Only got in 1 album as I was at the doctor's for most of the day. I've heard of Flying Lotus due to his Captain Murphy alias, but first time listening to his music. Production was a breath of fresh air and I loved the MF DOOM-esque way of packing lots of really short tracks. Hoping to get a straight-through listen of this without any pauses/interruptions to really immerse myself in it. Brilliant album, overall.

21. 'The Marshall Mathers LP2' by Eminem (14th October 2014)

Continuing/finishing my Eminem catch-up with MMLP2. I was really sceptical about this album going in, I thought there was no way he'd manage to match the amazing work he did with the original MMLP, but holy hell he did it. This album is just amazing, it wasn't just a good load of songs, it was a great load of songs with some good ones sprinkled in. From start to finish it feels like his most intimate work yet, and looks into not only where he is right now, but the last fifteen plus years of growth he's made as a rapper and as a person. I won't even name the highlight songs because it'd honestly be quicker just to name the ones that weren't great.

16. Lower Than Atlantis (self-titled)- I was looking forward to this after hearing the singles "Here we Go," "Emily" and "English Kids in America," but as far as the whole album goes, it's just pretty average. Which is a shame because it does have good singles.

17. Love Letters by Metronomy- First listened to this a while back and kinda liked it. Then saw them on TV at Glasto and was a bit put off. Managed to catch the end of their Reading set before the Courteeners came on and they were brilliant. Still a good album and sounded just as good live; "Reservoir" and "The Upsetter" are my personal favourites.

My first Shabazz Palaces album and I enjoyed it well enough. A nice jazzy feel to the production and the kind of laid-back hip-hop I'm enjoying a lot of atm. The Lee Fields album is great though. A really enjoyable, smooth soul album with some lovely playing from The Expressions. they've rocketed up my "to-see" list because I'd love to watch them play live.

18. Falcon by The Courteeners- Not as good as their other three albums, but its still quite good. It's kind of like Panic!'s "Pretty. Odd" in that regard. "Sycophant" and "Take Over the World" are particular highlights.

19. The Balcony by Catfish and the Bottlemen- Again, saw them at Reading and liked them. Some good songs, some average songs, but solid on the whole. Really really like "Fallout."

So, I got Spotify today, hence the four albums. I'm really enjoying this and now I can possibly branch out to listening to more than just stuff I heard at Reading. Some old Cobra Starship is definitely on the agenda (loads of their songs aren't on youtube so this is ideal).

Whilst the Black Keys are quite samey, and Magic Potion certainly is, I love songs like The Flame and You're the One. I will give a listen to Rubber Factory, probably my first or second favourite Black Keys album. BBC was brilliant, if they were to mix this style with the back-up vocals of Rae Morris like on the latest album, then it would be perfect. Vaccines was just a quick album to power through, some fun tunes but it didn't blow me away. Supermodel was really good, a lot of great tracks such as the opener, Best Friend and Nevermind.

22. 'Tré!' by Green Day (15th October 2014)

23. 'Call Your Friends' by Zebrahead (16th October 2014)

Finishing Green Day's trio of albums, Tré was samey to the first two and not a whole lot stood out. 'Dirty Rotten Bastards' was probably the best track on a middling album.

I like Zebrahead individual songs but I've never listened to a full album. It was standard pop-punk fare and certainly didn't have their best songs, but 'Call Your Friends' and 'Murder On The Airwaves' were solid tracks.

1) Perfume Genius 'Too Bright' - Interesting, not my usual cup of tea but his voice and the sparse use of instruments add up to a worthwhile listen.

I'd also not been aware that I'd heard one of his songs on the radio the other day, so that was a surprise.

Using Metacritic initially to get my first lot of albums to listen to.

2) Earth 'Primitive and Deadly' - Brilliant. Love the use of Mark Lanegan and a couple of other guest vocalists to just add an extra layer. Dark, but beautiful.

3) Jack Johnson 'From Here To Now To You' - checked this out after I saw Benji had listened to it. Like some Jack Johnson, but haven't listened to him in years. Interesting, more up tempo music that I really enjoyed.

4) Anthony and The Johnsons 'I Am A Bird Now' - this was perfectly fine, though not as good as I might have expected. 'Hope There's Someone' is still a killer song though.

5) Elliot Smith 'XO' - liked what I heard. Was busy marking so it was mostly being used as background music.

