TNA vs. ROH

TEOL

Recommended Posts

1) I must have missed this but where did Elix Skipper and David Young go?

I released Skipper and Young rather quietly in mid-November, because I wasn't doing anything with them and it made way for the Extreme Horsemen to arrive. I mentioned it in one of the news posts back then, along with Matt Bentley's release for gratuitous chap-wearing.

2) What happened between Sting and Hogan nine years ago at their Starrcade Match?

I probably should have explained this at the time for newer fans, but here goes. WCW basically spent the whole of 1997 building towards Hulk Hogan vs. Sting for the WCW Championship at Starrcade, with Hogan as the leader of the nWo and Sting as the last hope for WCW. The match was supposed to end with Sting losing after a fast count from evil referee Nick Patrick, with Bret Hart coming out and restarting the match (since Montreal had happened just a month previously) and Sting winning cleanly. However, for whatever reason (most people say Hogan paid him to before the match) Patrick's count was not fast, so Hogan actually did beat Sting. Bret restarted the match anyway, and Sting won the title anyway, but the entire match, the entire year-long angle was ruined, and what should have been the biggest match in WCW history ended up being the biggest disappointment. I'm trying to cut a long story short here, so I'll just recommend RD Reynolds' and Bryan Alvarez's excellent book The Death of WCW and move on.

3) What sim are you using EWR or TEW?

I'm using EWR. Although you're more limited as to what you can do, I thik it simulates real promotions better than TEW does.

4) Could you post up TNAs stat along with WWEs stats just so that we know how well you are doing. By stats I mean money, popularity, and ratings(WWEs ratings).

Since you asked nicely. WWE is Global at 91% PI, which has been going up every month. TNA is Global at 44% PI, which has also gone up every month. They have 100% production values (compared to my 90%). RAW tends to draw ratings around 6.8 at the moment, and Smackdown around 6.1 (the business is in a boom period and the industry is up to 74%). Impact usually does around a 6.0, and Xplosion is usually down around 4.4 due to its late evening slot. Their top five stars are Kurt Angle, Undertaker, Batista, Chris Benoit and John Cena, while my top five stars are Chris Jericho, Raven, Jeff Jarrett, Christian Cage and Christopher Daniels. Basically, I'm gaining on them slowly and have been for the entire game so far, but they're still pulling away from me. I predict that I'll be able to really go up against them in another 3-4 months, and I don't plan to stop this diary until I've beaten the WWE.

I agree that Jericho in TNA is unrealistic and I had to think long and hard before doing it, because I hate it when diaries lack realism, but simply put, I needed star power. I justified it as best as I could, what with one of Jericho's best friends as my champion.

Also, since I'm here, before someone corrects me about AMW's promo on this show, I know the Dudleys are 18-time champions in real life. However, as I noted in my backstory, in my game they are also 1-time NWA Tag champions, making them 19-time champions. Just noting that now. Oh, and I'd still appreciate it if anyone made me a poster for Final Resolution, because posters are pretty... I'm not running a prediction contest so a prize for a good poster could be arranged... *hint hint*

Jay Lethal vs. Jimmy Yang

We open this week with some ROH action, as Jay Lethal (who has never failed to get at least some cheers even after joining ROH) takes on Jimmy Yang, who is accompanied by his tag partner James Gibson. The two exchange holds to start, with Lethal using the skills he learned during his Pure title reign to take control. Yang counters an arm wrench by using the ropes to backflip, tripping Lethal and pinning him, all in one fluid motion. Yang is so awesome it isn’t even funny. He meets a Lethal leg lariat when he tries to build some momentum, though, and Jay wraps up Yang’s legs and lifts him up in the Lethal Lock. Yang reaches the ropes and fights up, driving Lethal into the corner and following up with a moonsault kick. We see the first signs of heelish chicanery as Gibson distracts the referee while Yang puts a figure four necklock on Jay and hangs over the ropes, choking him illegally. The ref uses his five count when his eyes are back on the action. Yang heads up for Yang Time, but Lethal gets up and hits a superplex instead. Fighting back to his feet, Lethal hits a reverse elbow, a running suplex and a springboard DDT in quick succession, but only manages to get a two count. He signals for the end and hooks Yang’s arms in a full nelson. Masterlock! Just kidding, he was actually going for the Lethal Injection, but Yang dropped down and rolled him up for two. Now it was Yang’s turn to distract the referee while Gibson hung Lethal over the ropes. Yang hit a superkick and connected with Yang Time for the three count.

Winner: Jimmy Yang (Rating: 75%)

Backstage, Shane Doug… uh, Jim Cornette is standing by with the ROH Tag Team champions, the Briscoe Brothers. “Last week, the World champion Christopher Daniels came to me and said that he has never been treated with the disrespect he has received from Shane Douglas and the TNA staff in the past couple of months. From now on, ROH interviews will be conducted by myself and by Gary Michael Cappetta, two men who appreciate great wrestlers like we have here in ROH. So let me kick things off with an announcement. Everyone knows I’m a huge fan of tag team wrestling. And right now, I personally control both of the most prestigious tag team titles belts in America today. Now TNA may want to stack the deck against my boys America’s Most Wanted this Sunday, give them three sets of opponents to try and stack the deck against them. That’s fine. I know AMW are one of the best tag teams in the world, and they’ll come through fine. But I want to showcase exactly how great tag team wrestling is here in ROH, with these boys, the ROH Tag Team champions, Jay and Mark Briscoe. A team I managed to success. Of course, TNA wouldn’t grant me PPV time to do it with, for fear of me upstaging their tag title match. That’s fine, I said. I’ll put it on the pre-show, for the whole world to see. That’s right, this Sunday, on free television, you will see four of the best tag teams in ROH battle it out for these title belts. You will see for yourselves that Ring of Honor puts on the best tag team matches of any company in the world. This team here, the Briscoe Brothers, they’re hungry to prove that they’re the best tag team in the world. They’ll defend against the Embassy, Lacey’s Angels, and James Gibson & Jimmy Yang in a match that I promise you, will show you why the ROH Tag titles have become the symbols of excellence that they have. And may the best team win!” The best thing about this promo? It put the Briscoes over without anyone having to hear their barely intelligible voices. (Rating: 91%)

Sonjay Dutt is getting ready for his match when Chris Sabin walks in. “Hey man, just wanted to wish you good luck in your match tonight,” Sabin tells him. “I couldn’t bring that TV title back to TNA where it belongs, but if anyone can get the job done, you can.”

“Thanks, Chris,” replies Dutt. “And I want you to know that I’ve got your back this Sunday when we team with the Naturals to face the Extreme Horsemen. I know you want revenge on those guys, and we’ve always been friends and tag partners. I’ll be glad to help you out.”

“Good to know,” says Sabin. Sonjay leaves, and after that woodenly generic dialogue, it’s something of a relief when the Horsemen run in and start kicking the crap out of Sabin. Dutt returns and tries to fight the Horsemen off until security separates them and Sonjay is escorted to the ring. (Rating: 73%)

NWA World Television Championship: Alex Shelley © vs. Sonjay Dutt

Shelley comes to the ring with Prince Nana, Jimmy Rave, and a huge smile on his face after seeing what has just transpired. Sonjay is clearly not focused on the task at hand, and Shelley dominates the match, tying Dutt up in a Stretch Plum before rolling over and ramming Sonjay’s face into the canvas. The champion casually slaps Dutt around a bit, which only serves to fire Sonjay up, and he answers with a DDT onto his knee and a running neckbreaker. Dutt whips Shelley into the turnbuckle, hits him with a flying kick taking himself over the top rope, and then catapults himself back into the ring with a somersault rana from the apron! That only gets two. Dutt applies a three-quarter facelock and flips over Shelley’s back, but Shelley catches him and hits a backpack stunner, then lays the challenger out with a superkick! The Border City Stretch forces Dutt to quickly tap out. After the match, the Extreme Horsemen make their way out to continue the fight from earlier, only to be cut off by the Naturals! Security again has to come in to separate the brawl.

Winner and STILL NWA World Television Champion: Alex Shelley (Rating: 75%)

Backstage, Gary Michael Cappetta is standing by with ‘American Dragon’ Bryan Danielson. “Dragon, you have a big match coming up this Sunday against TNA’s Ron Killings. Last week you prevented the Embassy from interfering in Killings’ NWA TV title match, but then you yourself attacked the Truth after the match was over.”

“Well, GMC, I follow the Code of Honor, like all true ROH athletes do. Shaking hands, keeping the playing field level in the ring. I didn’t want Alex Shelley to retain that title by cheating, because how does that reflect on the rest of the promotion? So I tried to stop Rave from bringing a chair into the ring. And then Killings attacks me anyway, even though I was trying to help him! Well, playing fair during matches is one thing, but it’s just stupid not to take the advantage heading into a huge PPV match. All’s fair in love and war. So yeah, I attacked him after the bell. And you know what -”

He stops as Ron Killings walks into shot. “Hey Dragon. You can talk about your Code of Honor all you want. Actions speak louder than words, man. If your Code of Honor lets you attack guys when they’re down, then it’s only so much crap. Simple fact of the matter is, Danielson, you’re just scared of the Truth. Cause the Truth is that you can beat me when you’ve got five guys on your side, you can beat me when there are twenty guys fighting out, but one on one, you know I’m the better man. Because I believe that if you wanna fight someone, you do it to their face… like this.”

Killings slaps Danielson across the face! Danielson responds with a forearm, and they start fighting it out. I hope security aren’t getting paid extra for all this. (Rating: 87%)

In their locker room, America’s Most Wanted relax with the NWA World Tag title belts around their waists. “So we’ve gotta fight three other teams if we wanna walk out of Final Resolution with these titles, huh?” Harris says to Storm. “No sweat. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we are the best tag team in the world today. Team 3-D can talk all they want about being 19-time champions or whatever, but all that means to me is that you guys lost those belts 19 times. The only thing that matters is who’s wearing the belts right now. There isn’t a team in TNA who we can’t beat, especially now we’ve switched sides. Hey, the winners write history. And me and Storm… we’re winners.”

“Those other three teams are gonna get their asses beat by us just like Moore and Helms did,” Storm continues, smiling sadistically. “Maybe we’ll even put someone in hospital like we did those guys. Yeah, Moore and Helms managed to beat us… but everyone gets lucky once or twice. What matters is that there might always be a couple of unlucky chance encounters. Dreams can come true… for a little while. But eventually, the world goes back to reality. These belts come back where they belong. And for Moore and Helms, for the other three teams in that match on Sunday, all I can say is… sorry ‘bout your damn luck.” (Rating: 72%)

The Rottweilers vs. Rhino & Sabu

Rhino and Sabu seem uncertain of one another, after beating the hell out of each other just last week. The Rottweilers quickly take advantage of that, jumping their opponents and stomping them down. The referee restores order and the match starts officially, with Homicide punching Rhino in the corner and hitting a running boot to the face Joe-style. Cide throws Rhino through the ropes and knocks Sabu off the apron, delivering the Tope Con Hilo to them both on the outside. The match breaks down again, with Low-Ki coming over to help his partner. Sabu charges at Homicide and receives a belly to belly suplex on the concrete floor. Rhino rams Ki into the ring steps and drags Homicide back into the ring, spinebustering the Notorious 187 into the canvas. Rhino gets a nearfall off the TKO and tags in Sabu, who gets another nearfall from a slingshot legdrop. Ki tries to interfere again, but gets caught with a high dropkick. Sabu whips Ki into the corner, then whips Homicide in after him, and then catches a chair thrown by Rhino and uses it to execute Poetry in Motion on both Rottweilers! Sabu tries to follow up, but gets caught with a thumb to the eye from Homicide, who tags in Low-Ki. Ki takes down Sabu with a springboard enzuigiri and tries to lift him up for a Ki Krusher, but Sabu fights out and tags in Rhino. The War Machine takes down Ki with a side belly to belly and sets up for the Gore, but Monty Brown attacks him for the second week in a row! The referee calls for the bell as Brown trades punches with Rhino, but Sabu takes him down with a chair shot to the back! Rhino and Sabu beat down the Hardcore champion as the Rottweilers decide to fight another day.

Winners (via DQ): Rhino & Sabu (Rating: 77%)

Backstage, Shane Douglas is with James Mitchell and the New Church. “Abyss and Vampiro are one of the three teams who will challenge for the NWA World Tag titles at Final Resolution this Sunday, along with Team 3-D and the winners of the upcoming match between Generation Next and the Second City Saints. My question for you is, with the recent issues you’ve been having with Raven, how focused are you on winning the Tag titles?”

“Oh, you better believe we’re focused,” Mitchell answers. “We see those tag title belts as another weapon in the arsenal of the most powerful, the most destructive force in TNA. No one can stop the New Church, especially not that deluded, idiotic nincompoop, Raven. He believes himself to be a human cancer, a force of evil that can match ours, but in reality, he’s in so far over his head he can’t find the daylight again. Rest assured that we’ll get to Raven in due time, and if he even thinks of sticking his nose in my plans, I will personally destroy him. But for right now, my main concern is bringing those tag titles to the most dominant team in TNA history. Who can stand against this man, the Living Vampire, who sends a shiver down the spine of all who lay their eyes upon him? Who can even hope to take down a 6’ 8”, 350lb weapon of mass destruction like Abyss? No three men in TNA can take them on, let alone two! This Sunday, it’s the NWA Tag titles that we take. Soon it will be the NWA World Heavyweight title, or maybe even the whole of TNA… but the greatest prize of all will be Raven’s soul.” He leads his men away with a callous laugh as the Franchise looks on in disgust. (Rating: 74%)

Generation Next (Aries & Strong) vs. Second City Saints

This match will determine the last entrants into the four way NWA Tag title match at Final Resolution. The Saints look to punish Gen Next for renouncing their allegiance to ROH, with Punk stomping down Aries to start. Aries quickens the pace with a spinning heel kick and hits the crucifix bomb followed by the pendulum elbow drop for two. Aries tags Strong, who takes Punk down with a running Yakuza kick for a two count. Strong goes for a backbreaker, but Punk counters with a double underhook backbreaker of his own (the Welcome to Chicago) before tagging in Cabana. Cabana grabs an armwrench and starts doing the robot while holding the arm to increase pressure, which gets him forearmed in the face and chopped hard. Cabana stops Strong’s onslaught with a kick to the knee, though, then whips him into the corner and delivers a double knee to the face. Cabana goes for the Colt 45, but Strong flips him over into a backbreaker and tags in Aries, who launches himself into the ring with a corkscrew splash. Aries goes for a back suplex, but Cabana flips out of it and hits a lariat to the back of Aries’ head. Punk tags himself in and goes for the Anaconda Vice, but Aries rolls out of it and dropkicks Punk down. Cabana goes to interfere, but Bobby Roode and Petey Williams drag him out of the ring and hold him back! Aries hits an inverted rolling fireman’s carry slam and finishes Punk with the 450 Splash as Cabana fights off Team Canada.

Winners: Generation Next (Rating: 78%)

Chris Jericho’s music hits and he makes his way out for the main event, but before his tag partners can show up, he takes a microphone. “You know, I’m being forced to team with a couple of ROH losers tonight. Really, that doesn’t matter to me. All this match is to me is another win for the greatest superstar alive. But what does matter to me is Jeff Jarrett. You know, people have even had the nerve to imply that Y2J is scared of Jeff Jarrett? They think that the man, the myth, the Jericho himself is afraid of, of freaking Double J! You think I care about a guy who carries a guitar around with him because he thinks he’s some country music star? I’m a rock god! I’m the greatest superstar ever to set foot in this ring, and I am not a coward!” The crowd responds with a creative ‘Y2Pussy’ chant. “No! Shut up! I am a living legend, and you people will show me the respect I deserve! I will show you how afraid of Jeff Jarrett I am. I know I challenged you to face me at Final Resolution, but right now, I’m darin you to show your face out here, right here, right now, so I can kick your ass in front of all these people! Come on, jackass!” Tenay rants about how Jarrett isn’t even in the building, and Jericho is making empty threats. Sure enough, Jarrett does not appear, and the next music to play is that of Samoa Joe, who looks less than thrilled with the ‘ROH losers’ comment. (Rating: 98%)

AJ Styles, Christian Cage & Raven vs. Chris Jericho, Christopher Daniels & Samoa Joe

Daniels has to convince Joe not to just kick the crap out of their tag partner, and they instead choose to basically ignore him as they await their opponents. Raven starts against Joe, who demands AJ. Raven goes as if to tag, but instead surprises the big man with punches to the face. He tries to hit a clothesline, though, and gets caught with the STJoe. Joe chops Raven in the back, kicks him down and hits a running knee drop across the throat, which gets a two count. Joe tags in Chris Daniels, who starts slapping away at Raven and mocking him. That just pisses Raven off, and he comes back with a superkick to the face and a bulldog for two. Raven tags in AJ and Joe calls for the tag, but Daniels instead goes to fight AJ himself and gets caught with a springboard forearm to the face. AJ connects with a backbreaker, then a gutbuster, and then a pumphandle slam into a gutbuster for two. AJ tags in Christian, who continued to work on Daniels’ midsection with an abdominal stretch. Daniels fought out with a hip toss and caught Cage with a leg lariat before tagging in Joe. Joe nearly decapitates the NWA World champion with a running kick and hits a big senton for a two count. Joe powerbombs Cage and converts it into a modified Boston crab broken up by Styles. Jericho tags himself in and Joe hardly even notices, instead charging into AJ and sending him out of the ring. Joe destroys AJ on the outside while Jericho kicks away at Christian in the ring. He even goes for the cocky cover, which Cage quickly kicks out of. Cage tries to build some momentum, but gets caught with the Flashback for a two count. Jericho hauls Cage up and cockily sets up for the Stroke, planning to make fun of his rival Jeff Jarrett by using his finisher. Christian counters into the Unprettier, only for Jericho to counter that with a roll-up… holding the tights! That’s enough to get the three count.

