  1. naiwf and pizzamonkey both basically insinuated as much. Prove it. And SPEARING someone with your helmet isn't? You make me laugh. Kicking a guy is an obviously deliberate attempt to injure. As is a helmet to helmet hit. You don't need to kick a guy to bring him down, and you don't need to concuss a guy to bring him down. Harrison could have made that play without causing deliberate injury, but he didn't. If this was the first time Harrison had ever hit someone helmet to helmet, then I wouldnt want him suspended for it. But considering his history, only a complete fool would attempt to argue that it wasn't intentional. And an intentional attempt to injure is worthy of a suspension, even if it happens during a football play. Ok...
  2. naiwf and pizzamonkey both basically insinuated as much. I realize who I'm talking to here but here goes anyway... You made the original accusation. The honus is on you to prove it. Not me to disprove it.
  3. It's amazing. Chase is actually a perfectly reasonable, intelligent poster when not discussing the Steelers. But when discussing them his massive blindspot turns him into a completely unreasonable moron. I don't get it at all. Thank you. Unfortunately you're wrong about the second part. I still fail to see how me saying that no one can say whether or not Harrison was trying to injure McCoy is so unreasonable. In fact acting like you know for sure someone's intent is much more unreasonable to me. But what do I know, I'm just a Steelers homer right? It just so happens that the Steelers are never discussed here unless it's something people are overreacting to. As one of like two Steelers fans on this board I'm always the one on the opposing side of the argument. I could give you a list of things that would disprove your point about me but 1.) no one cares and I realize that. And 2.) it's really pointless.
  4. I understand it. But when the opposing argument is "He did it intentionally because I say so" I hardly think I'm the one being stupid. I don't post here every time the Steelers do something I don't like. Why would I? No one cares. You have no idea what I think about the Steelers other than what I post here. So yes, of course it's going to look that way. But I promise you, it's not. There's a lot of stuff that Steelers players do that I disagree with. I even admitted that Harrison's hit was illegal. I just can't believe people are actually trying to tell me they know for sure Harrison intentionally tried to injure McCoy and that they know his intent. Harrison helmet-to-helmet hits that were without question illegal? Maybe twice? The first two hits he was fined for last year were both 100% legal and he should not have been fined for them but the league overreacted because of 4 incidents league-wide in one day. I believe there was at least one other fine last year for a hit that was not illegal at the time it occurred. I believe Dunta Robinson has two helmet-to-helmet hits that were worse than anything Harrison's done. That may be how it's perceived but it's not true at all. Again, do you expect me to post here every time the Steelers or a Steelers player do something I disagree with? If I did that I'd be told that no one cares or that I'm doing it to seem like less of a homer. I can't win either way, I guess. I'll be sure to let you all know the next time a Steelers player does something I don't like though. That way you'll realize that I don't overlook everything a Steelers player does.
  5. Because clearly murder and hitting someone in a football game are the same thing. Also, I believe there would be this thing called a trial to determine whether or not Harrison would be guilty. But then again, as we've seen in the cases of Ray Lewis and Ben Roethlisberger, facts and court rulings don't matter, the minute you are accused of anything you're guilty. Silly me for giving someone the benefit of the doubt.
  6. Prove it. I disagree, I think anyone claiming to know the intent behind a football hit is wrong. No one knows for sure except James Harrison. I've already conceded that according to the rule it was an illegal hit.
  7. And SPEARING someone with your helmet isn't? You make me laugh. Can you prove that Harrison was 1.) aiming for McCoy's head and 2.) deliberately doing so to attempt to injure him? They're also hitting moving targets. That is an element to every single hit in the NFL. Who's to say that if McCoy merely continues to run with the ball that Harrison doesn't hit him in the chest? No it isn't. Not every helmet-to-helmet hit is intentional. How do you know it was deliberate? Again that's the problem. You don't know. I do agree he could have hit him without injuring him, but you can't prove he did so intentionally. Unless you're a psychic you don't know what's deliberate and what's not, sorry. 1.) I hate to break it to you but a LOT of players in the NFL have zero respect for the league or Goodell. Using that as a reason to suspend the guy is stupid. 2.) I still haven't seen anyone address how Harrison is supposed to change his trajectory in mid-motion and suddenly go low when he realizes he's heading for McCoy's head. 3.) Harrison's quote about hurting people is something every great NFL defender thinks, he's just the one dumb enough to say it. There's not a defensive player in the NFL who doesn't want to inflict pain and hurt people. The key, as Harrison stated, is injuring people. I don't think anyone out there is intentionally trying to injure people.
  8. The point is about media attention. In the last three seasons Seymour's been ejected three times because he punched someone in the face. No huge media outcry, no suspension. How is what Seymour did any better than what Suh did? But Suh's suspended because it's all over tv while Seymour is merely fined. As for Harrison, he has more incidents sure, but how many of those were actually illegal hits?
  9. Kicking a guy is an obviously deliberate attempt to injure.
  10. How do you know he's intentionally doing it? I guess I could see suspending someone if they deliberately do something to injure a person, like go at a player's knee after the play or if they can hold up. In this instance there's absolutely zero chance Harrison can stop himself once he's in the process of the tackle. And you can't tell me that you absolutely know for sure that McCoy's movement didn't lead to him getting hit in the head. That's why I disagree with suspensions in on-field play. It's too much of a judgment call and you can't get in a player's head or prove that what happened wasn't incidental.
  11. Single stupidest thing I have ever read here. By far. Why? You can't control what happens on the field during a play. The NFL already over legislates the game to a ridiculous degree. The moment you start suspending people for something that happens during a play is the moment you might as well put flags on people or play two-hand tag. The NFL is a violent game. Even if no one hit anyone "illegally" there would still be injuries.
