I have polled the cells of my body. And there were a few voting irregularities. Hence the delay. But finally we reached a tally of 52% to 48%. It’s tight, but a decisive margin. Do I want France to win twice in a row? No. Do I want England to win? No. But tonight I suppose I’ll be supporting England I guess 😫

I didn’t really care at first but I was in a pub full of really anti-social Dutch people throwing beer and shouting and jumping on people so I really just wanted the outcome that would shut them up. And let me tell you - those Dutch tears were very sweet.

Now she is saying that the "European football is boring as fuck" and that Europeans don't understand what football is about and that the South American sides should just play with themselves. My Brazilian flatmate is not taking this well. Her general argument seems to be that Croatia playing defensively is basically cheating and shouldn’t be allowed.

Eh I don’t really mind them. I’ve not bothered watching most of them. It was an interesting novelty first time round but I like watching races for the strategy and the sprint race does away with that by definition.

I’d have a bit more compassion for Germany if the thing they were being mocked for wasn’t already an empty gesture which they resorted to because FIFA banned them from making another empty gesture. There’s just too much football. I know I’m like a broken record here: Scotland would be more likely to qualify for a 48 team World Cup but that wouldn’t make me any more in favour of a 48 team World Cup. Increasing the size by 50% makes the World Cup less exclusive and the exclusivity is one of the things that makes qualifying for the World Cup special.

England seem to be picking up a bit of a habit of losing 0-0 in the second game of major tournaments.

One thing I’ll give Matterface was when he told Lee Dixon he played in an Arsenal team where “patience is key” I thought it was a nice euphemism in place of “you played in possibly the most boring team in history”.
