Here she is in her first film appearance in her Oscar nominated performance in 1944s Gaslight. (The movie what gave us the term Gaslighting)

Damn this year has been brutal for people in their 90s who seemed like they'd live forever. Betty White (I know it was technically the tail end of 2021 but close enough), Queen Elizabeth and now Angela Lansbury. I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting, and hope there aren't more, but who can say for sure. RIP to another legend.

Fun notes about her: her grandfather was a Labour MP and supporter of women's suffrage.

Her father was a member of the British Communist Party.

Lansbury herself was a self described socialist and helped get older actors hired onto Murder She Wrote so they could qualify for pensions and insurance.

And he brother Edgar produced the 1976 movie Squirm (as featured on Mystery Science Theatre 3000).

I have many memories of my grandparents having Murder, She Wrote on in the background when I was playing at their house. Angela Lansbury was much more than just that show, but if she wasn't it would be an incredible contribution nonetheless.

Occurs to me yet again that we are truly running on fumes with the surviving classical Hollywood figures.