  12. Article 13 states... Harrison hits him less than two steps after he releases the ball. So yes, it does appear that according to the rule that was an illegal hit, though you could argue that the first part of the rule I quoted would make it a gray area. That said there's no way a player should ever be suspended for something that happens during a play. After a play? Sure. But if it's in the act of making a tackle or during the play, then no player should ever be suspended.
  13. McCoy was running the ball. Harrison was diving toward him to make the tackle and McCoy opened himself up and threw the ball. Please tell me how Harrison is supposed to stop in mid-motion and change his trajectory.
  14. Football's supposed to played with an edge. Does Harrison take it too far at times? Perhaps. But if he was going out to deliberately injure people he'd hit them after the play, or take out a knee or something. Contrary to popular belief James is a good guy. Anyone who sees how he treats his son or the children of other players would see that he's a gentle guy off the field. He's not a monster. He's a guy who was cut three times from NFL rosters before finally sticking. He still plays like a guy who is fighting to stay on a roster. Maybe he needs to tone it down a bit. But I know why he doesn't. His edge is what makes him a great player. His edge is why he's a great pass rusher and one of the best linebackers in pass coverage in the NFL. If he doesn't play with an edge he's just another guy. And he's not going to change the way he plays because he's not doing anything any different than a lot of NFL players. He's just under more of a spotlight. There was no outcry when Ray Lewis hit Hines Ward in the head and gave him a concussion. Lewis was fined for it, but it wasn't plastered all over tv with people bitching about it. There hasn't been an outcry about Richard Seymour's play. Ndomakung Suh is the only guy in the league who has been villified like Harrison has over the past two years. For the most part that's how the NFL works. The punishment is directly proportional to the media coverage it gets. I wish James would stop with these borderline hits just because I get sick of being the only one looking at it objectively (cue the LOLs, right guys?), and as some have pointed out it's just a matter of time before he hurts someone. I'm sure there are people villifying the guy who haven't even seen the hit.
  15. Please tell me how the man is supposed to pull up when Colt McCoy throws the ball literally a split second before they make contact. McCoy tucked the ball. He was running the ball and he was out of the pocket. According to the rules that you seem to be citing, it was not an illegal hit. Did Harrison hit him with his helmet? Absolutely. Did it contact McCoy's helmet? Absolutely. But it wasn't like McCoy was standing still and Harrison took a run at him. McCoy's own motion may have contributed to him taking the hit right in the face. I'm glad McCoy wasn't seriously hurt and it would be a shame if he was, but stop acting like Harrison went up to him after the play and rocked him. Except this hit didn't violate a league rule. When a QB is out of the pocket and is clearly running the ball, he is no longer protected by the new helmet-to-helmet rule. There was a helmet-to-helmet hit on Mendenhall earlier in the game and Mike Mayock was correct in pointing out that running backs are not protected. McCoy tucked the ball and was running. He suddenly decided to flip the ball to a receiver. By that point Harrison already had all of his momentum going toward McCoy. How in the hell is he supposed to stop? There we go. Harrison's a fucking thug and it will never cease to make me laugh how Steelers will demonise Suggs for being a dirty player when they have the NFL's Matt Cooke on their roster. Is it something endemic of Pittsburgh teams that they're contractually obliged to put a scumbag on the roster? Who demonized Suggs? I don't think Suggs is a dirty player at all. He has one borderline hit on Roethlisberger, that's as far as I've seen Suggs go. The problem I have with people attacking Harrison is that the two hits that started this mess were clean hits. The first hit on Massaquoi would not have been a hit to the helmet if Massaquoi didn't duck. The second hit on Cribbs was clean because Cribbs was running the ball. Since then Harrison's developed a reputation and now, whenever he hits anyone, people want to run him out of the league. The NFL needs to protect their players, but there is no way in hell anyone can prove that Harrison deliberately went at McCoy's head. And you cannot prove that McCoy's on motion did not contribute to the hit. If they want to change the rules and say that no helmet-to-helmet contact is legal no matter what the situation, fine. But when they have to throw 40 flags a game because of it they'll be forced to draw the line somewhere. And Harrison's hit on McCoy though vicious, did not cross that line as the rules are written right now.
  16. Colt McCoy was out of the pocket. He also tucked the ball and was running. That makes him a running back, and runners are not subjected to the helmet-to-helmet rules. Also, Harrison began his tackle before McCoy threw the ball, McCoy essentially puts himself in a position to take that hit. At that point there is NOTHING Harrison can do. Real life isn't The Matrix, he can't just stop all of his momentum at once and prevent the hit. The hit, according to the rules, was legal. Just like his hit on Mohammed Massaquoi and Josh Cribbs were last year. (The Massaquoi hit was more the receiver's fault for ducking his head as Harrison was originally on target to hit him in the chest.) I am on board with a large fine, if the hit is illegal. I think any and all illegal headshots should be fined regardless of intent. But according to the rules that hit was legal, and should not have been flagged nor should it be a fineable offense. Phil Taylor's lariat of Ben Roethlisberger was a much more intentional, much dirtier hit. And before people jump on me for defending Harrison (OH NOES! I'M A HOMER!) I called for Steelers safety Ryan Clark to be fined for a helmet to helmet hit in an earlier game when he clearly and unnecessarily drove his head into the head of an offensive player who was one step out of bounds. I'm all for fining James Harrison the moment he does something that is obviously illegal.
  17. If he wants to stay in Pittsburgh and change his name to Chris Kemoeatu I'm sure the Steelers could find a place for him.
  18. Of all the games to have to miss due to health reasons. I'd love to be in that locker room after the game. Ben walking is a great sign. I'm gonna predict a sprained ankle, he'll miss the rest of this game and play against San Francisco on Monday Night.