6) Mariachi El Bronx 'Mariachi El Bronx' - Just really fun. Always heard good things, but was skeptical heading in. Well worth a look.

7) Mariachi El Bronx 'Mariachi El Bronx (II)' - More of the same, just better.

8) The New Pornographers 'Brill Bruisers' - Was listening on the underground so was occasionally drowned out - what I heard was good. Catchy, fun pop.

9) The Bug 'Angels and Devils' - Felt the first half was better than the second half, but that is because the initial few songs appeal to my tastes much more.

I've part listened to a couple of albums as well, so will finish them off at some point.

10) Brand New 'Deja Entendu' - so much better than I expected. Hadn't fancied it when it first came out, but just much more versatile than I imagined

11) DFA 1979 'The Physical World' - liked their debut stuff, and this is more of the same. Some good, raucous electro-rock and roll.

12) Flying Lotus 'You're Dead' - a little bit mixed, wasn't sure what to expect and it hit the right spots in some areas. Quite unsure in general how I feel overall - worth a look I guess

25. The Cars - The Cars
26. Arctic Monkeys - AM
Been one of those days today. Weezer's new album is shockingly good from a band who have been shockingly bad for 10 years+ at this point. A return to the hook filled songs that they're good at. St. Paul is more soul but I'm not sure it's worthy of the praise it's getting, though the band are excellent, the songs just don't seem to be so strong to me. Joyce Manor is a glorified EP (10 tracks, 19 minutes) and it's alright; punkish pop with a bit of an emo slant to the guitars. Not for me but you might like it if you're into that thing. The Cars' debut is very much a perfect album and a true exercise in pop songwriting; what makes it great is how restless the arrangements are. No member can go a minute without switching things up slightly, throwing little accents and flourishes in that build everything and are their own little hooks. And, AM is Alex Turner's tightest songwriting and the first album where it all feels completely effortless. Ditching the verbose lyrics was a good idea and everything is wrapped up in lush production and spot-on playing. It's an album I'd tell you to listen to, even if you've hated their previous stuff.

3. Ariana Grande - My Everything. :(N): Good voice, everything else mediocre.

4. Lorde - Pure Heroine. :(Y): I felt old listening to her, but I'd tell my niece to listen to her.

5. U2 - Songs of Innocence. :(N): uninspired, going through the motions.

6. Ty Segall - Manipulator. :(Y): The guy sounds like he has is having lots of fun.

7. Johnny Marr - Playland. :(N): Great guitars, everything else was meh.

8. The 2 Bears - The Night is Young :(Y): Fun, sexy, light hearted dance music.

22. Wake Up by Youngblood Hawke- One of my favourite albums, well worth a listen to.

23. Vices and Virtues by Panic! at the Disco- My favourite Panic! album I think, got "The Ballad of Mona Lisa" and "Memories" on it.

24. Pretty. Odd. by Panic! at the Disco- From favourite to least favourite. "Nine in the Afternoon" is one of their best songs and I love it, but on the whole it's not the best album.

25. The After Party by Ghost Town- I like it, it's probably not the best to listen to if you need cheering up though. Luckily I don't particularly need cheering up right now so I enjoyed it!

26. Dookie by Green Day- Probably their second most famous album after American Idiot. Not much to say, can't believe it's 20 years old though. Madness.

It is so weird to think Dookie is 20 years old. That album (and the other pop-punk albums from the mid to late 90s) basically defined who I was for ten years. Kind of surreal.

35. 'Ten Thousand Fists' by Disturbed - I put 'full album' into the search bar on YouTube and this came up. Remember liking one or two songs a few years ago, so gave it a listen. Still very good, especially their cover of Lands of Confusion.

Just stick to the singles for Passive You, Aggressive Me. Honestly, I couldn't get into Channel Orange as an album on the whole. I really enjoyed two or three tracks but there were some instances in which the album really didn't hold my interest. Maybe it'll grow on me after a few listens. Born to Die had a dull middle, but it really picked up towards the end. Pretty good album.

Vices and Virtues is your favourite Panic! album? Crazy, haven't heard many people that like it. I personally hate "The Ballad of Mona Lisa", it's probably the worst single Panic! have. Pretty. Odd. is terrible too, though, only good thing on it is the Green Gentleman, which I love so damn much. A Fever You Can't Sweat Out is still their best album, though. So many good songs on it.