Three Way Dance for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship

'Captain Charisma' Christian Cage © vs. 'Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels vs. Raven

Christopher Daniels survived 19 men to earn a shot at the NWA World Heavyweight championship, winning the Gauntlet for the Gold at Turning Point. However, due to the controversial nature of the title match at Turning Point, NWA World champion Christian Cage requested that Raven receive another title shot. The end result? Philadelphia has seen some great three way dances in its long and storied wrestling tradition, and it's going to see one more with the NWA World title on the line! Can Christian Cage continue his awesome title reign? Will Christopher Daniels unify the NWA and ROH World titles? Can Raven finally fulfill his 'destiny'?

TNA X Division Championship

'The Phenomenal' AJ Styles © vs. 'The Samoan Submission Machine' Samoa Joe

During the entire time that Samoa Joe has been in TNA, only one man has been able to pin his shoulders to the mat - 'The Phenomenal' AJ Styles, the reigning X Division champion. Styles won that belt by ending Joe's record-breaking title reign at TNA's biggest show Bound For Glory, and Joe has remained unable to beat him since switching sides and joining ROH. At Final Resolution, they will meet one on one for the first time since Bound For Glory, with the X Division title on the line. Joe has promised to destroy Styles - can the Phenomenal One survive?

NWA World Tag Team Championships

America's Most Wanted © vs. Generation Next vs. The New Church vs. Team 3-D

America's Most Wanted sold out to ROH in order to regain the only things they truly care about - the NWA World Tag Team championship belts. In the process, they put then-champions Shane Helms and Shannon Moore out of action. Disgusted with AMW's actions, Director of Authority Larry Zbyszko arranged fora four team elimination match to take place at Final Resolution, saying that he didn't care who takes the belts off AMW as long as somebody does. AMW will have to defend against three of the best teams in the world today, but will they have something up their sleeves for this match?

TNA Hardcore Championship

'The Alpha Male' Monty Brown © vs. 'The War Machine' Rhino vs. 'The Suicidal, Homicidal, Genocidal' Sabu

Despite winning the Hardcore championship from Sabu at Genesis, Monty Brown still feels that he is not being shown the respect that he deserves by TNA fans and TNA management. He has constantly disrupted episodes of Impact and Xplosion in order to make his point known, much to the annoyance of Larry Zbyszko. When Brown interfered in a #1 Contendership match for his Hardcore title, the Director of Authority announced that he would have to defend against both Rhino and Sabu at Final Resolution as punishment! Zbyszko also hinted that he may have an unpleasant surprise for Brown at Final Resolution also...

Extreme Horsemen vs. Chris Sabin, Sonjay Dutt & The Naturals

Last month at Turning Point, Simon Diamond brought in the Extreme Horsemen to, as he put it, 'take down TNA management once and for all'. The self-proclaimed 'most dangerous group in TNA history', led by 'The King of Old School' Steve Corino, has beaten down anyone in their path. But now a group of TNA wrestlers have banded together to take on the Horsemen at their own game. The playing field will be level at Final Resolution with four men on each side... can the Horsemen be stopped before they start to run over the whole of TNA?

'American Dragon' Bryan Danielson vs. Ron 'The Truth' Killings

Two of the most skilled and popular wrestlers in their respective companies, Bryan Danielson and Ron Killings have clashed repeatedly over the course of the war between TNA and ROH, with Danielson gaining the upper hand each time. Danielson is perhaps one of the most naturally gifted technical wrestlers of his generation, and he has managed to best 'The Truth' with his painful submission holds on a number of occasions. However, Killings is convinced he can outwrestle Danielson, and he'll get his chance to prove it at Final Resolution when he meets 'American Dragon' one on one.

Second City Saints vs. Team Canada

One of the most successful tag teams in ROH history, the Second City Saints have been given the task of taking out Team Canada, who ROH feels could prove a threat in the war between TNA and ROH. CM Punk has repeatedly expressed the opinion that he deserves better, while the new ROH Pure Wrestling champion 'Classic' Colt Cabana seems happy enough to be fighting for his cause. Team Canada are by no means an easy team to defeat, and Bobby Roode and Petey Williams will be ready for the Chicago natives at Final Resolution.

Also at the show, 'King of the World' Chris Jericho has challenged the man who he put out of action a few weeks ago, 'King of the Mountain' Jeff Jarrett, to face him. There has yet to be any response from Jarrett's camp, and word is he is not physically cleared to wrestle. Based on this, TNA has refused to sanction a match between the two, but those close to Jarrett are saying he is determined to show up Jericho in Philadelphia. Jericho is said to be confident that Jarrett will not show up, referring to the former NWA World Champion as a 'gutless coward'.

Preshow Four Way Tag Match for the ROH Tag Team Championships: Briscoe Brothers © vs. The Embassy vs. Lacey's Angels vs. 'Redneck Messiah' James Gibson & 'The Last Dragon' Jimmy Yang

It's a well known fact that ROH Commissioner Jim Cornette has something of a passion for tag team wrestling. He managed one of the greatest tag teams of all time, the Midnight Express, to many a title reign throughout the 80's and has repeatedly tried to recapture that success in ROH. To demonstrate the strength of ROH's tag team division, Cornette has arranged for four ROH teams to face each other for the ROH Tag Team championships, to mirror the NWA World Tag title match. Cornette claims it will be readily apparent which company has the better tag teams, and this is your chance to see for yourself.

Preshow Four Way Tag Match for the ROH Tag Team Championships: Briscoe Brothers © vs. The Embassy vs. Lacey's Angels vs. 'Redneck Messiah' James Gibson & 'The Last Dragon' Jimmy Yang

Due to the time constraints of putting this match on the pre-show, this match will be one fall to a finish… I prefer title matches like this to be under elimination rules, to make sure the champions have to be pinned to lose their titles, but there it is. It’s just like how sometimes I think the six-sided ring would be perfect for six team tag matches until I remind myself of the sort of mess that match would be. Mark Briscoe starts out against Jimmy Yang, and they trade holds for a bit to get the crowd into it. Yang takes down Mark with a spinning heel kick and tags in Alex Shelley, who tags straight out to BJ Whitmer. Whitmer decks Shelley with a big chop before going to Mark, who scores with a step-up enzuigiri and tags in Jay. Jay launches himself into the ring with a springboard dropkick and hits a leg lariat for two. Whitmer fights back with a boot to the face and goes for a powerbomb, but Jay flips out and tries to score a pin, only for BJ to bridge up and turn it into a backslide for a near fall. Both men tag, bringing Jimmy Rave and James Gibson into the ring, but Rave ducks a clothesline and tags Jimmy Jacobs as this match officially becomes impossible to follow. I think they’re trying to pack as much into the short time as possible, but it does seem to be working. Jacobs and Gibson trade right hands, with the power of the HUSS~! giving Jacobs the advantage until he runs into a dropkick. Gibson tags Shelley, who tags Jay Briscoe (those Embassy guys just do not want to get involved in this one), who eats a Berzerker Boot and the Contra Code that might have gotten the three count had Mark not broken the count. Mark continues stomping away at Jacobs, which draws in Whitmer, which eventually draws in Yang & Gibson as well, though the Embassy stay on the apron. Whitmer takes out Gibson with a hard kick to the side of the head and Jacobs spears down Yang. Whitmer then lifts Yang up on his shoulders as Jacobs goes up top, and they execute the Doomsday Rana to Lacey’s approval! The Briscoes jump Whitmer while Jimmy Rave blind tags himself in on Jacobs, and the Embassy finally enter and attack everyone. Jacobs takes the shoulderblock/spear combo from the Embassy, and they send Lacey’s Angels and Yang & Gibson to the outside. The Briscoes surprise Shelley with a double dropkick, though, sending him out to join the others. Jay takes out Rave with the Crucible while Mark ascends the turnbuckle and hits a Shooting Star Press from the top to the outside, wiping everyone out! Jay Briscoe finishes Rave with the Jay-Driller, allowing the Briscoes to retain.

TNA Final Resolution – January 21st, 2007

We get our opening video, hyping the World and X Division title matches heavily. The pyro goes off, and Mike Tenay is the first to welcome you all live from the First Union Spectrum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to TNA Final Resolution! Tenay and West run down the card quickly as the Canadian national anthem plays and we get ready for our opening contest for this evening.

Second City Saints vs. Team Canada

Seeing as how we’re in Philadelphia, I managed to convince the rest of the higher-ups that using licensed music for some of the wrestlers’ themes would be a good idea. Hence, the Saints come out to Miseria Cantare by AFI tonight, rather than the crappy generic theme they had been using. Cabana starts against Petey, as Punk tries to give Colt a quick pep talk, which Cabana shrugs off. He offers a handshake, but snatches his hand away. Apparently it was a psych. Petey proceeds to kick the crap out of Cabana, building up momentum with the tilt-a-whirl into a Russian leg sweep and a dropkick. Petey tags in Bobby Roode, who easily overpowers the ROH Pure champion and chokes him in the corner. Cabana staggers him with a step-up enzuigiri and tags Punk, who stomps down Roode and suplexes him. Punk armwrenches Roode and tags out to Cabana, who takes the armwrench and tags back to Punk. Punk takes the armwrench and tags out, but Cabana simply tags Punk back in again. Punk tags in Cabana again and this time avoids the attempted tag, allowing Roode to take Colt down with a huge clothesline. Cabana sells the clothesline like he’s been shot as Punk yells at him to ‘GET SERIOUS!’ Cabana responds by eye raking Roode and ‘tagging’ Petey in. Petey just looks on in confusion while Cabana gives us all a stunning rendition of ‘O Chicago’, sadly interrupted when Roode smashes Cabana in the back of the head. Roode hits a big neckbreaker on Cabana and tags in Petey, who hits a diving elbow for a two count. Petey goes for a Sharpshooter, but Cabana fights out of it and rolls Williams up for two. Petey regains control with a tornado DDT and tags Roode back in, who lays into Cabana with punches. He runs into a boot from Cabana, though, and gets hit with a second rope dropkick, knocking both men down. Cabana is first to his feet and Punk offers a tag, but Colt just gives him the ‘A-OK’ sign. Annoyed, Punk drops off the apron and takes a seat at ringside. Cabana tries to apologise and so doesn’t see Petey attacks him from behind. Petey hits an impressive Canadian Destroyer on Cabana and pins him, with Punk not even trying to break the count. After the match is over, Punk helps Cabana to his feet… then decks him with a right hand and stomps away at his own tag partner! Punk has snapped, taking a chair from ringside and almost decapitating Cabana with it! Punk leaves Cabana laying in the ring and walks backstage, yelling ‘Why can’t you just be serious, Colt? Why are you making me do this?’

Bryan Danielson vs. Ron Killings

After many hours of tense discussion, it was decided that ‘The Final Countdown’ only works for ROH champ Danielson and not regular Danielson, so we’re back to Self Esteem for him tonight. True to his word, Killings tries to beat Danielson at his own game to start, exchanging holds in the middle of the ring. And sure enough, Danielson kills him, damn near wrenching the Truth’s arm out of his socket with some of his more creative submissions. Danielson twists Killings’ arm with a wrist lock, then breaks it himself and knocks down Killings with a dropkick. Killings pops up with a calf kick, staggering Danielson, who then ducks a clothesline and answers with a roaring elbow. He goes to whip Killings into the corner, gets reversed, leaps to the top rope and moonsaults over a charging Truth before delivering a Tiger suplex for two. The American Dragon locks in a painful looking leg assisted Fujiwara armbar that has Killings screaming in pain, but he refuses to tap out, instead rolling out of it and dropkicking Dragon in the face. Killings tries to stay on the offensive, kicking Danielson back into a corner, but when he tries to hook up his opponent’s arms, his own arm gives way and Dragon takes advantage with a Northern Lights suplex for two. Danielson locks in the Crossface Chickenwing, looking to score the submission. Again, the Truth fights through the pain, kicking off the ropes into a pinning predicament and forcing Danielson to break the hold. Danielson lifts Killings up for the airplane spin, but Killings fights his way out and hits a reverse DDT. Killings boots Dragon in the midsection and calls for the Axe Kick, which Danielson avoids… but Killings saw it coming this time, and managed to connect with the Truth Conviction! He takes too long to make the cover, though, and Danielson gets the shoulder up. Killings sets up another move, but Danielson executes a quick standing switch, a picture perfect German suplex, and then flips over and hooks Truth’s arms behind his back, flipping over again into the Cattle Mutilation! Killings tries to fight up to his feet, but the pressure is too much. After holding on as long as he can, with his one good arm, Killings taps out. Afterwards, a clearly impressed Danielson offers a handshake to the Truth, who warily accepts.

Winner: Bryan Danielson (Rating: 86%)

Extreme Horsemen vs. Chris Sabin, Sonjay Dutt & The Naturals

The Extreme Horsemen cut imposing figures as they head to the ring. Their opponents enter separately and surround the ring, then all attack at once, and we kick this match off with a huge brawl. Team Sabin quickly clears the ring and stands tall as the Horsemen regroup on the outside. Sabin, idiot babyface that he is, sends his partners to the apron and challenges Corino to face him one on one. Corino fakes him out, and the Enforcers jump Sabin from behind, triggering some more brawling. Finally the match gets properly underway with Simon Diamond and Chris Sabin starting. Simon beats Sabin down, as the Horsemen use their nefarious heel tactics in their own corner. The Enforcers take turns stomping away at Sabin, with Polaco scoring a near fall off a superkick. Sabin finally manages to fight off CW Anderson with an enzuigiri and tag in Sonjay Dutt, who goes to work with a springboard body press on Anderson before knocking the Horsemen from the apron. The Original Playa from the Himalaya quickens the pace with a springboard rana, but charges straight into an exploder suplex by Anderson, who tags out to Corino. Corino knocks the Naturals from the apron and takes a swing at Sabin, who ducks and hangs him over the ropes. Corino staggers back… into a roll-up by Sonjay! 1… 2… kick out. The Horsemen enter the ring anyway and attack, and the Naturals try to get some revenge as well. Sabin kicks the Enforcers and Corino to the floor while hitting a tornado DDT on Diamond, and Sonjay follows up with a moonsault plancha onto all of them! In the ring, Simon eats the Natural Disaster, but he’s not the legal man. The Enforcers come back with a double superkick to Douglas and a modified Hart Attack to Stevens to turn the tide, but Sabin takes them both out with a springboard dropkick. Dutt delivers the Hindu Press to Diamond, but at the same time, Corino takes Sabin’s head off with a lariat. One Old School Expulsion to Dutt later, it’s over.

Winners: Extreme Horsemen (Rating: 71%)

TNA Hardcore Championship: Monty Brown © vs. Rhino vs. Sabu

Things quickly get suspicious here, as before the match even starts, a gunshot goes off, and The Realest Killas plays over the speakers as Jim Cornette makes his way out flanked by the Rottweilers, Homicide and Low-Ki! Julius Smokes looks on in approval as Cornette explains, “It seems in his mad rush to get a little payback on you, Monty Brown, the Director of Authority left open a few loopholes that he probably shouldn’t have! Well, it’s opportunities like this that are gonna win this war for ROH. When we challenged you last week, Rhino & Sabu, we were jus scouting out the opposition. So allow me to introduce the newest two participants in this match, the Rottweilers!”

“Hold on just a second!” Larry Zbyszko makes his way out to argue. “Yeah, I knew you could enter your guys into this match, and that really didn’t matter to me. As far as I’m concerned, they’re just two more targets for my own surprise entrant. If that gentleman would like to make his way to the ring now…”

And the Philadelphia crowd goes crazy as Enter Sandman plays, and the SANDMAN appears in the crowd! He goes through his whole entrance routine to the delight of the crowd (especially the drunks) but not so much to the joy of Homicide and Low-Ki. When Sandman finally gets to ringside, the Rottweilers jump him and the match begins.

TNA Hardcore Championship: Monty Brown © vs. Rhino vs. Sabu vs. Homicide vs. Low-Ki vs. The Sandman

Sandman fends off the Rottweilers with his Singapore cane as the three original match participants go at it in the ring. That battle soon spills to the outside too, and the match quickly degenerates into carnage. As Monty, Rhino and Sabu brawl on the outside, the Rottweilers sneak back in the ring and deliver a stereo tope con hilo/somersault plancha onto them all. Sandman one ups them, though, with a senton bomb from the top rope onto all five opponents on the floor! Sandman starts wiping everyone out with Singapore cane shots, but Sabu rolls back inside with a chair and takes him and the others out with Air Sabu! The ‘Holy Shit’ chants continue as Homicide and Sabu fight it out. Homicide rams Sabu into the ring steps and goes after Rhino, only to meet a chair shot to the skull. The War Machine starts unleashing attacks on anything that moves, but Low-Ki is too quick for him, using the ring steps as a launchpad for a flying kick. Ki cuts Rhino down to size with hard kicks while Sandman lays out Sabu with a hard cane shot. Ki ducks the cane and springboards off the apron with an enzuigiri on the outside! He then pulls Sandman up onto the apron and applies the Bite of the Dragon across the ropes (perfectly legal in a hardcore environment), but Sandman breaks it with a cane shot to the head. Sandman hits the White Russian Leg Sweep on Ki and goes up top, but the Alpha Male shoves him off and he hits the guard rail hard! The champion then sets up and delivers the Pounce to Low-Ki, but instead of going for a cover, he foolishly stalks Homicide next. Brown charges Homicide and meets the ghetto fork to the head! As Brown staggers back in pain, Homicide grabs him and delivers the Cop Killer! 1, 2, 3, and we have a new Hardcore champion! Still dazed from the brutality of the match, Homicide staggers to the back with Ki and the title belt before the other wrestlers come to.

