull, not worth another listen. Weezer had some cracking tunes, but then a couple of mishits led it down. Decent all together.

13. 'Run The Jewels' by Run The Jewels (10th October 2014)

14. 'Warrior's Code' by Dropkick Murphys (10th October 2014)

15. 'Kind of Blue' by Miles Davis (11th October 2014)

Decided to try Dropkick Murphys on the back of my enjoyment for 'Shipping Up To Boston'. It was okay, but nothing lived up to SUPB. Had a few good tracks on 'Warrior's Code', 'The Walking Dead' and 'The Green Fields of France', but not sure how likely they are to hit regular rotation.

Miles Davis was based on it being highly rated on Metacritic. Whilst listening to it I read a review that said if I didn't like this album then I probably don't like jazz music, so I guess I'm pretty "meh" about jazz music. It was okay as background music, but didn't do anything for me.

11. Plastic Beach by Gorillaz- I'm not sure why, but I didn't really like this. None of the songs were inherently bad, in fact I quite liked "Rhinestone Eyes," but it didn't feel like they came together as an album well.

26. 'Nightmare' by Avenged Sevenfold - Really liked this, will serve as a great memorial to The Rev. However, I never understood the love for his supposed 'masterpiece', Fiction. One of two weak points on an otherwise extremely good album (the other being Tonight The World Dies).

27. 'Hail to the King' by Avenged Sevenfold - It's been an Avenged evening, if this didn't make that obvious. Shepherd of Fire, Hail to the King, and Doing Time are a great opening three, but it stays strong throughout. Bonus track 'St. James', another subtle Rev tribute, is worth a listen if you can find it.

1) Perfume Genius 'Too Bright' - Interesting, not my usual cup of tea but his voice and the sparse use of instruments add up to a worthwhile listen.

I'd also not been aware that I'd heard one of his songs on the radio the other day, so that was a surprise.

Using Metacritic initially to get my first lot of albums to listen to.

2) Earth 'Primitive and Deadly' - Brilliant. Love the use of Mark Lanegan and a couple of other guest vocalists to just add an extra layer. Dark, but beautiful.

3) Jack Johnson 'From Here To Now To You' - checked this out after I saw Benji had listened to it. Like some Jack Johnson, but haven't listened to him in years. Interesting, more up tempo music that I really enjoyed.

4) Anthony and The Johnsons 'I Am A Bird Now' - this was perfectly fine, though not as good as I might have expected. 'Hope There's Someone' is still a killer song though.

5) Elliot Smith 'XO' - liked what I heard. Was busy marking so it was mostly being used as background music.

6) Mariachi El Bronx 'Mariachi El Bronx' - Just really fun. Always heard good things, but was skeptical heading in. Well worth a look.

7) Mariachi El Bronx 'Mariachi El Bronx (II)' - More of the same, just better.

8) The New Pornographers 'Brill Bruisers' - Was listening on the underground so was occasionally drowned out - what I heard was good. Catchy, fun pop.

9) The Bug 'Angels and Devils' - Felt the first half was better than the second half, but that is because the initial few songs appeal to my tastes much more.

I've part listened to a couple of albums as well, so will finish them off at some point.
