  1. "The Flame" side quest spoilers:

    Spoiler

So the "conclusion" to this side quest was very underwhelming. Nothing was really resolved and all we're left with is a teaser for possible DLC or the next game and a spider suit I'll probably never use.

The side activities stuff has been disappointing in general this time around. The main quest has been amazing so far though.

    Ending spoilers and several nitpicks:

    Spoiler

Harry surviving felt like a cop-out. I guess it would have been out of character for Miles not to try to revive him. But the ending would have hit much harder if he died. And Harry dying would have been a much more logical motivation for Norman to turn on the Spidermen too. Like, Spider Men literally did what Norman asked him to do. It is a wonder that Harry survived being severed from the Symbiote to begin with. His reaction to that is way too irrational even by Norman Osborn standards.

Also, Miles' Evolved suit is garbage. And so is the suit that Peter is gifted by Harry at the end. The suit selection is pretty weird in general. A lot of my favorites from the first game are missing and some of the new suits are trash. And there are way too many movie suits.

And why did they remove the feature to listen back to podcasts? When I played through the game, the podcast started playing at the most inopportune moments like when I was about to take care of a random crime, open one of the item boxes strewn across the city or when I was about to start a mission. I missed a bunch of episodes. And every time when I had to traverse a large distance to get to a mission objective, the podcasts always started playing right before I arrived at the objective. I hope they patch that in later. The same goes for being able to switch the weather and time of day. I also miss some of Pete's gadgets and the suit tokens from the first game.

And another thing regarding the podcast: Am I the only one who thought it was weird how Danika turns against Spiderman the second he gets the Symbiote suit? Like, even before he actually does anything bad or his personality changes. It's like someone gave her the game's script! And some of her complaints are J. Jonah Jameson levels of ridiculous. Like when she complained about property damage after the Lizard chase. How was that any different from the carnage that Spiderman usually causes when he fights super villains? And how exactly is Spiderman more brutal than usual?

And what was the point of the Spider bots collectible side quests? Other than teasing us about suits that they for some reason didn't include in the game?

  2. You can upgrade your standard version of the original Spider Man to the Remastered version for 10 bucks right now.

Edit: Apparently this has been a thing since May. I completely missed it.

  3. So the first season of Ashoka is in the books. And what an amazing season it was. As someone who never watched Clone Wars (neither the CG version or the traditionally animated one) or Rebels, I was afraid that I would be totally lost. But I have to say that they did a great job of telling a story and introducing these characters that didn't make me feel left out at all.

    Spoiler

Except for Ezra Bridger. I still don't get what is so special about him. If there is one thing I'm disappointed about, it is that they won't be able to bring Baylan Skoll storyline to a satisfactory conclusion given Ray Stevenson's untimely passing. Truth be told, his and Shin Hati's story was the one I was invested in the most. Unless they re-cast the character. Which I hope they will.

And Thrawn isn't the tactical genius they make him out to be. I like the way they present him and how Lars Mikkelsen plays him. But the writing of the character doesn't back up the hype of him being the smartest, most calculating imperial officer.

  4. So apparently Blue Ridge Rock Fest 2023 was a bit of a mess. And not just because of the weather. This is a insightful video by Tank The Tech, who was tour manager for Electric Callboy's recent US tour, about his experience working behind the scene at the festival:

  5. I feel like the story of Part 2 might work a bit better for me as a TV show since in that medium there is more of a disconnect between me and the characters and so the gut-punches that Gross and Druckmann deal out will probably be a bit easier to swallow.

I agree with some of this.

I never liked Joel much anyway, so seeing him killed off didn't bother me much. I always thought it was obvious that someone who massacred a hospital full of soldiers and doctors would have some mortal enemies, so the revelation of Abby's motivations for killing him shouldn't have surprised anyone. For that reason, the whole "Actually, the bad guys are the good guys of their own story" angle was completely predictable.

    Spoiler

I went into the game fully expecting Joel to die at some point. I knew his rampage at the hospital would come back to bate him. I just hated how it went down combined with the perspective shift halfway through the game.

  7. So i finally sat down and replayed the game after 3 years and as it turns out, my opinion about it hasn't changed one iota. I still don't enjoy the game

    Spoiler

I can't get over the way they killed Joel, how early it happens in the game and how they make me play as his murderer for 40% of the game and expect me to empathize with her. I feel terrible for Ellie as she goes down the violent path of revenge further and further, but I just can't extend the same empathy to Abby. I see all the reasons why I should care about her, how she is completely justified about hating Joel, how in the end she isn't all that different from Ellie and how they probably would have gotten along pretty well if they mad under different circumstances. But in the end, I just fundamentally do not give a shit about Abby or her crew (except for Mel who gets royally screwed over by both Owen and Abby). And I just wanted Abby's part of the game to be over with as quickly as possible like I did during my first playthrough. Making me care about Abby retroactively is just too big of an ask from the writers.

I suppose if they extended Abby's part of the prologue and had me get to know her and her crew properly and explained to me her reason for wanting to kill Joel, his death and everything that happens afterwards would have been easier to swallow. But as it is, the game just isn't for me. I also don't like how relentlessly bleak and miserable the entire story is and how awful the pacing of the game is. And I think the gameplay clashes with the story they want to tell.

I do plan on playing Part III whenever that will be released though.

John Wick 4: I'm sure John will be fine and his dog will probably be fine. Why am I bothering?

I stand corrected! Great movie but I really do hope it ends there

They are already working on spin-offs. There is a prequel mini series premiering in September about the Continental hotel and a young Winston that is also starring Mel Gibson of all people and a spin-off movie set between John Wick 3 and 4 about one of those Ballerina assassins they introduced in part 3. You better believe that they'll try to milk this franchise for all that it is worth.

    Spoiler

But I also hope that as far as main movies go they won't make another one and Wick remains dead. I really hope that Keanu doesn't go down the Liam Neeson route where they have to make a million cuts in every action scene to hide that the dude is in his 70s.

Was going to try NBA 2K23 since it's on plus but 201 GB minimum?!? The fuck is this nonsense?

And I thought 150 GB for Jedi Survivor was bad.  This is really getting out of hand. Fuck people with slow internet and data caps I guess.

I mean did we need a tenth Fast and Furious film?

And if Vin Diesel has his way, we're going to get two more. But seeing as Part 10 underperformed (it mate about 700 Million but it is estimated that it needed to make between 800 and 850 Million to turn a profit), that will probably not happen.

  11. The only buzz I've seen surrounding Secret Invasion was the intense backlash against the AI-created opening credit sequence.

I watched the first episode. It was a fine set-up for the rest of the series. I'll keep watching it although I'm certain they won't be able to stick the landing yet again.