Winner and NEW TNA Hardcore Champion: Homicide (Rating: 84%)

NWA World Tag Team Championships: America’s Most Wanted © vs. Generation Next vs. The New Church vs. Team 3-D

The ever popular tag team champions refuse to start in the match designed to make them lose the titles, so instead Austin Aries starts against Abyss in something of a mismatch. Aries attacks quickly, leaping to deliver forearms to the face of the Monster, but charges into a HUGE flapjack that smashes him into the canvas so hard he bounces back up to his feet, just in time to get booted down by Abyss. Brother Ray tags himself in off Aries and delivers rights and lefts to Abyss’ face, but Abyss shrugs off the shots and piefaces Ray. Abyss effortlessly hurls the 300lb Brother Ray across the ring with a belly to belly suplex and takes the time to pose about it afterwards. However, with his back turned, he fails to see Ray tag in Roderick Strong, who surprises Abyss with a half-nelson backbreaker! Strong tries to capitalise, but Chris Harris quickly tags himself in off Abyss and stomps down the Gen Nexter. Harris punches down on Strong and tags in James Storm, allowing AMW to hit the Hart Attack. Storm works over Roderick with some headlockery, and drops him with an uppercut when Strong fights to his feet. Tag to Harris, who spears Strong down and locks in a Sharpshooter. Strong makes the ropes, so Harris tags Storm back in. The Tennessee Cowboy goes for the Swinging Noose out of the corner, but Strong powers out, throwing Storm from the top and nailing him with the Yakuza kick. Strong tags in Aries, but Harris sensibly tags Vampiro, who meets a running dropkick and the Crucifix Bomb from Aries. Aries hits the Macho Neck Snap over the ropes and goes back up to the apron for the corkscrew splash, but Harris pulls him to the outside. Team 3-D come over to attack AMW, and Vampiro joins the fray as the match breaks down. Aries rolls back into the ring and takes everyone out with the Heat Seeking Missile (suicide dive through the first and second ropes). Aries throws Vampiro back into the ring and goes up top, but James Storm tags himself in on Vampiro, throws Aries off the top and superkicks him down. He then hauls Aries up over his shoulders, spinning into the Eight Second Ride! That’s enough to get the three, eliminating Generation Next.

Abyss comes into the ring and attacks Storm, chokeslamming him down, but Harris pulled his partner out of the ring before Abyss could continue. Tagging himself in, Harris acts like he’s going to lock up with the Monster, but instead ducks an attempted clothesline and tags in an unsuspecting Brother Devon. Devon does lock up with Abyss, but gets shoved down. He manages to knock the Monster back with a clothesline, though, and delivers a spinning elbow smash that almost takes Abyss off his feet. Vampiro quickly tags himself in and takes down Devon with a leg lariat, stomping him down. Devon catches him going up top, though, and hits a super neckbreaker for two. Devon goes for the Saving Grace, but Vampiro fights out and goes to tag AMW, who drop off the apron. Instead Vampiro tags his partner back in as Devon tags Ray, and Ray catches Abyss with a big German suplex. Ray slams Abyss down and tags in Devon, and they hit the Wassup Headbutt on the big man. Ray calls for tables, but AMW quickly stop that, attacking Team 3-D outside the ring. Seeing Abyss about to tag, AMW quickly pull Vampiro off the apron and ram him into the steel steps. In the ring, Abyss receives the 3D, and Ray pins him as Devon challenges AMW to get back in the ring.

Both members of AMW enter the ring, and the two remaining teams engage in a slugfest, won (of course) by Team 3-D. Harris eventually volunteers to be the legal man, and he charges at Ray with a clothesline, but gets caught with a back suplex. Ray goes for the Ray Cutter/Brother Cutter/Deadly Cutter/whatever, but Harris shoves him into a right hand from Storm and them hits the Live From The 504 for a two count. Harris tags in Storm, who again goes for the Eye of the Storm. Devon attacks him to break it, though, and after a tag between Team 3-D, Ray takes advantage of Storm’s position to lift him in the electric chair hold, allowing Devon to hit the Doomsday Device! That only gets two when Harris breaks the count. Ray goes for the Ray Bomb on Harris, but as Gail Kim distracts the referee, Harris scores a low blow. Jim Cornette then runs out and cracks Ray with his tennis racket! The crowd boo the interference, but then cheer as Shane Helms and Shannon Moore finally return, coming out of the crowd and attacking Cornette! Meanwhile, in the ring, AMW deliver the Death Sentence to Brother Devon and get the three count to retain. Once they notice Moore and Helms on the outside, though, they look worried. The former champions chase the current champions to the back.

Winners and STILL NWA World Tag Team Champions: America’s Most Wanted (Rating: 78%)

TNA X Division Championship: AJ Styles © vs. Samoa Joe

Joe remains remarkably calm as the X Division champion enters the ring, considering the way he’s been attacking AJ every time they’ve come across each other in the last few months. A close up of Joe’s face shows the true story, though, with the quiet seething readily apparent in his eyes. Sure enough, the moment the bell rings, Joe starts unleashing some hard kicks and strikes, with AJ having to cover up as best as he can. Joe smashes the champion with a running kick to the face, and then delivers a senton, choosing to continue the punishment rather than going for a cover. AJ gets in shots wherever he can, but the challenger is relentless, snapmaring AJ down for the Joe Combo (chop to the back, kick to the chest, knee drop across the throat). Joe delivers a snap powerslam and locks in a Joejigatame, forcing AJ to quickly get to the ropes. Joe whips AJ into the corner and hits the running knee to the face, following up with the Facewash that almost takes the champion’s head off. AJ finally gets his first real break of the match, holding onto the ropes as Joe goes for another powerslam and legdropping him across the back of the head. AJ quickly locks in the Muta Lock, capitalising on the situation, but Joe fights out of it. Styles kicks away at Joe, determined not to let him regain the advantage, and the two men exchange strikes until Joe is staggered by a Pele kick to the head and sent out of the ring. AJ fakes Joe out on the dive, kicking through the ropes instead before delivering a plancha. The champion rams Joe into the steps and repeatedly kicks him into them, trying to do extra damage before rolling him back into the ring. Styles hits a springboard 450 splash from the apron for a two count. Joe tries to fight back, kicking Styles down, but the champion surprises him with a kip-up hurracanrana and follows up with the springboard reverse DDT for another near fall. AJ heads out to the apron and springboards back in again, but this time Joe catches him in mid-air and drops him with the STJoe. The challenger quickly pulls Styles to his feet and delivers a powerbomb into a Boston crab, turning it into an STF and then a crossface as Styles inches towards the ropes. Styles manages to hold on, fighting through the pain to get to the ropes.

Without pausing, Joe picks up AJ and delivers a big German suplex. He rolls that into a Dragon suplex, and then sets up an X-plex to finish the Chimaeraplex combo, but AJ manages to dig down and counter with a standing switch into a German suplex of his own, dropping Joe on his head! Desperately, AJ pulls himself up and kicks Joe some more, setting up for a Styles Clash. Joe easily counters, though, and picks up AJ for the Island Driver, only for AJ to drop over Joe’s shoulders and lock in a sleeper. Joe rams AJ into the corner to break the hold, and lifts AJ up into Muscle Buster position. Styles tries to fight out, so Joe delivers a kick to the head and climbs up the ropes himself, looking to hit the Muscle Buster avalanche style. AJ continues to fight, though, headbutting Joe on the top rope repeatedly. That dazes Joe long enough for AJ to set up his own move… SUPER STYLES CLASH from the ropes! 1… 2… Joe kicks out just in the nick of time! A frustrated Styles tries climbing the ropes, perhaps looking for the Spiral Tap, but Joe catches him up there and locks in the Kokina Clutch! AJ holds onto the ropes for dear life as the referee administers the five count on Joe, forcing him to break. Joe again goes for the Muscle Buster, but AJ rolls off and hits a hangman’s neckbreaker! He turns Joe around and delivers another Styles Clash, this time not going for the pin. Instead he goes straight to the top rope and this time connects with the Spiral Tap! 1… 2… 3, AJ Styles has managed to pin Samoa Joe for a third time in TNA! AJ celebrates with the title belt as the fans chant ‘Match of the Year’ in appreciation of these two athletes.

Winner and STILL TNA X Division Champion: AJ Styles (Rating: 91%)

‘Enemy’ by Fozzy hits, and the King of the World himself, Chris Jericho struts out to the ring with a huge smirk on his face. “Well, I’ve just gotta say this has been a fantastic show so far, just fantastic,” Jericho says. “Some of the best wrestling action going today, I think we can all agree. But there seems to be two things missing from this show. The first is, obviously, me, Chris Jericho. The Living Legend himself, the King of the World, has only just now graced you people with his presence. I’m the one you came to see. I know you wish I could be in every match on the card, but there’s only one man who I’m here to face tonight, and he is too much of a coward to face me.” The Philly crowd heartily boo Jericho’s egotism. Thank God for the city of Philadelphia, this crowd has been red hot all night.

“Yeah, that’s right, the other thing this show is missing is Double J himself, Jeff Jarrett. Now normally I wouldn’t object to that, seeing as how we’ve all seen enough of Jarrett to last us several lifetimes, and who wants to see him taking up air time that could be dedicated to me? But I distinctly remember telling him to show up here tonight if he had the guts to face me. So where are you Jeff? Say, Jeff, this reminds me of something. You know what this reminds me of? About a year ago, before I even came to TNA, I remember watching a show and seeing you, right here in this ring, daring Sting to come out and face you. Saying Sting was a quitter. Well, junior, where I come from we have a saying: Turnabout is fair play. So, just like you did, I’m going to give you till ten to come to this ring and face me, you stupid, spineless jackass!”

Jericho lays down in the middle of the ring and starts counting. “1! 2! 3! 4! 5! 6! 7! Come on, Jarrett, there’s still time! 8! Almost there… 9! One more to go…” But before he can say 10, Jeff Jarrett’s music hits, and the King of the Mountain comes out to probably the biggest face reaction he’s ever received! His ankle is heavily bandaged, and he’s walking with the aid of a crutch, but he’s here, and he has a microphone.

“Hey Jericho!” he yells, as Jericho looks back like he’s seen a ghost. “Yeah, believe me, I know how easy it is to throw out challenges when you know the other guy’s too injured to answer them. In this case, I’m sorry to say, you’re right. The doctors say my ankle’s been shattered, and there’s no way I can give you what you deserve tonight. But let me set a few things straight for you and these fans. I know a lot of these fans have hated me for pretty much all the time I’ve been herein TNA. And I apologise for none of it. Everything I did, I did to keep that NWA World title around my waist, and I did because it was best for me. That’s all in the past now.

“But these fans all know that I’ve been in TNA since day one, that I helped build this company into what it is today. The number one wrestling promotion in North America.” That technically inaccurate comment still gets some big cheers from the crowd. “I came out here every night, face every opponent put up against me, put everything I had into making this company the best, and now that we’re facing some of the biggest threats, the toughest times we’ve ever been facing, you want to try and put me out of action? Did you ever stop to think that maybe you were helping to kill this company, you stupid son of a bitch?! And I swear, Chris, that even though the doctors haven’t cleared me to wrestle, I don’t need a wrestling match to kick your ass. I want to fight you right here, right now!”

And a fight we have, as Jericho heads down the entrance ramp to attack Jarrett! Jarrett swings his crutch at him like a club, hitting him in the ribs and staggering him. Jericho punches Jarrett right in his bad ankle, though, taking the King of the Mountain down. Jericho drags Jarrett back to the ring and brings in a chair, setting it up across Jarrett’s leg to Pillmanize him again. But as Jericho goes up top, Jarrett throws the chair right at Jericho’s head! Jarrett sets up the chair and hops up after Jericho, managing to deliver the super Stroke with one leg, driving Jericho’s face right into the chair! Jarrett continues to attack as security arrives to break it up. (Rating: 92%)

NWA World Heavyweight Championship: Christian Cage © vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Raven

“Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest, sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance, is an elimination three way dance with a thirty minute time limit, and it is your Final Resolution NWA World Heavyweight Championship main event of the evening. The man in charge in this match, TNA official Mark ‘Slick’ Johnson. Introducing first the challenger, from the Bowery, he weighs in for tonight’s contest at 236 lbs. Introducing the self-proclaimed Saviour of TNA, this is Raven!” Raven gets a big pop from the ECW faithful in the crowd tonight, but he seems to hardly notice it, focused on the task at hand. “The second challenger, accompanied to the ring this evening by Allison Danger, representing Ring of Honor, from the City of Angels, weighing in tonight at 213 lbs, he is the ROH World Heavyweight champion, this is the Fallen Angel, Christopher Daniels!” Somewhat ironically, Daniels got probably the biggest reaction of the night from the ROH faithful in the crowd, coming out as he did to Disposable Teens and wearing the ROH World title. “And finally, from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, weighing in for tonight’s contest at 225 lbs, he is the current, reigning, and defending NWA Heavyweight Champion of the World, introducing ‘Captain Charisma’, Christian Cage!” The Peeps make some noise for the champion as he hands his belt over to the referee.

Both of the TNA competitors eye Daniels warily, and he bails at the start. Raven and Cage don’t seem too thrilled with each other, either, and start trading punches, with Raven getting the better of the exchange. Raven clearly hasn’t forgiven the champion for their controversial match last month, assaulting him with punches and a running knee lift. Daniels attacks Raven from behind, stomping him down and taunting him with the traditional ‘I’m smarter than you’ head tap. Daniels drops Christian with a leg lariat and throws him out of the ring, choosing to go to work on Raven instead. The Fallen Angel armdrags Raven over and hits a headscissor takedown, following up with a monkey flip out of the corner. Daniels takes Raven down with a running knee, only to walk into a dropkick from Christian. Cage stomps down Raven, but Daniels grabs a headlock on him, and when Cage tries to fight out, Daniels catches Raven with the headscissors and rolls, dropping both opponents head first into the canvas. Daniels tosses Cage again and turns into a clothesline from Raven, but Daniels blocks a right hand and hits a Complete Shot out of nowhere, followed by the Koji Clutch! Desperately, Raven claws his way to the ropes. Daniels whips Raven as Christian re-enters the ring, and Cage leapfrogs Raven, clotheslines Daniels, and takes down Raven on the rebound with a reverse elbow. Christian tries to make Raven submit with a Texas Cloverleaf, but again Raven fights his way to the ropes. Raven fights his way up with punches, but Christian ducks a big haymaker and goes for the Unprettier, only to be countered with a bulldog. Raven goes for the Evenflow, but Christian reverses into a Northern Lights suplex for a near fall. Christian drags Raven over to the turnbuckle and hits the tornado reverse DDT, but gets jumped by Daniels before he can make the pin. Daniels hits the Best Moonsault Ever on Raven, and that’s enough to eliminate him from this match.

Christian wastes no time continuing the match, hitting Daniels with a short backbreaker out of an inverted facelock. He goes for a submission, but Daniels quickly fights out, dazes the NWA champion with a step up enzuigiri, and then lifts him up and hits a Death Valley Driver for a near two count. Daniels scores with a Blue Thunder Bomb for another two count. Hearing the announcement that only five minutes remain in the match, Christian starts fighting back, connecting with a gutbuster and a reverse DDT. Christian goes up top, looking for the frog splash, but Daniels catches him up there, crosses the arms and throws him off with the Fall From Grace. Christian kicks out again, but as he does so, Daniels rolls over into the Koji Clutch! The crowd do some awesome alternating “Please don’t tap!” “Tap!” chants as they throw their support behind each competitor. Cage manages to get to the ropes, and fights out of an Angel’s Wings attempt, hitting an inverted suplex slam. Christian goes up top and this time successfully hits the frog splash, but Daniels kicks out. One minute remains, and Christian goes for another reverse DDT, but gets countered… into the Last Rites! 1, 2, and Christian’s foot is on the ropes! Frustrated, Daniels tries for the BME, but Cage avoids it and dropkicks Daniels down. With ten seconds left, Christian goes for the Unprettier, but Daniels counters it and hits the Angel’s Wings, right in the centre of the ring! 1… 2… and the bell rings before the referee can count the three! Daniels celebrates, thinking that he’s won, but the ref tells him that the time limit has expired, and Christian is still the champion. Furious, Daniels punches out the referee. Cage gets to his feet, only to be hit with Angel’s Wings again. Daniels takes both belts and lays the NWA championship on Christian. He stands over Christian’s prone body as the PPV ends.

