Yes it was. ITV hyped it up a lot as well...guess it is a big deal, although a bit of a fall from grace from being in blockbuster movies to making guest appeacrances in Corrie.

He's from Burnley, Corrie is like his local show, it's probably just something he wanted to do, and anyway, if you were a big massive movie star, wouldn't you want to do a cameo in the soap opera based on your surrounding areas, even if only for a laugh?

And it isn't like he isn't struggling for work, 2 of the films he's starring in are gonna be massive, X-Men 3 and The Da Vinci Code.
