Music remixes / versions that are at least as good, if not better than the original!

So, the title says it all. Which remixes do you have that you feel are at LEAST as good as the original?

In no order...

Armand van Helden's remix of Tori Amos' "Professional Widow".

A dancey remix that actually works. About as good as the original, in very different ways...

Aphrodite's remix of Smoke City's "Underwater Love".

Great remixers with a dnb slant.

Apollo 440's remix of Puretone's "Addicted To Bass".

I quite liked the faux-break-beats of Puretone to begin with. A440 take it to a whole different level.

Aphex Twin's remix of Prodigy's "Breath".

As Breathe was meant to be...

Presidents of the USA's version of The Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star".

The original is classic, but I like this one as well. About as much.

Polysics' version of The Knacks' "My Sharona".

Another great original but Polysics make it a frenzied and hyper masterpiece.

No Doubt's version of The Vandals' "Oi To the World".

Gwen Stefani when she was in No Doubt + ska = great.

No Doubt's version of REM's "End of the World".

Don't get me wrong, The original is brilliant but No Doubt's is different enough to warrant making it. I used to like No Doubt surprisingly.

Muse's version of Nina Simone's "Feeling Good".

The lass has a haunting voice but Matt Bellamy and Muse blow it away in my opinion.

Mint Royale's remix of Gene Kelly's "Singing in the Rain".

Ahhh that great advert from last year. And the music was pretty good too!

Dirty Vegas' remix of Madonna's "Die Another Day".

One of Madonna's best tracks gets a better reworking.

Ladytron's reinvention of David Bowie's "Blue Jeans".

Very very loose relation but Ladytron rock.

FC Kahuna's remix of Felix da Housecat's "Silver Screen Shower Screen".

Makes me wanna go clubbing again.... :(

William Orbit's version of "Barber's Adagio for Strings".

Only piece of classical music to be given a decent dance remix. Which is surprising.

Aphex Twin's remix of David Bowie's "Heroes".

Actually magnificent. Much much better.

UNKLE's remix of Breakbeat Era's "Bullitproof".

Hardly the most well known though...

Aphrodite's remix of FatBoy Slim's "Rockafella Skank".

Just a straight-forward dnb mix which sits happily alongside the original.

Hybrid's remix of Andreas Johnson's "Glorious".

Hybrid make great and epic electro tracks. (They do the track used by ITV boxing).

Feeder's remix of The Police's "Can't Stand Losing You".

The Police were a great group, but this remix is still better than the original...

Well, off the top of my head I can name Red Harvest's "Dead Men Don't Rape" (originally by Global Genocide Forget Heaven), which takes a below-average metal track and turns it into a non-stop ride of slow punishment, Meshuggah's remix of Rammstein's "Benzin", which gives it a treatment similar to "Dead Men Don't Rape", and finally probably the Ed Rush remix of Adam Freeland's "We Want Your Soul", the song is just that much more threatening with the added speed.

The Reel Big Fish version of VKTRS beats the Buggles', and I liked Metallica doing 'Whiskey in the Jar' better than Thin Lizzy (admittedly, I didn't know it was a remix until recently).

Also, while it's not strictly on topic, I have liked Weird Al's parodies of some things better than the originals, for example Amish Paradise. My Bologna = WIN.

Feeder's remix of The Police's "Can't Stand Losing You".

It's a cover, not a remix. And it's good, but it's not a patch on the original, The Police were fucking awesome. There's a tribute album called Policia where a bunch of emo-type bands cover Police songs. Watashi Wa do an excellent version of Message in a Bottle, and Fall Out Boy did a fantastic job with Roxanne, it's seriously one of the best covers I've heard.

Fall Out Boy also did a nifty acoustic cover of Joy division's Love Will Tear Us Apart.

I also really liked Lostprophet's version of Cry Me A River, although their cover of Sweet Dreams My LA Ex was rubbish.

EDIT: Thinking about it, I'm sure someone (Liam?) had one of these topics before.

Yep, s'what I meant! :pinch:

The Police certainly were great though (Y)

Remixes:

Bring Me The Disco King by David Bowie (Lohner Remix)

Daft Punk Is Playing At My House by LCD Soundsystem (Soulwax Shibuya Remix)

Shesmovedon by Porcupine Tree (Tim Palmer Remix)

I don't consider any cover better than the original, because it's a different song in my eyes.

Guest Red XIII

I actually prefere Pearl Jam's "Last Kiss" to Wilson Frank & The Cavalier's.

I agree with Johnny Cash's "Hurt" and Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah."

I'd also add that I like Nirvana's version of "The Man Who Sold the World" to David Bowie's.

GNR's "Knocking on Heaven's Door," is in my opinion, better than Bob Dylan's, and Hendrix' version of "All Along the Watchtower" blows my socks off.

That's all I can think of right now, and although people might disagree with my choices, I just generally prefere the covers to the originals, not that I don't like the originals at all, though.

CSAMH, William Orbit did an entire CD of Classical mixes. Some are quite good. I don't know whether you've heard it or not? (In refersence to the 'only good classical mix' comment).

There's an 8 minute mix of Madonna's "Ray Of Light", I think it;s by William Orbit, I can't remember. That's pretty good.

Quite good in a cheesy way, but not a proper remix (Just using the riff of a song) is Moby's "Bittersweet Symphony" ('Remix')...good to attempt to 'dance to' when you've had a few.

And of course Jamiroquai...there's some awesome mixes of Jamiroquai songs;

You Give Me Something (Cosmos Deep Space Remix)

Deeper Underground (Instrumental)

High Times (Roger Sanchez Mix)

Canned Heat (White Label Remix/Funky House Remix)

Love Foolosophy (Kne Deep's re-edit)

Emergency On Planet Earth (London Rican Mix)

I could go on. I wouldn't say they were better than the original songs, but they're quite good depending on what mood you're in.

Are we doing cover's too?