TNA News and Notes (from www.grapplefanatics.net)

- Final Resolution received a 1.32 buyrate and was attended by 15,848 fans in Philadelphia, PA. The next TNA pay-per-view will be Against All Odds on February 18th at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. TNA officials are keen to run shows in ROH's old markets while the TNA vs. ROH angle is going to try and draw ROH fans to TNA shows, with the hope than when the angle eventually ends, they will remain with the product.

- GFN can exclusively reveal that the TNA X Division champion AJ Styles will defend against none other than the NWA World Jr. Heavyweight champion Jushin Liger at Against All Odds. The match will unify the two titles. This is the first major sign of the partnership between TNA and the NWA coming to the fore. Liger won the title back in September in a triple threat against Black Tiger IV (who already works for TNA as Rocky Romero) and Tiger Mask IV, and is said to be excited about the match, which will be only his second in TNA. Liger was scheduled to face Christopher Daniels last year, but had to pull out and hopes this will give him an opportunity to put on a great match for the fans. NJPW, on the other hand, is unhappy with the NWA's decision, although TNA have promised that the unified title will be defended semi-regularly in Japan.

- NWA Tennessee has been busy this week as it continues to expand. Three of CZW's top stars were recently signed to developmental contracts. CZW has remained the top independent promotion since ROH folded, and TNA scouts have been attending some of their recent shows and talking with CZW wrestlers already on the roster about who to sign. Ruckus, Necro Butcher and the Messiah will make their debuts on the next NWA Tennessee show. Super Dragon was also contacted, but refused to his commitments to Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, the independent promotion partly owned by him. None of the CZW wrestlers are signed to written deals and will continue taking indy bookings wherever they wish, although TNA did sign away CZW star the Sandman to appear on the main roster.

- TNA have also signed former WWE and WCW superstar Sean O'Haire to a developmental contract. Despite his name recognition, TNA officials feel he needs a little more seasoning before being brought onto the main roster, especially since he has mostly been working in MMA recently and hasn't wrestled a match in several months.

FINAL RESOLUTION FALLOUT

Just a few days after Final Resolution, TNA Wrestling returns with Impact this Thursday night live from Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida! Already, a huge main event has been signed that will see NWA World Champion Christian Cage and Chris Jericho take on ROH World Champion Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe! Although there have been several TNA vs. ROH tag matches in recent weeks, this particular combination is somewhat noteworthy. Director of Authority Larry Zbyszko has promised to explain this and other matters with some announcements that could have a huge impact on the TNA vs. ROH war!

What with the shocking events that took place at Final Resolution, a number of wrestlers will undoubtedly have thoughts and opinions on the current situations take in place in TNA. We've done our best to get as many of them as possible onto the show to make their views known, including Christopher Daniels, AJ Styles, Raven, Jeff Jarrett, Shane Helms & Shannon Moore. Watch the fallout from the huge PPV spectacular unfold on Impact this week on SpikeTV!

Also last night, ROH wrestler Homicide won a brutal six man contest to become the new TNA Hardcore champion. The former champ, 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown, has immediately invoked his rematch clause and will get a chance to win back his title on Impact! Will Homicide's title reign be one of the shortest yet?

One of the lesser events at Final Resolution (but no less shocking) was the split in the Second City Saints as CM Punk turned on his longtime tag partner Colt Cabana and cost them a match against Team Canada. Jim Cornette has officially thrown his support behind Punk, who will take on Team Canada's Bobby Roode on Impact this week. It's unclear where this leaves Cabana, but he has promised to bounce back with something special this week on Impact! What does he mean? There's only one way to find out for sure... tune into SpikeTV Thursday night and see for yourself!

Match listing:

Bobby Roode vs. CM Punk

Ron Killings vs. Simon Diamond

iMPACT! (January 25th, 2007)

We open the show this week with the Director of Authority, Larry Zbyszko, making his way out to address the crowd. “We just had another fantastic pay-per-view on Sunday, Final Resolution, and if you didn’t see it, then you missed out on some of the best action going today,” Larry begins. “But there are some issues coming out of that show that I want to address here. See, the night after the show, I went to see the NWA Board of Directors to discuss the present situation with them regarding the NWA World title. Eventually, the decision was made that the ‘Fallen Angel’ Christopher Daniels will not receive another shot at the title, just yet.” Crowd doesn’t seem too happy with that one. Neither does Jim Cornette, who makes his way to the ring to tell us so.

“Christopher Daniels is not being granted another title shot?” he demands angrily. “Anyone who saw that show last night knows that Christopher Daniels deserves to be the NWA World champion right now. He had Christian Cage beat, right in the centre of the ring! If anything, Daniels should be given another shot, right here, tonight!”

“Argue all you want, Cornette. The decision’s already been made. But hear me out. I was impressed by Daniels’ performance at Final Resolution, very impressed, as I have been with ROH in general, so I am going to give your guys a chance. Here’s how it works. At our next PPV, Against All Odds, we’re going to have an NWA World title match, and an ROH World title match. The winners of those two matches will go on to face each other at Destination X, and no matter who wins, the titles will be unified.” That announcement gets a big pop. “For the ROH title match, I’m leaving the challenger up to you as the ROH Commissioner, but I’d like to suggest one candidate who I think represents ROH more than anyone else, the Samoan Submission Machine, Samoa Joe.”

Cornette considers, then says, “If there’s no other way to get the title vs. title match I want… then you got it. Daniels vs. Joe for the ROH World title at Against All Odds.”

“As for the NWA title match, I asked the Board to submit their choices for the man to face Christian Cage, bearing in mind that they would represent TNA against ROH if they won. The Board came back with three challengers: Chris Jericho, Jeff Jarrett, and Raven. Jeff Jarrett was ruled out after his doctors informed me that his ankle will still be in a cast by the time of the show and he won’t be fit to compete. Raven may claim to be the Saviour of TNA, but quite honestly, he’s had two NWA World title shots in as many months, and both times he’s been pinned. So I have decided that Chris Jericho will receive the next NWA World title shot at Against All Odds.” The crowd are liking the big match announcements, but Larry Zbyszko is doing a bad job of keeping them entertained. (Rating: 68%)

This is unfortunate, since although a temporarily mollified Cornette heads to the back, Zbyszko remains in the ring. “The NWA Board of Directors also wanted to discuss another situation with me regarding the X Division championship. AJ Styles has proven dominant since regaining the title, scoring a huge win over Samoa Joe at Final Resolution. In order to find a new challenger for him, I am officially announcing that the 5th annual Super X Cup tournament will start on Xplosion this week! We’re going back to standard knockout tournament rules this year, with qualifying matches on every episode of Impact and Xplosion between now and Against All Odds. 16 X Division wrestlers will be entered, from both TNA and ROH, with the final taking place at the pay-per-view. The winner of the Super X Cup will get a shot at the X Division title at Destination X.

“AJ Styles still needed a challenger for Against All Odds, so I negotiated a deal with the NWA. The NWA’s top championship for the X Division style is the World Junior Heavyweight championship, which focuses on weight limits rather than no limits. At Against All Odds, the TNA X Division championship and the NWA World Junior Heavyweight championship will be unified when AJ Styles takes on Jushin Liger! The winner will be declared the first NWA World X Division champion!” The crowd seem to be expecting an appearance from Liger, and if they are, too bad. He’s still in Japan. Zbyszko heads to the back as we go to commercial break. (Rating: 63%)

When we come back, Shane Douglas is standing by with Shane Helms and Shannon Moore. “Guys, you returned on Sunday night at Final Resolution and confronted the men who in many people’s opinions stole the NWA World Tag Team championships from you, America’s Most Wanted. What are your plans for AMW when you get your hands on them again?”

“Like we proved on Sunday, AMW are scared to death of us,” Helms answers. “They ran away the moment they saw we were coming, just like they put us out of action rather than have to face us again. Well, we’re back, and we want the rematch that you tried to put off as long as you could. We talked to the DOA about it, and we’re getting that match at Against All Odds – but we don’t want just any match. See, every time you’ve had to face someone who could beat you, you’ve run away or got your damn running buddies to interfere for you. Sure, you can bring Gail Kim and Jim Cornette and whoever you want to. Because we’re bringing a few guys of our own. Guys like Team 3-D. Guys like Chris Sabin & Sonjay Dutt. Hell, we’re bringing all kinds of people, ‘cause our match at Against All Odds is gonna be a Lumberjack Match! There won’t be anywhere to run or anywhere to hide from us, and we are going to take back what’s ours, those NWA World Tag Team titles.” (Rating: 63%)

Bobby Roode vs. CM Punk

Coming off the loss to Team Canada at Final Resolution, Punk apparently wants to prove that he never needed his tag partner Colt Cabana with this match. Roode gets the early advantage, catching Punk by surprise with a hard clothesline and punching him repeatedly. Roode chokes Punk in the corner, forcing the ref to break the hold. This allows Punk to catch the Canadian Enforcer from behind with a chop block and stomp him down, working away on Roode’s knee. Punk snapmares Roode down, flips over him while holding Roode’s head to snap it forward, and then drops an elbow across the knee. Roode comes back with a powerbomb for a two count. Roode whips Punk into the corner, but Punk jumps onto the second rope and hits a flying neckbreaker on the charging Roode. Punk locks in the Anaconda Vice and draws the quick submission.

Winner: CM Punk (Rating: 75%)

We cut backstage, where we see a talk show-style set featuring a desk and a background of the Chicago skyline. Sitting at the desk is Colt Cabana with a huge smile on his face and the ROH Pure Wrestling championship laid across the table. “Look at me, look how hip, look how cool I am! I am live here in Chicago, and CM Punk, my friend, my brother, you may have turned on me at Final Resolution, and whatever reason you had for doing that is your problem. But now that I’ve been basically kicked out of ROH, despite still holding this ROH Pure title, I went to TNA management and I asked them if they wouldn’t mind me doing a little thing here on the show for them. And they liked my idea. Because Colt Cabana is loved by TNA management, loved by the fans, quite simply put, Colt Cabana is the hottest property in pro wrestling today! So tonight, live from Chicago, it’s Good Times, Great Memories, and CM Punk, this one’s for you!”

The ‘Good Times, Great Memories’ logo appears on the screen as Colt continues. “So, for the first TNA edition of my show, I was racking my brains trying to decide who to have as my guest on the show. But then I thought, who represents TNA more than Jeff Jarrett, the King of the Mountain? So he’s going to be on the show later on. In fact, he’s here right now!” And Jarrett is indeed here right now, as he walks into shot and takes a seat with Colt. “Jeff Jarrett, it’s great to have you here on the show.”

Jarrett just looks at him. “This is some kind of joke, right? I mean, you hosting your own show, like you’re a talk show host when you’re a wrestler? What the hell is going on here, whose idea was this? No one wants to see you interviewing people here – hell, we’re not in Chicago!”

“We are too!” Cabana fires back. “I should know, I live there! I mean, here! I think it’s much more reasonable to assume that I flew you out here to Chicago on my private plane and got TNA to set up a satellite link than that we’re sitting backstage at Universal Studios. Don’t you?”

Before Jarrett can respond to that, Chris Jericho arrives, grabs one of Jarrett’s crutches and smashes it over the back of his head! Jericho attacks Jarrett’s injured ankle until Cabana pulls him away, so Jericho attacks Cabana as well and they brawl until security – um, Chicago security – arrive to break it up. (Rating: 90%)

Back in Florida, Shane Douglas is standing by with Raven. “Raven, we’ve just heard that you will not receive another NWA World title shot after your defeat at the hands of Christopher Daniels at Final Resolution. What’s going through your head right now?”

“There’s only one reason why I was prevented from winning the championship at Final Resolution,” Raven explains after a pause. “Abyss and the New Church. I’ll admit it, Mitchell, you’re in my head once again. That’s why I want Abyss, one on one, so I can beat him and prove that as good as you are at your mind games, I cannot be stopped. Abyss, you –”

Abyss interrupts Raven with a blow to the back of the head! Both members of the New Church beat down Raven as James Mitchell looks on and laughs. “You want to go one on one with Abyss, Raven?” he asks mockingly. “You want to sign your own death warrant? By all means. But first, you have to prove to me that you’re worthy of stepping into the ring with a weapon of mass destruction. After all, not just anyone can face Abyss. Just think of the legal problems that would ensue for me if he put you into a hospital bed for the rest of your life. So at Against All Odds, it’ll be you and any partner you want against Abyss and Vampiro. If you win, maybe then you can have the match you want so badly. But if you lose… DOOMSDAY!” With that, Abyss and Vampiro double chokeslam Raven through a table! The New Church leave, their job done. (Rating: 77%)

Ron Killings vs. Simon Diamond

Simon is, of course, flanked by the rest of the Extreme Horsemen. He takes control in the early going, attacking the arm that Bryan Danielson injured at Final Resolution to good effect. A pair of armdrags take the Truth down, followed up with a big shoulderbreaker. Diamond works over Killings with an armbar for a minute or so. Killings fights to his feet and hits a couple of kicks, but charges into a boot to the shoulder and then a single arm DDT. Simon hits the first two suplexes of the Simon Series, but Killings counters the third into the Truth Conviction! Killings can’t make the cover, but hits a calf kick when he gets back to his feet to keep the advantage. A springboard clothesline gets two for the Truth. Killings goes for the Axe Kick, but Steve Corino trips him from the outside, allowing Simon to attack from behind. One Simonizer later, it’s over.

Winner: Simon Diamond (Rating: 81%)

‘The Franchise’ Shane Douglas is backstage with the TNA X Division champion, AJ Styles. “AJ, you managed to pull off an incredibly hard-fought victory over Samoa Joe at Final Resolution, and as a result you will be facing the NWA World Junior Heavyweight champion Jushin Liger at Against All Odds. What are your thoughts?”

“I said I could beat Samoa Joe, just like I already did at Bound For Glory, and quite simply put, I now rule the X Division. Jushin Liger is a legend, no doubt, but his time has passed. He knows, just like Sting knows, that I am the future of this business. That I am a future legend in the making. Samoa Joe is a fantastic athlete, but this is my time. My name will go down in the history books as the first ever NWA World X Division champion. No one gives more, night in and night out, to put on great matches, to pull out big victories. Whoever wins the Super X Cup knows that they’re going against the greatest X Division champion of all time. No one can take this belt from me, because I am AJ Styles, and I’m simply… phenomenal.” (Rating: 76%)

TNA Hardcore Championship: Homicide © vs. Monty Brown

Monty Brown’s head is still bandaged from where Homicide forked him on Sunday. The new Hardcore champion makes his way to the ring warily, and already carrying a chair, which he attacks the Alpha Male with as soon as the match begins. Monty Brown gets the feet up to avoid a charge in the corner and back suplexes Homicide onto the chair for a two count. The action spills to the outside, with Brown launching the smaller man into the ringpost. Homicide comes back with a trash can shot to the head that busts Brown open again, and he sets a table up at ringside. Homicide goes for a suplex off the apron, but Brown blocks it and suplexes him back inside. Brown gets a two count off a swinging neckbreaker, and another from a double underhook suplex. Brown lifts Homicide up for the Alpha Bomb over the ropes and through the table, but Low-Ki runs in and breaks that up with a kick and a ghetto stomp to the chest. The Rottweilers set Brown up on the top rope, and Homicide hits an Ace Crusher from the top through the table! Rhino and Sabu come out to protest the interference, but Ki drags his partner on top of Brown and holds off Rhino and Sabu long enough for Homicide to retain.

Winner and STILL TNA Hardcore Champion: Homicide (Rating: 79%)

Backstage, the camera shows the ‘Fallen Angel’ Christopher Daniels in his locker room. He sits in silence for a moment before beginning, “At Final Resolution, I ran into an old enemy. An enemy of mine greater than any opponent I’ve ever faced in that ring, an opponent who has blocked my path to greatness, to my destiny, far more often than anyone else. That opponent is time. I’ve all but lost track of the number of times I have been prevented from achieving my destiny by the clock, rather than by my ability. From the very day ROH began, I said I was destined to be its champion. Instead, during the match to crown the first ROH champion, even though I pinned Low-Ki and he didn’t pin me, he was declared the winner. Why? Because of time. I got my chance to win the title again and gain some revenge on CM Punk years later, again in Philadelphia, but again, the time expired before I could get the victory. On Sunday night I returned to Philadelphia, the city where I finally won this title, with one goal in mind: to walk out as the world champion. For a third time, I was denied by time.

