Minor League & Indy Hockey Starts

There isn't an NHL yet, and probably not for a long while. There's still plenty of hockey around in the US and Canada. If you're in Canada, there's all those junior leagues that feed to shit like the ECHL or the UHL. And then on top of that, the new #1 hockey league in North America - the AHL.

I really haven't kept track of AHL at all. All I know is there's a team in Worcester and I've been to at least half dozen of their games. And I'm not fond of driving to Bridgeport or Hartford to see games.

Earlier tonight I was at the season/franchise opener for a UHL team here in the city my college is in. They won 3-1, not bad for their first game ever. The team sports Wayne Gretzky's little brother Brent.

So um... anyone wanna tell me whether or not UHL is a minor league of NHL system or some independent league?

And for more open discussion: how is everyone else here getting their hockey fix with no NHL?

Theres a UHL team like 15 minutes from that Im defly going to check out not because of the lockout but b/c Im a hockey fan and always wanted to get into minor league hockey but there is none close to me

NASN is going to start showing NCAA and AHL hockey in the UK, so I'll get my fix then, and NHL 2005 will tide me over for a while.

Side note, is there any progress on the CBA? I'm finding it difficult to keep track of, seeing as the official site never seems to be updated.

I don't tend to watch hockey on TV, I don't follow any level well, and I don't consider myself that much of a fan. However, I will go to games live. Such as what happened last night. Boring, rainy Friday night with zero campus activity besides drinking.

The best part about living in New England is that you're not far from some minor league team in baseball or hockey. It's less than a mile from my dorm to the arena this new team here plays in.

Apparently the game Sat. night between Danbury (UHL team down the street from me) and Richmond had a shit load of fights. Even the coaches started brawling till the cops came along.

We have the Florida Everblades kind of nearby. They're ECHL, and I'm thinking of taking wifey out to a game or two.
