  1. I haven't read them in years, but I seem to remember not liking The Magician's Nephew, and I can't even remember Horse & His Boy. I only really remember The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe and The Last Battle, to be honest.
  2. Thank God for that, I was expecting this to be a really naff album when I first heard about it, with a load of early tracks from the more mainstream grunge bands, with the most legitimate "birth of grunge" tracks being from Mudhoney or, at a long shot, The Melvins, so I'm very glad that this actually looks like it could be a quality album. To be honest, I'd get it just for Babes In Toyland, Treepeople and 7 Year Bitch, the rest is a bonus, though. Some Meat Puppets and Vaselines tracks would have been nice, though.
  3. I know it's tantamount to blasphemy to prefer the later Misfits stuff, but it's just better. It's more over-the-top corny and just plain fun and interesting rock and roll, and Saturday Night is a class tune, I love it. A lot of the earlier stuff is good, but some of it's just dull in comparison. Graves every time.
  4. For modern jazz, try Acoustic Ladyland, for traditional jazz, you can't go wrong with Miles Davis, especially "So What?". Get hold of as much John Zorn as possible, too, everything he touches is gold. Blues? Try Billie Holliday if you haven't already, she's a goddess.
  5. The Lucksmiths' entire back catalogue.
  6. Crikey, how didn't I consider Alan Davies? He can be my third choice.
  7. Eddie Izzard needs to be the Doctor at some point. Apparently he was approached, but either turned it down or wasn't available. I think he'd be perfect for the role. I'd also like to see Noel Fielding play him, but more just to amuse me than for any legitimate reason. As for this episode, I wasn't too impressed, I haven't really enjoyed any of the "new" Doctor Who so far, but at least they are creating new enemies instead of just murdering the credibility of the old ones. David Tennant was a load of wank.

    Looking For

I didn't mean for that to come across as flamebaiting at all, just expressing my opinion. Vertical Horizon are part of that unique American brand of pop-rock that always ends up sounding like the soundtrack to some cancelled sitcom, and lacking in any and all originality or interest.
  9. You're lucky, I had my mate going on about how illogical it was that they'd made the beavers archers in the last battle, and how they'd get next-to-no trajectory. That said, we also spent the whole film cracking paedophile jokes, ranting about how emo Mr. Tumnus was, and every time the centaur was on-screen going "Alright, love, wanna know why they call me horse? That's right.....'cos of the legs".

Except that Vertical Horizon are shite, almost at Lifehouse levels of shite, in fact.
  11. I absolutely loved it, I thought it was the best book-to-film adaptation I've seen in years, and better than LOTR, but I always preferred Narnia to Middle-Earth anyway. Cockney geezer beaver > any character in LOTR
  12. Off the top of my head, and in no particular order: Art Brut - Emily Kane Antony & The Johnsons - Fistful Of Love The Boy Least Likely To - Papercuts Andrew Bird - Fake Palindromes Arctic Monkeys - Fake Tales Of San Francisco Rufus Wainwright - Gay Messiah The Mars Volta - The Widow Safety Scissors - Where Is Germany And How Do I Get There The Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies) Maximo Park - Apply Some Pressure
  13. Damien Dempsey - "Jar Song". Wonderful.

    Christmas Songs

That video's been on VH1 constantly for the past few weeks, it's driving me insane. David Bowie describing the kind of music he sings as "contemporary", which is the most vague description ever, and what is possibly the dullest conversation in human history.

The Antony & George version is probably difficult to find, it's on the last War Child charity CD, the Antony and George in question are Antony Hegarty of Antony & The Jonsons and Boy George.

If you must play War Is Over, play the Antony & George version. Also, Let Me Sleep (It's Christmas Time) by Pearl Jam is rather good, and I heartily endorse Fairytale Of New York, as well as Damien Dempsey's cover.
  17. They're rather good. They were supposed to be playing here a while back, but didn't, damn them. I like them, anyway, good simplistic rock and roll.
  18. Haha, I love the old WCW games, the random run-ins were great. My favourite was Backstage Assault, though, it was just so awful. They re-used old commentary from the last game, and half if it didn't even begin to make sense. It was hilarious. And the "entrances" were pathetic, it just played three seconds of their entrance movie. Revenge was the height of WCW gaming, though, clearly.
  19. I heard their version of Livin' La Vida Loca ages ago, it's alright, nothing special. None of it really is. "Baby One More Time" is by far the weakest track, though. Blue's the best, by far, though.

    Punk.

I just noticed that sentence and nearly pissed myself laughing. I'd never even heard of Operation Ivy until recently, and neither band are any good, or particularly influential. Beg to differ, Op Ivy's early work influenced a ton of bands. NoFX I won't defend, since I don't really give a shit about them. Maybe that's the case, but one of the most infleuncial bands from the US? Hardly. As for GG Allin, I don't recommend him. I love him, but he's utter shite. It's all about the image, the music itself, other than the odd couple of tracks, is horrendous.

I'll admit that I haven't heard the last Sum 41 album, but from most of what I've heard, they had naff teenybopper American pop-punk vocals over generic classic rock riffs, with bad metal solos. It was the worst of all worlds.
  23. Empire's had both Dig! and Hotel Rwanda, so I may be inclined to agree with that one. Hotel Rwanda should've been higher, though, it's one of the best films I've seen in a long time.

None of the bands you just listed are punk, or good.