“And it’s not the first time that this has carried into TNA. I remember at the first Bound For Glory, when AJ Styles beat me with just a few seconds left in an Ironman match. That was time screwing me over again. But one thing time hasn’t counted on is my skill as a wrestler, by determination as a person. There is only one belt I value as being even close to the belt I already wear in terms of importance, and that’s the NWA Heavyweight Championship of the World. I am the Fallen Angel, God’s gift to wrestling, and I will not rest so long as there is another who can lay claim to being the very best wrestler in the world. Samoa Joe, you know the history we have. None of it matters. The only thing that matters is that I hold onto this ROH World title long enough to get that second title shot I deserve, and go on to win the NWA World Heavyweight championship. And that’s not just the truth and that’s not just a fact… that’s gospel.” (Rating: 94%)

Chris Jericho & Christian Cage vs. Christopher Daniels & Samoa Joe

With everyone tagging with their scheduled opponent, the tension is high as we go into this big tag team main event. Samoa Joe starts for ROH against Christian Cage, after Jericho refused to step into the ring against Joe just yet. It doesn’t take long to see why, as Joe’s temper hasn’t been helped by his loss to Styles at Final Resolution, and he smashes straight into the NWA World champion with chops and kicks. Christian tries to hit a crossbody, but Joe catches him and simply hurls him at Jericho, knocking him off the apron. Joe goes to pick Cage up, but Jericho angrily rakes Joe’s eyes and chokes him over the ropes, earning an admonishment from the referee. Christian takes advantage of the opportunity to drop Joe with a short backbreaker and wear him down with a chinlock. Joe fights up and suplexes Cage down, so Jericho tags in and hits a flying back elbow to take the big man off his feet again. Jericho hits a quick legdrop and a couple of elbows before going for the Walls of Jericho, but Joe powers out and tags in Daniels. The Fallen Angel takes Jericho down with a Blue Thunder Bomb and follows up with an Arabian Press. Daniels lifts Jericho up for a Death Valley driver, but Jericho fights out and hits the Breakdown, tagging out to Cage. Cage hits a gutbuster and locks in a Texas Cloverleaf, and Joe just stands and watches until Daniels looks like he’s going to tap out, when Joe breaks the hold. Joe beats down Cage viciously, but Jericho looks hesitant to stop it. Eventually he enters the ring and runs straight into the STJoe. Joe and Jericho fight out of the ring as Daniels goes for the Best Moonsault Ever, but Christian avoids it and Daniels eats canvas. Christian goes for the Unprettier, but Jim Cornette jumps up onto the apron, and Cage breaks the move to knock Cornette down. Daniels quickly capitalises, attacking Cage from behind and hitting the Last Rites! He then pins him with his feet on the ropes to pick up the win.

Winners: Christopher Daniels & Samoa Joe (Rating: 92%)

Overall Rating: 79%

OOC: So my entire computer crashed and died killing every last one of my precious, precious files. This is a pretty major inconvenience. I don't plan to give up on this diary, but it's going to take time to get my PC working properly again, downloading EWR again (along with stat updates), and messing about with the file editor to try and get all my game stats back to where they were from memory. So this'll be on hiatus for a while, but hopefully I'll be back with the start of the Super X Cup soon.

(OOC: Well, it took over a week, but I've got everything back online and redone all of my game data. It'll probably show in the results that things are still being adjusted a bit (Xplosion this week, for example, has no match ratings since I booked it before the computer crashed and lost the data - hell, I'm not even 100% certain that those matches actually happened) but by Against All Odds, everything should have sorted itself out again, barring further disaster.)

TNA News and Notes (from www.grapplefanatics.net)

Xplosion results (for January 27th, 2007)

- Necro Butcher defeated Eric Young in his debut match by making Young tap out to the Asiatic Spike. After the match, Young ran away.

- Team Canada cut a promo putting themselves over and saying Petey Williams was going to win the Super X Cup. Then Eric Young showed up and said a 'crazy mountain man' was coming to kill them all. They ignored him.

- Nigel McGuinness defeated Roderick Strong in a Super X Cup first round match with the Tower of London.

- Lacey’s Angels defeated Havana Pitbulls with the Doomsday Rana on Romero when Lacey interfered.

- Ron Killings cut a promo lamenting his loss to Simon Diamond on Impact and saying he was determined to turn things around with a win over Chris Jericho on Impact this week.

- Austin Aries defeated Jimmy Rave in a Super X Cup first round match with the 450 Splash.

TNA iMPACT! Preview for February 1st, 2007

from www.tnawrestling.com

THE RETURN ENCOUNTER

This week on TNA Impact from Universal Studios in Orlando Florida, the show will be headlined by a rematch from a few weeks ago. It will be the Saviour of TNA, Raven, pitted one on one against Vampiro of the New Church! The feud between these two sides has been building over the last few weeks, with Raven challenging 'The Monster' Abyss to a singles match, a request that was denied by James Mitchell. Instead, it will be Raven and a partner of his choice against both members of the New Church at Against All Odds - but first, on Impact, Raven must get by Vampiro, who is said to still be seething from his loss a few weeks back.

Another big match for Impact was announced on Xplosion this week, as the challenger to the NWA World title at Against All Odds, 'King of the World' Chris Jericho, will take on Ron 'The Truth' Killings! Killings has been in a downward spiral as of late, suffering losses to Bryan Danielson at Final Resolution and Simon Diamond last week. Jericho assaulted his rival Jeff Jarrett last week, and that feud could play a factor in this match.

The Super X Cup began on Xplosion this week with two first round matches, as Nigel McGuinness and Austin Aries proceeded to the quarter finals. Two more wrestlers will advance to the next round on Impact, as CM Punk faces Petey Williams and Homicide battles Jay Lethal! It's all on the line for these young stars, as the winner of the tournament receives a guaranteed X Division title match.

Speaking of that title, 'Classic' Colt Cabana has been saying that his guest on 'Good Times, Great Memories' this week will be none other than the X Division champion himself, AJ Styles! Cabana introduced GTGM last week, but the first episode went disasterously as his guest, Jeff Jarrett, was attacked by Chris Jericho. What will Styles have to say heading into his huge match with NWA World Jr. Heavyweight champion Jushin Liger at Against All Odds?

All this, plus NWA World champion Christian Cage, 'The King of Old School' Steve Corino, 'The Alpha Male' Monty Brown, Samoa Joe, Rhino and more! So don't miss Impact this Thursday night on Spike TV at 8pm as the road to Against All Odds continues!

Match listing:

Super X Cup First Round: Homicide vs. Jay Lethal

Bobby Roode vs. Necro Butcher

Super X Cup First Round: CM Punk vs. Petey Williams

Monty Brown vs. Steve Corino

Chris Jericho vs. Ron Killings

Raven vs. Vampiro

Guest KDP McFly

Absolutely great, I have been a huge ROH fan and think that it is a great storyline. I do have one question though when you do the interviews in EWR and you say you have cornette and daniels and then talk to Larry Zybsko how do u do that? Do u just do a tag interview and then have the other person be Zybsko or how? Same goes for the latest one with Zybsko and Cornette interupting did you just give each an interview against the other? I will definitely keep following this.

(OOC: I tend to put people into segments however I like without worrying too much about what the game says. In fact, the very first angle I booked in this diary (Daniels' speech at the open of the first Impact) was interrupted by like three or four people when it was booked as a straight Daniels interview. Most Zbyszko/Cornette segments are booked as an 'Authority vs. Authority Confrontation' angle.)

iMPACT! (February 1st, 2007)

Super X Cup First Round: Homicide vs. Jay Lethal

Impact opens this week with the Hardcore champion making his way to the ring for a Super X Cup match against the young up-and-comer Jay Lethal. Lethal fires off some suplexes to start and follows up with a leaping leg lariat, catching Homicide off guard. Lethal hits a short arm gutbuster and spins into a gutwrench suplex, nearly getting the quick three count on Homicide, who comes straight back with a big lariat for another near fall. Lethal drops Homicide out of the ring and goes for a suicide dive, but the Notorious 187 cuts him off and hits his own tope con hilo. Back in, Homicide gets a two count off a big belly to belly suplex. Homicide sets up for the Cop Killer, but Lethal flips out and goes for the Dragon Suplex, only for Homicide to hook his leg around the bottom rope to prevent Jay from hitting the move. Lethal hits a spinebuster and goes up for the diving headbutt, but spends too much time arguing with Julius Smokes on the outside, allowing Homicide to catch Lethal on top and hit the avalanche Ace Crusher to score the victory.

Winner: Homicide (Rating: 69%)

On the Good Times Great Memories set, Colt Cabana is talking on a disconnected telephone. "I understand. Yes, it's very important, a tough decision to make. OK. I'll make it extra anchovies. Have it here within 30 minutes and I'll let you keep half." He 'hangs up'. "How ya doing? Colt Cabana here, and I know last week's show didn't go too well for me, but I'm confident I can get things back on track this week. So ladies and gentlemen, welcome to 'Good Times, Great Memories'!" The GTGM logo flashes up on the screen. "I've got a great show for you this week, trying to get back into the TNA spirit, and this week I have as my guest someone who not only embodies TNA's X Division, but who I've actually wrestled and beaten in the past, so I'm less scared of him! That's right, this week's guest is the X Division champion, AJ Styles! He'll be on in just a little bit, but first, there's something I'd like to get off my chest.

CM Punk, it just seems like you're not going to let this little issue between us go, are you? Punker, I thought we were friends, we were brothers, that I could rely on you when I needed to, and you turned around and stabbed me in the back. Or... I turned around and you stabbed me in the back. Whatever. The point is, Punk, I'm offering you a chance to come on the show next week and explain just why you turned on me at Final Resolution. I know you've never appeared on Good Times Great Memories before, even though I've tried to get you to make an appearance so many times in the past, but just think about it." AJ Styles walks into shot, carrying the X Division title over his shoulder. "Anyway, I'd like to keep talking but the producer has just told me that AJ Styles has arrived, and he's ready to come on the show. So without further ado..."

"I'm standing right here."

Colt pauses. "... without further ado, please welcome AJ Styles to Good Times, Great Memories!" He claps as AJ takes a seat. "So, AJ, I just want you to know I'm a big fan. Kind of upset about the way you keep stealing my moves, but that's OK."

"Whoa, whoa," AJ interrupts. "What do you mean, stealing your moves?"

"Well, you know that thing you do where you get on the top rope and sort of fly off, you know, the Spiral Tap? Yeah, I invented that. Don't worry, it's cool. I stopped doing it 'cause I didn't want to overshadow you." Styles looks skeptically at Cabana's 240 lbs frame, but Colt continues undeterred. "Anyway, I know you've got a big match at the PPV coming up against Jushin Liger, I'm sure all these fans wanna know what your thoughts are heading into this match."

"Well, obviously being the first ever NWA World X Division champion would be a huge achievement for me personally, certainly I think that when the NWA endorses a belt as a World title, it really makes it special. That's why I've left the X Division in the past to go after the NWA World title. I'm excited about the prospect of facing Liger, just to see if I can really beat someone as legendary as he is and prove once and for all that I am the best X Division wrestler in the world, bar none."

"I dare say it'll even be Classic, just like me. Anyway, that's all we have time for, there's a match about to take place in the ring, so let's take you back to Impact." (Rating: 76%)

Bobby Roode vs. Necro Butcher

The Team Canada member is already in the ring when we cut back, accompanied by Eric Young (who is hiding) and Scott D'Amore. Necro Butcher is quite a sight as he heads to the ring, with wild hair, bare feet and a shirt proclaiming 'CHOOSE DEATH'. Clearly bigger than Team Canada's big man, Necro starts the match with a slugfest that he quickly wins. West mentions that Young convinced Roode to face Necro after Young's match with Necro on Xplosion, so that he'd 'stop having nightmares'. Necro continues to dominate Roode, fighting around the ring and repeatedly smashing him into the ring steps, ring post, barricade, and fellow Canadians. Back in, Roode comes back with hard stomps and a big neckbreaker for two. He goes to a chinlock, which Necro soon fights out of, but Roode comes back with the Northern Lariat for a two count. The Canadian Enforcer hits a big boot, but Necro comes right back with a big clothesline and punches him down in the corner. Necro locks in the Asiatic Spike, with Eric Young looking on in terror and running away as D'Amore tells him to interfere. Roode quickly taps as a result.

Winner: Necro Butcher (Rating: 61%)

Backstage, Shane Douglas is standing by with the 'War Machine', Rhino. "This is the Franchise, and I'm here with a man who feels he hasn't been getting the opportunities he deserves as of late, Rhino. What do you think about some of the recent events including your loss in the big Hardcore title match at Final Resolution?"

Rhino isn't listening. "Aah! Raargh! Homicide! You wear that Hardcore title around your waist and you think you're the tough gangster, huh? You think you're some kind of street thug? Well let me tell you, no one, and I mean no one, stands in the path of the War Machine and walks away! I leave a trail of destruction behind me wherever I go! No one on this planet can go face to face with me without getting their ass kicked! Sure, you won at Final Resolution, but you never beat me. I should be wearing that Hardcore title, not you! So how about at Against All Odds, you go one on one with me, no DQs, no rules, just me and you, and if you bring any of your little buddies to ringside, I'll beat the hell out of them too. I'll leave you laying in a pool of your own blood and take what belongs to me when I hit you with the GORE! GORE! HOMICIDE! RAARGH!" Rhino stamps off. He sure does yell a lot in his interviews, doesn't he? (Rating: 79%)

Super X Cup First Round: CM Punk vs. Petey Williams

Punk looks angrier than usual as he comes to the ring, as Tenay comments that he must be annoyed by Cabana's comments on GTGM earlier in the show. Petey is accompanied by just D'Amore, with Roode and Young presumably fighting Necro Butcher somewhere. Punk jumps Petey at the bell, viciously beating him down before switching to some headlockery. Williams comes back with a Canadian legsweep and gets two off a quick legdrop. Punk fights out of a Sharpshooter attempt and connects with a TKO, followed by a Shining Wizard as Petey tries to get to his feet. Punk hooks the arms, looking for the Welcome to Chicago, but Petey backdrops him and hits a DDT. Punk counters a Destroyer attempt, though, and hits a superkick before going to the Anaconda Vice. D'Amore helps Petey get a foot on the ropes. Punk signals for the Plunge, but Colt Cabana appears on the entrance ramp! Punk takes too much time arguing with Cabana and so doesn't see Petey sneak up behind him and roll him up for the three count! Cabana laughs at Punk, then turns and runs as Punk chases him to the back.

Winner: Petey Williams (Rating: 71%)

Gary Michael Cappetta is standing by with the Samoan Submission Machine, Samoa Joe. "Joe, you are set to challenge Christopher Daniels in the first ROH World title match for several months, the first ROH title match to take place on pay-per-view, and the stakes can't get much higher as the winner will go on the face the NWA World champion to unify those titles. Even for you, Joe, the pressure has to be incredible."

"Pressure? There's no pressure. All I have to do to become the ROH World champion once again is defeat Christopher Daniels. I'll admit, I've been off my game recently, ever since I lost the X Division title to AJ Styles. But I've beaten Daniels more times than I can count. I spent the whole of last year beating his ass! I'll admit, Daniels is a hell of an athlete. I'll respect anyone who wears that ROH World title, because I know how much that belt means, I'm the one who made it what it is. And sometimes, he came real close to beating me. He's been a split second away from beating me a whole bunch of times. But other times, the referee's had to stop the match just to make sure I didn't kill him. That belt always has, and always will belong to me. And Christopher Daniels, get it into your head now like you should have last year: you will never beat me. Because I am Samoa Joe, and I am pro wrestling." (Rating: 66%)

Monty Brown vs. Steve Corino

The Alpha Male takes on the leader of the Extreme Horsemen in a match that doesn't take long to degenerate to a slugfest, with both men known for their brawling skills more than anything. Corino uses armdrags to try and take advantage of his superior technical skill, as Simon Diamond looks on from ringside. Brown hits a big double underhook suplex for a two count. He works over Corino with a chinlock, but Corino fights out with a neckbreaker and gets two off the Old School Plex. Monty hits some big right hands, but the King of Old School avoids a charge and nails the Corino Driver for another near fall. Corino sets up for the Old School Bomb, but the Alpha Male fights out and hits a backbreaker for two. Then Brown sets up for one of his own finishers, the Pounce, causing Diamond to grab Brown's leg from the outside. Monty drags Diamond into the ring and delivers the Alpha Bomb before throwing him back to the outside! With Brown distracted, though, Corino removes his elbow pad and nails a huge lariat as soon as the Alpha Male turns around. The Old School Expulsion finishes it moments later.

Winner: Steve Corino (Rating: 67%)

The Franchise is standing by with NWA World champion Christian Cage. "Christian, last week we found out that you will have to defend your title against Chris Jericho for a third time at Against All Odds, with the winner going on the unify the title with the ROH World title. What are your thoughts heading into this potentially huge match?"

"Well, Franchise, I think we all know my history with Jericho already. He's a man I've known for years, I've wrestled him many times, and I've beaten him many times. Right now I'm not concerned with guys I've beaten, I'm concerned with guys I haven't beaten, and that's you, Chris Daniels. Maybe you think I walked away from Final Resolution saying to myself 'Well, I didn't win but at least I've still got my title', but if you think that's how I feel, then you're dead wrong. See, wearing this belt does not make me a champion. Going out to that ring night after night and busting my ass to keep on wearing it is what makes me the world champion. I don't know if I would have managed to kick out of that Angel's Wings in time or not, and we'll never know. But this belt is too important to me to have the time limit decide that I keep it. If you pin me 1-2-3 in that ring, I will hand you this belt and proclaim you to be the better man. I've got no problem with that. So you make sure you win your match at Against All Odds, 'cause I plan to win mine. And when it comes down to us two, I'll show you why I'm the true world's heavyweight champion... because that's..." The fans finish for him as he walks off. (Rating: 82%)

Chris Jericho vs. Ron Killings

Jericho heads to the ring with an arrogant sneer on his face, yelling at the camera about how he's the one Christian should be worried about. He pretty much ignores the Truth, instead choosing to argue with the crowd. Killings gets his attention with a slap across the face, then ducks a right hand and connects with a leaping leg lariat. A flying clothesline takes Jericho down for a two count. Killings tries to press the advantage, but Jericho flips out of an attempted suplex and rolls up Killings for two. Jericho nails a springboard dropkick, sending the Truth to the outside, and follows up with a plancha. The King of the World rams Killings into the ring post before rolling him back into the ring and delivering a series of hard chops. Jericho goes for a double powerbomb, but as he attempts to lift Killings up for the second powerbomb, the Truth counters with a hurricanrana! Killings fires off some big right hands to Jericho's face, trying to build momentum, but when he bounces off the ropes Jericho catches him out of nowhere with the Flashback! Jericho hits the Lionsault and scores the pinfall.

Winner: Chris Jericho (Rating: 85%)

As Jericho celebrates in the ring, Jeff Jarrett makes his way to ringside! Even though he's still walking with a crutch, he looks ready for a fight, and Jericho challenges him to get in the ring with him. Jarrett does so and they have a staredown until Larry Zbyszko heads out and stands between them.

"Now hold on just a second! Jarrett, may I remind you that you are not cleared to wrestle for a least a few more weeks? You can't just come to the ring whenever you feel like it, you've got to stay in the back and concentrate on healing up! And as for you," he continues, turning to Jericho, "the reason I'm out here is to tell you that I have just the perfect way of making you responsible for your actions. Thanks to you, Jeff Jarrett is unable to wrestle when we need him the most. That's your fault, Jericho. So here's what we're going to do. I said last week that I had little choice but to name you number one contender to the NWA World title, but don't expect things to be easy for you. Because not only do you have to defeat Christian Cage, but Jeff Jarrett will be the special guest referee!" Jericho loudly protests the decision, but Zbyszko ignores him. "Be sure to call it right down the middle, Jeff." Jarrett heads backstage with a big smile on his face as Jericho throws a tantrum in the ring. (Rating: 71%)

Raven vs. Vampiro

James Mitchell sends both members of the New Church out into the crowd to find Raven before he makes his entrance. Raven manages to surprise Abyss, though, diving from the stands onto him! Raven rains punches down on the Monster as Vampiro makes his way over to him. Raven throws a chair at Vampiro and spears him down, but Abyss pulls him off and drops him with a body press slam onto concrete. Abyss sets up a chokeslam, but Raven scores with a field goal kick between the legs and hits him with a chair shot. Vampiro attacks from behind, and they brawl their way to ringside to finally start the match. The Living Vampire chokes Raven down before stomping away at him, taking the time to pose for the fans. The New Church member hits a big powerbomb for a two count. Raven tries to fight back with some right hands to the face, but runs into a sidewalk slam for another two count. Vampiro wears Raven down with a sleeper, but Raven eventually fights out and hits a Russian legsweep. Raven hits a big clothesline, a bulldog, and a thrust kick in succession, getting a close two count. He sets up for the Evenflow DDT, but James Mitchell gets up on the apron, distracting the referee. This allows Abyss to enter the ring and take Raven out with a chain shot! Vampiro quickly hits the Nail in the Coffin and scores the three count. After the match, the New Church continues to beat down Raven until the Sandman runs out and cleans house on them with his Singapore cane! James Mitchell runs away with a look of fear on his face as Sandman stands tall in the ring, the announcers picking up on the fact that he must be Raven's chosen partner for Against All Odds.

Winner: Vampiro (Rating: 77%)

- Many inside sources in TNA have expressed surprise with the speed at which Necro Butcher has gone from being signed to the main roster, skipping development while other CZW stars such as Chris Hero and Ruckus are still in NWA Tennessee. Management is said to be high on Necro's work, as there is a feeling that he could help greatly improve the currently floundering Hardcore division. TNA's current view is that they shouldn't focus on old ECW stars and the like for the Hardcore division, and instead focus on newer faces from the indy circuit. This is why the belt was put on Homicide at Final Resolution despite the Sandman's debut. Some members of TNA's booking team consider the Hardcore division to have truly started with the first Monster's Ball match back at Victory Road 2004, given the number of extreme style matches that have appeared on TNA PPVs since then (for example, the other Monster's Ball matches and the Barbed Wire Massacre match at Turning Point 2005). TNA hopes to introduce aspects of CZW's 'ultraviolent' style to draw fans of that promotion to TNA.

- Scott D'Amore is embroiled in some controversy backstage in TNA. There have been arguments between him and the rest of the booking team regarding the Super X Cup. D'Amore is pushing for Petey Williams to win, despite the premise of this year's Super X Cup being to showcase some of the newer faces who fans may not have seen before. As a TNA regular for several years now, Williams was not originally considered as a potential winner. D'Amore's arguments are generally being dismissed as influenced by personal bias. D'Amore is also reportedly unhappy with the way Team Canada are being portrayed in their feud with the Necro Butcher, feeling that a newcomer shouldn't be going over TNA's established names.

- At a recent NWA Tennessee show, the Carnage Crew dropped their NWA Tennessee Tag Team titles to the debuting Basham Brothers. The Bashams were released by the WWE a few months back and TNA had been interested in signing them, but were forced to wait until the end of the 90-day no compete clause. They are expected to remain in development before being called up, though.

- Also at the NWA Tennessee show, Traci Brooks successfully defended her NWA World Women’s title against Lacey. This marks the first time such a defence has taken place on a TNA sanctioned show, and may mean TNA is closer to introducing a women’s division on the main roster.

TNA iMPACT! Preview for February 8th, 2007

from www.tnawrestling.com

TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION

This Thursday on Impact, TNA delivers exactly what we always claim to deliver – Total Nonstop Action! With three title matches, you won’t be able to miss this week’s episode on SpikeTV.

In the main event, Team Canada’s Petey Williams will challenge ‘The Phenomenal’ AJ Styles for the TNA X Division championship! Team Canada’s coach Scott D’Amore requested this match, claiming that AJ Styles did not deserve to go into the huge unification match with NWA World Jr. Heavyweight champion Jushin Liger at Against All Odds and that Williams did. Can the Canadian Destroyer unseat the champion?

Also at Against All Odds, Shane Helms and Shannon Moore will finally get their rematch for the NWA World Tag Team titles against America’s Most Wanted. In a preview of that, Helms will face ‘Wildcat’ Chris Harris in singles action on Impact. Helms & Moore are out for revenge due to being put out of action, but AMW have proven in the past that they will do anything to win.

Another huge tag match that will take place at Against All Odds will be The New Church of Abyss & Vampiro vs. Raven & The Sandman. Sandman was revealed as Raven’s partner last week when he saved Raven from a New Church beatdown. The two men have a long history, and not everyone can believe they are truly on the same page again (including James Mitchell, who is calling for the PPV match to be cancelled). To test this, TNA officials have signed them to take on one of ROH’s top teams, the Embassy, to see if they can work together as a team and help score another win in the TNA/ROH war.

On Xplosion, Nigel McGuinness demanded his rematch for Colt Cabana’s ROH Pure title, a challenge Cabana accepted. CM Punk has also accepted Cabana’s invitation to appear on Good Times, Great Memories, so this Thursday could be an interesting night for the Classic One.

All this, plus the ROH Tag titles will be on the line as the Briscoes defend against Generation Next of Austin Aries & Roderick Strong; the final two first round matches of the Super X Cup will take place; NWA World Champion Christian Cage, ROH World Champion Christopher Daniels, Jeff Jarrett, Samoa Joe, The Rottweilers and more! So be sure to tune into SpikeTV this Thursday at 8pm to see TNA Impact, the true wrestling alternative!

Match listing:

Super X Cup First Round: James Gibson vs. Ron Killings

ROH Pure Championship: Colt Cabana © vs. Nigel McGuinness

iMPACT! (February 8th, 2007)

Super X Cup First Round: James Gibson vs. Ron Killings

Impact kicks off this week with another Super X Cup first round match, pitting ROH's James Gibson against Ron 'The Truth' Killings of TNA (who, incidentally, won the 2006 Super X Cup when we stole ROH’s Survival of the Fittest concept… boy, did we get heat for that one). Killings takes control early in the match, taking down Gibson with a series of armdrags and a big calf kick to the face, sending the Redneck Messiah to the outside. Gibson avoids a plancha attempt, but Killings lands on the apron and comes off with a flying clothesline. Killings rolls Gibson back inside, but Gibson gets the drop on the Truth and stomps him down hard. Gibson hits some hard forearms to the Truth's face and a big neckbreaker for two. Gibson tackles Killings down and stomps hard on his head, which only seems to piss off the Truth. He starts to fight back with right hands and chops, but Gibson wrenches in a chinlock to wear him down. Killings fights out with a jawbreaker and scores with the Truth Conviction, but can't make the cover. Killings hits a big back suplex and a running forearm for two. Gibson hits a spinebuster and goes for the Tigerbomb, but Killings fights out and hits the Axe Kick to get the three count.

Winner: Ron Killings (Rating: 78%)

ROH Tag Team Championships: Briscoe Brothers © vs. Generation Next

The Briscoes waste no time getting into it with Aries and Strong, as the announcers mention that the two teams feuded over the titles for much of 2006 with the Briscoes getting the big win to retain at the last Glory By Honor. The Briscoes quickly throw out Strong and get to work double teaming Aries, hitting a dropkick/running boot combo in the corner before the referee finally forces Mark out to the apron. Jay hits a hard T-bone suplex and stomps away, quickly tagging out to Mark. Both Briscoes beat down Aries in the corner with chops and punches until Strong breaks it up. Aries catches Jay with a side slam and tags Strong, who takes out Jay with a Yakuza kick. A big backbreaker put Jay down for a two count. Jay catches him with a high knee and hits a sitout suplex slam before tagging out to Mark. The younger Briscoe springboards in and catches Strong with an ace crusher for a near fall. A fisherman's suplex gets another two count for Mark. Strong counters a clothesline into a half nelson backbreaker, though, and follows up by hauling Mark up into the fireman's carry and dropping him with the gutbuster! Jay breaks the pin with a legdrop from the top rope. Mark whips Strong into the ropes, but Aries blind tags himself in and they drop Mark with the Hart Attack. Jay takes out Strong with a springboard dropkick and they brawl to the outside. Aries goes for the 450 Splash, but Mark rolls out of the way. That leaves Aries open for the Cut-Throat Driver and the three count to allow the Briscoes to retain.

Winners and STILL ROH Tag Team Champions: The Briscoe Brothers (Rating: 73%)

Aries offers a handshake to Mark, and it looks like he might accept... but before we can find out, Homicide and Low-Ki jump them from out of nowhere! The Rottweilers beat down both men while the Havana Pitbulls and Julius Smokes arrived to take care of Jay and Roderick. Smokes gets in the ring, carrying his trademark baseball bat, and grabs a microphone. "You better believe that! Yeah yeah yeah! Right here, the most powerful force in professional wrestling, the Rottweilers! RUFF! RUFF!" He barks like a dog and growls for a bit before continuing. "You have Homicide, the most hardcore man in wrestling today! You have Low-Ki, soon to reclaim his title as king of the X Division! You have one of the greatest tag teams going, the Havana Pitbulls! And you got me, the Devil's son-in-law himself, the J-Train! Oh yeah! We gonna open the gates of hell once again, take over this two-bit wannabe promotion and run things the way they oughta be! Oh yeah! ROTTWEILERS!" He makes some more sounds that, quite frankly, defy transcription before the group leave. The fans seemed to regard Smokes as some random crazy guy who was hanging around with Homicide and Low-Ki for no real reason, and to honest, I can't blame them. (Rating: 54%)

ROH Pure Wrestling Championship: Colt Cabana © vs. Nigel McGuinness

Nigel seems in a serious mood as he heads for the ring, in sharp contrast to Cabana's usual jovial demeanour. They lock up to start, exchanging holds with both men making full use of the European style. Cabana holds onto an armlock for a while, but Nigel cartwheels out and hits a big European uppercut. A front chancery wears down the Pure Wrestling champion, as Nigel riles up the crowd with taunts like a good heel. Nigel locks in a cravate, then converts it into a snapmare and a kick to the back of Cabana's head. The challenger cinches in a headlock, but Cabana uses the creative ass-grab counter, sending Nigel to the outside. Cabana goes for an Asai moonsault, but Nigel knocks him off the apron and sends him into the ring steps. Back inside, Cabana uses his first rope break to escape from a modified cobra clutch. Nigel decides to switch his focus to Cabana's left arm, wrenching it down painfully and following up with the Guvnor's Crumpet for a two count. Nigel put on a hammerlock bearhug, stretching Cabana to put all of the pressure on the elbow, before executing an overhead armbar takedown. A jujigatame costs Cabana his second ropebreak, and a Fujiwara armbar takes away his final one a few moments later. Seeing his chance, Nigel quickly locks in the Thames Barrier, but Colt refuses to quit, eventually rolling to the outside. Cabana hits a lariat on the outside and goes up for the Asai moosault attempt again, but Nigel again prevents it, this time by throwing a chair at the champion! Cabana crashes to the floor while the referee reprimands Nigel and removes one of his ropebreaks. Behind him, though, CM Punk jumps out of the crowd and brains Cabana with a vicious chairshot, this one right to the head! Desperately Cabana tries to pull himself up the ring steps and back into the ring, but Nigel catches him and hits the Tower of London off the top of the steps and onto the concrete! Nigel rolls back in as the referee reaches the end of the 20-count. Since the Pure title changes hands via countout, Nigel McGuinness has regained the title!

Winner and NEW ROH Pure Wrestling Champion: Nigel McGuinness (Rating: 76%)

Super X Cup First Round: Bryan Danielson vs. Chris Sabin

Tenay references the Showdown in Motown, to my quiet delight. He really is the Professor, by God. Sabin and Danielson exchange forearms in the early going, with the American Dragon getting the better of that exchange. Sabin fires back with a dropkick, though, and staggers Danielson with some hard kicks. He takes down Dragon with a swinging backbreaker, and then an enzuigiri. A running powerbomb gets two for Sabin. He charges into a vicious roaring elbow from Danielson, though, and gets hits with a big German suplex. Danielson starts wrenching Sabin's arm over the ropes, pausing the remind the referee that he has till FIVE before stomping on the shoulder of Sabin. He twists Sabin's arm further than would normally seem physically possible, in typical Danielson fashion. Dragon sets up for the Mexican surfboard, but can't get Sabin up, so instead he simply stomps down on Sabin's knees. Danielson ascends the turnbuckles, looking for the diving headbutt, but Sabin catches him up there, pulls him down into the tree of woe, and then delivers the big dropkick to the face. Sabin pulls Dragon out of the corner, lifts him up into the Canadian backbreaker rack, and then drops him over and spins into a DDT! That only gets a two count, though. Sabin goes for a tornado DDT, but Danielson throws him off and catches him with a belly to belly suplex out of nowhere. He locks in the Crossface Chickenwing, but Sabin's too close to the ropes. Sabin hits another enzuigiri and goes for a clothesline, but Danielson catches him with a Dragon suplex and gets the three count.

Winner: Bryan Danielson (Rating: 74%)

Backstage, we see the Good Times Great Memories set, but we don't even get an intro as Punk is already there and arguing with Cabana. "Dammit, Punk, you just cost me the Pure title!" Cabana yells, his head bandaged up from where Punk busted him open earlier. "No one asked you to interfere, no one wanted you to ruin a perfectly good match, why can't you just stay out of -"

Punk talks straight over him. "You think I wanted to do that, huh Colt? You think I enjoy helping freaking Nigel McBritish win matches? I'm trying to help you, Colt. You're a great wrestler, I'll admit that, but you're not serious! We were losing tag matches because you didn't have your head in the game! You need to focus!"

"And you costing me the Pure title, how does that help me Punk? You sure you weren't just jealous of the fact that I was winning the big singles matches and you weren't? Maybe the reason we were losing tag matches wasn't because of me, it was because of you!"

"Oh, that's what you think, is it?"

"You're damn right that's what I think. You know what else I think? I think you've always thought you were better than me, because you won the ROH World title and I didn't, because you were the one in the big grudge matches and main events while I was stuck in the midcard. You've always assumed that you were better than me, better than everyone else, and you just couldn't stand it when I beat you in your last ROH match, when I went on to bigger and better things after you left, became a bigger star than you ever were, Punker! Admit it!"

"No, I won't admit that because it's not true. I don't think it's a question of me being better than you, Colt, I think that's obvious. Because I don't spend matches, serious title matches, goofing off. Because I'm serious in that ring. You don't want to see that. And honestly, Colt, I'm not mad at you. I just feel sorry for you. Because at Against All Odds, it's going to be me and you, one on one, and I'm going to show you that I am straight edge and better than you."

"Me and you, one on one, live on pay-per-view in front of the world," Cabana agrees. "No excuses. May the best man win."

"Don't worry, I will," Punk says as he leaves. (Rating: 72%)

The Embassy vs. Raven & The Sandman

Shelley and Rave look more than a little apprehensive about getting into the ring with their opponents, but Nana 'encourages' (or threatens, however you want to look at it) them to get on with it. The Embassy play Rock, Paper, Scissors to decide who starts. Shelley loses and starts against Sandman, throwing a few forearm shots to little effect before tagging out to Rave. Sandman shrugs off Rave's pathetic attempt at offence, and so Jimmy tags straight back out to Shelley. Alex has no better luck this time than before, but this time Rave drops off the apron to avoid the tag. After a quick psyche up from Nana, Shelley turns... and gets floored by a big haymaker from the Sandman! Sandman beats down Shelley, getting a two count off a piledriver. He tags out to Raven, who unloads on Shelley with jabs before hitting a discus clothesline for two. Shelley reverses an Irish whip, and Nana grabs Raven's foot from the outside, allowing Shelley to attack from behind. He tags in Rave, and the Embassy execute a nice spear/shoulder block combo. Rave hooks up Raven's arm and leg for Ghanarea and hits it, following up with a big knee to the face for two. Rave goes for the Rave Clash, but Raven backdrops out of it and scores with a thrust kick. Shelley tries to interfere, but gets met with a clothesline from the Sandman, and they brawl to the outside. Raven hits the Evenflow inside the ring and gets the three count for the win. It doesn't take long for the New Church to make their presence felt, though, as they invade the ring and beat down Raven. Sandman tries to fight them off, but eats Black Hole Slam from Abyss as the New Church leaves their Against All Odds opponents laying.

Winners: Raven & The Sandman (Rating: 75%)

In the ROH Commissioner's 'office' (for want of a better word - obviously the ROH Commissioner doesn't have an office at a TNA show so they're more just standing around backstage) Christopher Daniels and Jim Cornette are arguing. "What do you mean I don't have a match tonight?" Daniels demands. "I was told all the ROH titles were on the line tonight, and in case you've forgotten, I'm the ROH World champion. I'm the guy who's supposed to be leading our locker room, so how about you start letting me know what's going on."

"I did! Didn't you get the memo?" Cornette is, of course, not someone you want to get into a shouting match with, and he's demonstrating why here. "I made sure the ROH World title wasn't on the line because I didn't want an unstable situation heading into the pay-per-view. I was expecting some kind of thanks, not more goddamn complaints! What do you want from me, Daniels?"

"Look - forget it. Just forget it. I'm going home." The camera follows Daniels as he heads towards the parking lot, but on the way he runs into someone he didn't expect to see - Samoa Joe! "I didn't expect to see you, Joe" Daniels comments helpfully.

"Hey, champ. I was hoping I'd catch you before you left. Just a little reminder - you had so many chances to beat me and take that X Division title from me last year. You failed over and over again. At Against All Odds, I finally take back the title that belongs around my waist. For 21 months of my life, I defended that title against all comers. You've had that belt for just four months, and you've yet to defend it against anyone. Christopher Daniels, you are a joke as ROH World champion. If we're ever going to win this war, I need to take that belt from you. I need to take back what's rightfully mine."

"That's what you think, is it?" Daniels' eyes are full of anger as he answers. "You think I'm a joke as champion? You think that this belt means something to you because you held it for a long time? For five long years, I told the world that it was my destiny to be ROH World champion! You will never understand the pain, the hardship, everything I sacrificed to try and fulfill that prophecy. And I finally fulfilled that destiny. You think I don't want to be going out there, night after night, proving that this belt means that I'm the very best wrestler in the world? I never wanted the show I won the belt on to be the last ROH show, but none of us had a choice in the matter. I am telling you now that it is my destiny to lead ROH to the promised land, it is my destiny to be the NWA World Heavyweight champion, and that is the gospel according to the Fallen Angel!" (Rating: 81%)

Chris Harris vs. Shane Helms

Harris is accompanied by James Storm and Gail Kim, while Helms is seconded by Shannon Moore. They lock up to start, with Harris overpowering the smaller Helms, but Helms hits a headscissor takedown and a jumping clothesline for a two count. Helms hits a crossbody and goes for a Shining Wizard, but Harris rolls to the outside. Helms planchas out onto both members of AMW and continues to attack. Gail Kim distracts the referee, though, allowing Storm to attack Helms from behind and ram his head into the ring post. Moore attacks Storm as Harris rolls Helms back into the ring and drops a big elbow, now firmly in control. The Wildcat locks in a Sharpshooter on Helms, wearing him down, but Helms manages to reach the ropes. Harris chokes his opponent down and rains punches down on him. He meets Helms' boots on a charge into the corner, though, and then a superkick for a two count. Helms goes up for a flying crossbody, but Harris catches him and goes for the Catatonic, only for Helms to swing around and counter into a crucifix pin! 1-2-3, Helms gets the victory!

Winner: Shane Helms (Rating: 71%)

Backstage, Jeff Jarrett makes his way into the locker room (still using a crutch) where he finds the NWA World Heavyweight champion, Christian Cage. "Hey, champ," he says. "How are you doing?"

"Pretty good, thanks. Listen Jeff, I just wanted to make sure we're on the same page with this big title match coming up. I know you're the special guest referee, and I know that you and Jericho don't exactly get along. I mean, you want revenge for what he did to your leg. I get that. And I'm sure you'll get your chance when the doctors clear you to wrestle again. But Jeff, this is my title. I don't want anything to get in the way of me showing Jericho once and for all that he's not on my level. OK?"

"I understand. At Against All Odds, I've only got one job to do and that's be the referee for the title match. And you can rest assured that I'll call it right down the middle. Of course, if that son of a bitch tries to provoke me, he'll get what's coming to him and I won't be held responsible for that. As long as he concentrates on that match... I'll count the falls and call the submissions just like any other ref."

"Good. Then we're on the same page." They shake hands as Christian leaves. (Rating: 80%)

TNA X Division Championship: AJ Styles © vs. Petey Williams

The two men start the match exchanging strikes, with AJ wearing Petey down with kicks while Team Canada's captain fires back with some Canadian Violence. Petey blocks a spinning back kick, but AJ whirls around and hits an enzuigiri, following up with the Pele kick to take control. Styles hits a pumphandle gutbuster, sending the challenger rolling to the outside where he receives a backflip plancha. Petey reverses an Irish whip into the guard rail, but AJ puts the breaks on and comes back with a leaping clothesline. AJ rolls Petey back in and hits a springboard 450 splash that only gets two when Petey puts a foot on the ropes. AJ whips Petey into the ropes, but Williams comes back with a tilt-a-whirl into a Russian legsweep (or is it Canadian legsweep?) and a quick legdrop. Petey is slow to get back to his feet, but scores with a dropkick and a DDT for a two count. A slingshot elbow drop gets another near fall. Petey goes up for a crossbody, but meets a dropkick from the X Division champion. Both men are down, with Petey getting up first. Styles flips out of an attempted back suplex, though, and hits one of his own. He lifts Petey up in the Torture Rack and spins into a powerbomb for two. AJ signals for the Clash, but Petey backdrops out of it and sets up the Canadian Destroyer. AJ sweeps the legs, though, and rolls into a Jackknife pin for a close two count. He rolls back over, though, and hauls Petey up... into the Styles Clash! It connects, and gets the three count to retain. AJ poses with the belt in the ring as Tenay asks "Can anyone in the world take that title from him?" and Impact goes off the air.

Winner and STILL TNA X Division Champion: AJ Styles (Rating: 82%)

- Chris Harris recently criticised TNA in a radio interview, saying he was unhappy with TNA's general direction and his current place within the company. He claimed that the tag titles were not being given the focus that they deserved and that TNA should be trying to exploit WWE's relatively weak tag division by showcasing their own tag teams. TNA management is said to be less that happy with Harris' comments, feeling that if Harris had a problem, he could have settled it within the company.

- Colt Cabana 'Good Times, Great Memories' t-shirts are one of the new fastest sellers at TNA's merchandise stands and online at www.shoptna.com. The recent Cabana segments on Impact were meant to test Cabana's potential as a singles competitor, and management is pleased with the response they have been receiving. They are expecting to continue although their prominence will likely be reduced.

TNA iMPACT! Preview for February 15th, 2007

from www.tnawrestling.com

WHEN THE CHIPS ARE DOWN

Be sure to tune in to the last episode of TNA Impact before the huge Against All Odds pay-per-view spectacular! This Thursday on SpikeTV, you will see a preview of this Sunday’s double main event as the NWA World champion Christian Cage and the ROH World champion Christopher Daniels team up for the first time ever to take on their respective Against All Odds challengers, Chris Jericho and Samoa Joe! This will be the last chance these men have to gain an advantage before the big title matches on Sunday, so expect some intense action in this week’s main event.

Another huge match this Sunday will pit the New Church against the team of Raven & the Sandman, and Director of Authority Larry Zbyszko has just announced that due to the violent nature of the four men involved, there will be no disqualifications in that match! The Sandman has challenged Vampiro to face him one on one in a standard rules match on Impact, but with Abyss, James Mitchell and Raven at ringside, it could well degenerate into a brawl.

The Super X Cup will continue on Impact, with the last two quarter final matches taking place. Low-Ki will take on Sonjay Dutt, and in a rematch from Final Resolution, Ron ‘The Truth’ Killings will take on Bryan Danielson! Be sure also to check out the Super X Cup semi finals, which will take place on Xplosion the night before the PPV, to give the competitors the minimum amount of time to prepare for their opponent.

Shane Helms & Shannon Moore will finally get their rematch with America’s Most Wanted at Against All Odds, but first on Impact, they must make it past the Enforcers of CW Anderson and PJ Polaco. Word is that AMW arranged this match with the leader of the Extreme Horsemen, Steve Corino, who despises TNA management and would obviously benefit from the NWA Tag titles remaining in AMW’s hands. Helms & Moore may have to fight just to survive and make it to their tag title shot this Sunday!

All this, plus AJ Styles, CM Punk, a TNA Hardcore title match featuring Homicide defending against Roderick Strong of Generation Next, Team Canada’s Eric Young on Good Times Great Memories with ‘Classic’ Colt Cabana, and more! So don’t miss Impact this Thursday night at 8 pm on SpikeTV!

Match listing:

Super X Cup Quarter Final: Low-Ki vs. Sonjay Dutt

TNA Hardcore Championship: Homicide © vs. Roderick Strong

The Enforcers vs. Shane Helms & Shannon Moore

Super X Cup Quarter Final: Bryan Danielson vs. Ron Killings

The Sandman vs. Vampiro

iMPACT! (February 8th, 2007)

Super X Cup Quarter Final: Low-Ki vs. Sonjay Dutt

Impact kicks off this week with a Super X Cup quarter final, pitting Low-Ki of the Rottweilers against the Original Playa from the Himalaya. They circle one another to start, trading kicks in a battle that Dutt can’t possibly win, and realizing this he quickens the pace with a big dropkick and a rana for two. A satellite headscissors followed up by a standing moonsault gets another near fall for Sonjay. Dutt tries to build some momentum, but gets tripped from the outside by Julius Smokes and then nailed in the back with a HUGE front dropkick by Ki, sending him to the outside. Ki follows up with a somersault plancha and proceeds to just kick the crap out of poor Sonjay on the outside. Back in, Ki catches Dutt with a springboard enzuigiri and goes up top, but Sonnjay manages to avoid the Ghetto Stomp and score a step-up headscissor takedown. Both ment o their feet, and Sonjay hits a quick dropkick to try and keep Low-Ki off balance, but gets caught with a stiff clothesline. Taking advantage quickly, Ki hauls Sonjay up in the fisherman’s carry, rams his head into the corner with the Krush Rush, and then plants him with the Ki Krusher – Sonjay is dead.

Winner: Low-Ki (Rating: 79%)

Backstage, Shane Douglas is standing by with Generation Next. “Guys, last week you were attacked by the Rottweilers after a tough ROH Tag title match against the Briscoes, but tonight you get a chance at some revenge when Roderick Strong challenges Homicide for the Hardcore title.”

“Last week, the Rottweilers attacked us while we were down,” Roderick says as Aries and Sydal nod in agreement and Evans kind of wanders around in the background. “But this week, the playing field will be level. See, we’re not here to play games, Shane Douglas. We’re not here to fight for TNA or ROH any more. We’re only here to fight for ourselves. And the only reason they don’t get rid of us is because they can’t afford to. We say that we’re the best, and we go out to prove it night after night. And the people pay their money to see it. That’s why we’re free to do what we want.”

Aries takes the microphone. “We are the most talented group of individuals in all of ROH. That’s why we’re headed straight for the top of the wrestling business. We’ve already proven that we were the best in ROH, and now we’re after the top spots in TNA. And we’ll get them after I win the Super X Cup tournament, and go on to become the X Division champion. But for tonight, Rottweilers, you want to stand in our way? We’ll show you exactly why we’re the number one team in wrestling today.”

They head to the ring, but just before the camera cuts away, Jack Evans comes back and adds, “And you know this… MAN!” (Rating: 57%)

TNA Hardcore Championship: Homicide © vs. Roderick Strong

Gen Next don’t even pretend to attempt fairness here, with all four of them coming to the ring together. The Rottweilers respond in kind, and officials quickly come out to send Aries, Evans, Sydal, Ki and the Pitbulls to the back (though Julius Smokes remains through the awesome power of refusing to shut up). Homicide argues with the referee over this decision, and so gets caught with a Yakuza kick from Strong to kick things off. Strong tosses Homicide out of the ring, sending Smokes running as he goes to grab a chair and nail the Hardcore champion with a vicious shot. Homicide regains the advantage with a thumb to the eye and drags Strong into the crowd, repeatedly ramming his head into the guard rail before suplexing him on the entrance ramp for two. Homicide sets up for a piledriver, but Strong backdrops out and whips Homicide into the ring apron before slamming him hard on the floor. Back in the ring, Strong lifts ‘The Notorious 187’ up in a fireman’s carry and drops him into the gutbuster, following up with a running single-leg dropkick for two. The two men exchange chops, with Roderick getting the better of the exchange, but Homicide catches the arm out of an attempted lariat and turns it into an Ace Crusher for two. Homicide sets up the Cop Killer, but Strong counters into a half-nelson backbreaker for a near fall. Strong signals for the end, so Smokes nails him with a baseball bat, and that allows Homicide to nail a big lariat to retain. Afterwards Homicide and Smokes beat down Strong until the rest of Gen Next run them off.

Winner and STILL TNA Hardcore Champion: Homicide (Rating: 79%)

We go backstage to Colt Cabana on the ‘Good Times, Great Memories’ set. “How you all doing? ‘Classic’ Colt Cabana here, and it’s time for Good Times, Great Memories, live from Chicago, and I’ve got just the perfect guest this week! Flying in all the way from Canada, this week’s guest is Eric Young! Give him a big hand, folks!”

Cabana applauds as Eric Young sits down, cautious as usual. “Eric, it’s great to have you on the show… difficult to get you on the show, in fact, I practically had to drag you through the door. You want a glass of water of something?”

“No, I’m good.”

“Well, like I said, great to have you on the show. Now I understand you’re nervous, being on a big time talk show like this, but I know all your fans are wondering some of the things I’m wondering, so if I could just ask you a few questions… so, you’re Canadian. How’s that working out for you?”

“Um… well, actually it’s pretty good. You know, we have better social security than America, a more interesting flag, and best of all, a cooler national anthem! O CANADA -”

“OK, that’s great,” Colt interrupts, holding his hand to an imaginary earpiece. “So anyway, I’m being told by the producer that my other guest has arrived, he’ll be here in a little bit -”

Eric stops in his tracks. “Other guest? Wh-what do you mean, other guest?”

“Well, originally it was going to be just you, but this guy happened to be passing and I heard he was a good friend of yours – give it up for the Necro Butcher!”

Necro shows up, causing Eric to scream like a little girl, jump behind his chair and grab something out of his pocket. “Get away from me!” Eric cries. “You think you’re so tough, you won’t be laughing when you have to take on me and Bobby Roode in a Handicap match at Against All Odds! Stay back! I’m warning you, I came prepared with mace this time!” He holds up a mace canister and promptly sprays it into his own eyes, collapsing to the ground and crying. Colt looks at Necro, who just shrugs and walks off. Judging by the crowd reaction, they all saw that episode of My Name Is Earl, too. (Rating: 64%)

The Enforcers vs. Shane Helms & Shannon Moore

Helms & Moore get a good pop as they come out, but the Enforcers waste no time laying into them with right hands and forearms. The ref gets it down to Anderson and Moore as the announcers theorise that AMW must be paying close attention to this match. Wow, really. Anderson hurls Moore over with an exploder suplex and stomps away at the arm. A single arm DDT takes Moore down as CW works over the arm with an armbar. Moore tries to fight back, but Polaco blind tags in and axehandles Moore’s outstretched arm. Polaco scores with a spinning DDT and goes back to the arm, locking in a cross armbreaker until Moore finds the ropes. Anderson tags in off an arm wrench and applies one of his own, but Moore connects with a Northern Lights suplex for a near fall. Anderson tries to pull Moore away from his corner, but the Prince of Punk scores an enzuigiri and gets the hot tag. Helms cleans house with dropkicks and a big superkick on Anderson for a two count. Helms takes Anderson down with a stranglehold legsweep and follows up with a shining wizard for another near fall. Polaco comes in illegally, nailing a superkick of his own. Moore tries to crossbody Polaco, but gets caught and hauled up… into the That’s Incredible! Helms dropkicks Polaco out of the ring and takes out Anderson with the Nightmare on Helms Street to get the victory. AMW run out afterwards to attack, pummeling down their future challengers, with the Enforcers helping out until Team 3-D run in to make the save, chasing the NWA Tag Team champions to the back.

Winners: Shane Helms & Shannon Moore (Rating: 73%)

Gary Michael Cappetta is standing by with CM Punk. “Punker, in recent weeks we’ve seen your tag team with Colt Cabana disintegrate, and you face him one on one at Against All Odds. Just how has your relationship with your tag partner and best friend fallen apart so quickly?”

“Just in case you’ve forgotten lately, GMC, I’m a former ROH World champion,” Punk answers. “I’m an ROH legend, but am I getting treated like one? No. I’m the one who should be facing Daniels on Sunday, but I’m not. Colt Cabana has been holding me down for too long. Every time I step into that ring, I’m focused on one thing, and that’s winning. All he cares about is goofing around and having fun. But I’m not mad at him… I just feel sorry for him. Because this Sunday, I’m going to show him exactly how serious I can be. And it’s going to be just another step on my road to the top, where I belong.” (Rating: 83%)

Super X Cup Quarter Final: Bryan Danielson vs. Ron Killings

Danielson arrogantly shoves Killings down from a lockup, clearly confident that he can duplicate his Final Resolution victory here against the Suntanned Superman. They lock up again, with Danielson taking Killings down from a waistlock and slapping the back of his head. The Truth comes back with a slap across the face, and it’s on as they exchange forearms all around the ring. Killings gets the upper hand, but runs straight into a roaring elbow that sends him into the corner. Dragon monkey flips him out and hits a dropkick, but gets caught with a leaping leg lariat for a two count. Killings whips Danielson into the corner, but the American Dragon moonsaults over him and catches him with a release German suplex. Danielson locks in a Mexican surfboard, wrenching the Truth’s head down to apply extra pressure. Dragon goes up, perhaps looking for the diving headbutt, but Killings superplexes him down. The Truth gets back to his feet first, hitting a flying forearm for a near fall. Killings goes for the Axe Kick, but Danielson avoids it and goes for the Cattle Mutilation. Killings is on to him this time, though, and drops his weight, countering into a rollup… and gets three! Killings quickly rolls out of the ring and Danielson is in shock at being outsmarted by the Truth!

Winner: Ron Killings (Rating: 82%)

A video plays on the Cartertron, showing highlights of reigning X Division champion ‘The Phenomenal’ AJ Styles. It then shows more clips of Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger. “At Against All Odds…” the deep-voiced announcer dude says, “the TNA X Division champion AJ Styles faces the NWA World Jr. Heavyweight champion Jushin Liger in a battle of two of the greatest high-fliers in the world today. Now there are two champions… this Sunday… there will be one.” Got the point across. (Rating: 69%)

The Sandman vs. Vampiro

It doesn’t take long for this match to degenerate into a slugfest, with both men exchanging punches. Vampiro sends Sandman staggering into the ropes with a big forearm, but Sandman bounces off and uses the momentum to charge back with a clothesline that sends Vampiro out of the ring. They brawl outside the ring, with Vampiro being rammed into the ring post a few times before Sandman decides to pose for the crowd. Vampiro avoids a charge, though, and Sandman sends himself into the post. Vampiro quickly breaks the ten count before rolling outside again, launching Sandman into the ring steps and following up with a side slam on the concrete floor. Sandman fights back with big right hands to the face, rolling Vampiro back into the ring. Sandman heads up top, but misses a diving legdrop and eats powerbomb from the Living Vampire, but it’s not enough to put the Hardcore Icon away. Now it’s Vampiro’s turn to go to the top rope, but he gets caught up there and thrown off by the Sandman. A piledriver gets a two count for Sandman, and now James Mitchell is on the apron, distracting the referee! Sandman shoves him down, and turns straight into the Nail in the Coffin! That gets the victory for Vampiro.

Winner: Vampiro (Rating: 74%)

‘The Franchise’ Shane Douglas is backstage with Chris Jericho. “Jericho, we are just a few days away from your chance to become NWA World Heavyweight champion, but to do it you’ll not only have to get past the champion Christian Cage, who has beaten you twice already, but also perhaps past the special referee, your sworn enemy Jeff Jarrett.”

“Don’t you think I know what’s going on here? Don’t you think I know that the NWA Board of Directors, Larry Zbyszko, and TNA management are so determined to keep the belt on their golden boy Cage that they have to stack the deck against me and make sure that I don’t win? Why else would they put a jealous, self-obsessed jackass like Jeff Jarrett in the match if they didn’t want to make sure that I lose? Well let me tell you something, it’s not going to happen. This might be my last chance to prove that I am better than Christian Cage, that I am the living legend that I proclaim myself to be. And if Jeff Jarrett tries to get in my way, maybe I’ll put him out of action for another couple of months, snap his other ankle like a twig! Because no matter what… I will be the NWA World Heavyweight champion. And I will go on to beat whichever of those ROH losers is their champion and unify the titles. I mean, who knows more about being an undisputed champion than me? It’ll be just one more accomplishment in my legendary career as the King of the World.” (Rating: 90%)

Chris Jericho & Samoa Joe vs. Christian Cage & Christopher Daniels

Jericho starts against Christian, with the two men staring each other down. Christian dares him to throw the first punch, so Jericho calmly walks away and tags in Joe, as West calls mind games. Joe lays into the NWA champion with hard kicks, and Christian wisely heads for the ropes. They lock up properly this time, and Christian takes Joe down with an armdrag, but Joe quickly fights his way up and breaks with an enzuigiri. Cage staggers back into his corner and Daniels tags in, leaping over the ropes and charging at Joe with a series of forearms. He deals Joe an enzuigiri of his own and whips him into the corner, but gets met with a big STJoe. Joe ignores Jericho’s tag offer, instead delivering the Joe Combo to the Fallen Angel. That only gets a two count, though. This time Joe does tag out to Jericho, who arrogantly slaps Daniels’ head before suplexing him and using the cocky pin, which Daniels easily kicks out of. Jericho chops Daniels back into the corner, but the ROH World champion comes out with more forearms and an STO before tagging in Christian. Captain Charisma takes down Jericho with clotheslines and a big flapjack, nailing a gutbuster for a two count. He dropkicks Joe off the apron and tries to plancha out onto him, but gets caught and rammed spine first into the ring post. Joe throws Cage back in, where he quickly gets locked in the Walls of Jericho. Christian manages to hold on, though, and fight his way to the ropes. Jericho slowly pulls Christian up, but gets surprised with a jawbreaker, allowing Daniels to tag in. Daniels unloads on Jericho, getting two counts off a blue thunder bomb and a Death Valley driver. Daniels hits the STO and goes up for the Best Moonsault Ever, but Joe shoves him down, crotching him on the top turnbuckle. This draws in Christian, who fights with Joe on the outside, while Jericho hits a back suplex from the top that can’t quite put Daniels away. Jericho lands on his feet out of an avoided Lionsault attempt, but gets kicked in the gut and set up in Angel’s Wings position… but he counters out and rolls Daniels up, grabbing hold of the ropes to secure the three count! Jericho runs away laughing as Daniels and Cage look on angrily in the ring.

Winners: Chris Jericho & Samoa Joe (Rating: 86%)

NWA World Heavyweight Championship (Special Guest Referee: Jeff Jarrett)

'Captain Charisma' Christian Cage © vs. 'King of the World' Chris Jericho

Larry Zbyszko named Chris Jericho as the number one contender in somewhat controversial fashion, with Raven and Christopher Daniels both feeling they were more worthy of the title shot. In order to show that he wasn't playing favourites, the Director of Authority later named Jeff Jarrett (whose ankle was shattered by Jericho on Impact two months ago) as the special guest referee. The history between Jericho and Christian is well documented, but Jericho has never scored a major singles victory over the NWA World champion. Can Jericho finally claim the one major singles title in North America that has eluded him in his career?

IPB Image

ROH World Heavyweight Championship

'Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels © vs. 'Samoan Submission Machine' Samoa Joe

For most of 2006, Christopher Daniels tried unsuccessfully to take the TNA X Division championship from Samoa Joe, with Joe finally losing the belt to 'The Phenomenal' AJ Styles. Daniels has since led Ring of Honor in the war against TNA as the ROH World champion, but many of the ROH wrestlers have expressed discontent over Daniels' failure to defend that title. At Against All Odds, Daniels will have to prove that he is worthy of being the ROH World champion in next month's huge unification match against the NWA World champion, by taking on a man who he's never beaten.

IPB Image

No Disqualifications Match

The New Church vs. Raven & The Sandman

Raven's war against the New Church, which had seemingly ended back in 2003, was reignited recently and has led to several bloody battles between both sides. When the numbers advantage of the New Church proved too strong, Raven convinced fellow hardcore icon and longtime foe the Sandman to help him out, leading to this huge tag team match being booked. With Larry Zbyszko making it a no disqualifications match, with these four brawlers, expect a hardcore war the likes of which isn't usually seen in TNA!

IPB Image

NWA World X Division Championship (Unification Match)

'The Phenomenal' AJ Styles vs. Jushin 'Thunder' Liger

At Against All Odds, the first ever NWA World X Division champion will be crowned as the TNA X Division champion AJ Styles takes on the NWA World Jr. Heavyweight champion, the Japanese legend Jushin Liger! These are two of the top high-flying stars in the history of professional wrestling, and the winner of this match will unquestionably deserve to be the World X Division champion. Although AJ Styles has had a great run since defeating Samoa Joe back at Bound for Glory, has he finally met his match?

IPB Image

TNA Hardcore Championship

'The Notorious 187' Homicide © vs. 'The War Machine' Rhino

Homicide of ROH won the TNA Hardcore title back at Final Resolution after being entered as a surprise entrant in the huge six way Hardcore title match, pinning 'Alpha Male' Monty Brown. Rhino has been one of TNA's frontline troops in the war with ROH, and he says he is determined to bring the gold back to TNA where it belongs. This one should be a violent fight between two hardcore wrestlers, but don't count out potential interference from other members of Homicide's stable, the Rottweilers.

IPB Image

Lumberjack Match for the NWA World Tag Team Championships

America's Most Wanted © vs. 'Sugar' Shane Helms & 'Prince of Punk' Shannon Moore

Shane Helms & Shannon Moore upset America's Most Wanted back at Genesis to claim their first NWA World Tag title reign, only for Chris Harris & James Storm to regain the belts in a brutal No DQ match at Turning Point by selling out and joining ROH. AMW have been doing everything they can to avoid having to defend against Moore & Helms again, putting them out of action, but the former champs will get their rematch this Sunday, taking on AMW in a Lumberjack Match!

IPB Image

Super X Cup Final

'Personal Jesus' Austin Aries vs. 'The Strong Style Thug' Low-Ki

Over the past four weeks, high-flying X Division stars from both TNA and ROH have been competing in qualifying matches to determine the 2007 Super X Cup champion. The final match will take place at Against All Odds, pitting Austin Aries of Generation Next against Low-Ki of the Rottweilers. These two factions have been engaged in a mini-feud of their own in recent weeks, and that could explode depending on the outcome of this match! The winner of the tournament will receive a future shot at the prestigious X Division championship, so there's a lot on the line in this one.

IPB Image

Grudge Match

'Straight Edge' CM Punk vs. 'Classic' Colt Cabana

The Second City Saints tag team was broken up at Final Resolution when CM Punk turned on his tag partner and best friend Colt Cabana, assaulting him for 'not being serious enough'. Punk would later cost Cabana his ROH Pure championship and generally make life difficult for him. Cabana has recently starting hosting his own talk show segment 'Good Times, Great Memories' and generally been doing pretty well without Punk, something that must be making Punk angrier than ever. The two men will get a chance to settle their differences at Against All Odds, live on pay-per-view!

Pre-show Handicap Match: Necro Butcher vs. Team Canada ('Canadian Enforcer' Bobby Roode & 'Showtime' Eric Young)

Eric Young, well known for his paranoia and fearfulness, has been running scared since the Necro Butcher made him tap out a few weeks ago in Necro's debut match. You can hardly blame Young, though, as Necro Butcher is a fearsome man who seems to feel no pain and is undefeated so far in TNA. On the Against All Odds 30 minute free pre-show, Young and Team Canada teammate Bobby Roode will attempt to use the numbers advantage to hand Necro his first TNA loss... but will even that be enough to stop the TNA newcomer?

NWA World Heavyweight Championship (Special Guest Referee: Jeff Jarrett)

-Christian Cage. This is my hope, anyway. I wanna see Christopher Daniels win his match against Samoa Joe and begin a face-like run against the World Champ Cage only to have Jericho immediately get into a feud with Daniels once Daniels unifies. RoH is gonna lose this, obviously, because TNA wouldn't let their "brand" get smothered completely. The RoH belts are all gonna get unified or eliminated altogether I imagine, so it's only right that TNA's status quo doesn't change until the RoH/TNA war is over.

ROH World Heavyweight Championship

'Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels © vs. 'Samoan Submission Machine' Samoa Joe

-Christopher Daniels. Fallen Angel needs to go face, IMO, and this is a great place to start. Taking the win over Samoa Joe, the man he can't seem to beat, is a huge feat and will get him respect heat. There are several ways to take this, though. Daniels wins and stays heel and unifies the titles or he wins and goes face and either unifies or chases...but that depends on the winner of the main event.

No Disqualifications Match

The New Church vs. Raven & The Sandman

-The New Church. I have absolutely no care about this match. It's just the workers, though, I assure you. I love Raven...and that's it. Even my love for Raven can't bring that up. Team ECW will take the loss because, I imagine, I'm gonna have to see these guys lock it up again.

NWA World X Division Championship (Unification Match)

'The Phenomenal' AJ Styles vs. Jushin 'Thunder' Liger

-AJ Styles. Is it just me or does it feel like the X-Division's belt has zero behind it since Liger's not appeared? Oh well. You could shock, so to speak, and have Liger win and unify...but if this is typical TNA booking, AJ will unify the belts because that's what TNA's Golden Boy does.

TNA Hardcore Championship

'The Notorious 187' Homicide © vs. 'The War Machine' Rhino

-Homicide. Homicide's on a roll, and I think it's gonna bring him over Rhino. I'm pulling for him to continue in a bloody war here.

Lumberjack Match for the NWA World Tag Team Championships

America's Most Wanted © vs. 'Sugar' Shane Helms & 'Prince of Punk' Shannon Moore

-'Sugar' Shane Helms and Shannon Moore. It's only right, in my opinion, that Moore and Helms take this match and beat one of the best tag teams of the 2000s. This is the PPV where RoH starts to fall (doing it all on one PPV is a serious waste), so I think AMW need to be the first major loss for RoH.

Super X Cup Final

'Personal Jesus' Austin Aries vs. 'The Strong Style Thug' Low-Ki

-Austin Aries. This is a personal preference, but I think Aries has a bit more worth in the long term than Low-Ki. Him going after the X-Division Championship would be a fantastic feud...but I've got a sinking feeling Low-Ki's gonna get this deuce. Still...got my hopes.

Grudge Match

'Straight Edge' CM Punk vs. 'Classic' Colt Cabana

-CM Punk. While the storybook ending is that Colt Cabana teaches Punk some respect and they come to some sort of understanding, it just feels more like you've got bigger things in mind for the Punker. CM Punk beats Colt and moves on to bigger things.

Pre-show Handicap Match

Necro Butcher vs. Team Canada ('Canadian Enforcer' Bobby Roode & 'Showtime' Eric Young)

-Necro Butcher. I know to never count out a guy as nuts as the Butcher against two guys who, honestly, just ain't gonna know what to do against him. I suspect his streak will continue until he's either Hardcore Champion or he loses to the Hardcore Champion.

Guest TNA/WWE Fan

NWA World Heavyweight Championship (Special Guest Referee: Jeff Jarrett)

'Captain Charisma' Christian Cage © vs. 'King of the World' Chris Jericho

I can see Christian Cage picking up the victory here. You have built Christian Cage up nicely not letting him drop. I think Christian is going to win this match cleanly for a vicory over Jericho.

ROH World Heavyweight Championship

'Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels © vs. 'Samoan Submission Machine' Samoa Joe

Daniels needs this victory more. Daniels has been the king of ROH for a while and I can't see him dropping yet. I think the war will end the way it started with Christian and Daniels battling it out.

No Disqualifications Match

The New Church vs. Raven & The Sandman

I like both Vampiro and Abyss, but there is no doubting and The Sandman. I can see maybe a few sparks flying between Raven and The Sandman, but when it is all done I think Raven and Sandman will co-exsit.

NWA World X Division Championship (Unification Match)

'The Phenomenal' AJ Styles vs. Jushin 'Thunder' Liger

I rather see Liger win, but I find this ovbivious. I see this as the only way that the X-Division Championship would have a chance to change hands after the Super X Cup.

TNA Hardcore Championship

'The Notorious 187' Homicide © vs. 'The War Machine' Rhino

I think Rhino will get the title next month, but not tonight as I see Homicide getting pushed more before he drops the title to the war machine.

Lumberjack Match for the NWA World Tag Team Championships

America's Most Wanted © vs. 'Sugar' Shane Helms & 'Prince of Punk' Shannon Moore

2 memebers of 3 Count versus AMW? I like this a lot. Now the smart thing to do is say Moore and Helms will win. However, you need a good shock in the PPV and I think this is where it will happen.

Super X Cup Final

'Personal Jesus' Austin Aries vs. 'The Strong Style Thug' Low-Ki

Hard to say. Low-Ki and Aries are both awesome and deserve the X-Division Championship shot, but I think Aries has been pushed to much to let go this chance.

Grudge Match

'Straight Edge' CM Punk vs. 'Classic' Colt Cabana

Great match here. Punk and Cabana are both great wrestlers, but I think CM Punk is getting the victory here. I can see Punk wearing gold soon so I won't count him out.

Pre-show Handicap Match: Necro Butcher vs. Team Canada ('Canadian Enforcer' Bobby Roode & 'Showtime' Eric Young)

The obivious choice.

This PPV looks very good and I will review it when it gets posted.
