Songs that tell stories/morals

Some songs tell a straightforward story with the lyrics, instead of half a story or vague feelings. I thought I'd make this topic so we could talk about our favorites. And it doesn't have to be something like Coheed and Cambria either, interconnected with other songs. I'll start with Sic Transit Gloria by Brand New.

Keep the noise low, she doesn't wanna blow it

Shaking head to toe while your left hand does "show me around"

Quickens your heartbeat

It beats me straight into the ground

You don't recover from a night like this

A victim still lying in bed completely motionless

A hand moves in the dark to her zipper

Hear a boy bracing tight against the sheets barely whisper,

"this is so messed up"

Upon arrival the guests had all stared

Dripping wet and clearly depressed, he’d headed straight for the stairs

No longer cool, but a boy in a stitch, unprepared for a life filled with lies and failing relationships

(Up the stairs, the station where the act becomes the art of growing up)

He keeps his hands low, he doesn't wanna blow it

He's wet from head to toe and his eyes give her the up and the down

His stomach turns and he thinks of throwing up

But the body in the bed beckons forward and he starts growing up

The fever, the focus,

The reasons that I had to believe you weren't too hard to sell.

Die young and save yourself.

The tickle, the taste of...

It used to be the reason I breathed but now it's choking me up.

Die young and save yourself.

She hits the lights

This doesn't seem quite fair

Despite everything he learned from his friends, he doesn't feel so prepared

She's breathing quiet and smooth, he's gasping for air

"This is the first and last time", he says

She fakes a smile and presses her hips into his

He keeps his hands pinned down at his sides

He's holding back from telling her exactly what it really feels... like

He is the lamb, she is the slaughter

She's moving way too fast and all he wanted was to hold her

Nothing that he tells her is really having an effect

He whispers that he loves her, but she's probably only ready for...

(Up the stairs, the station where the act becomes the art of growing up)

so much more than he could ever give

A life free of lies and a meaningful relationship

He keeps his hands pinned down at his sides

He waits for it to end and for the aching in his guts to subside

The fever, the focus,

The reasons that I had to believe you weren't too hard to sell.

Die young and save yourself.

The tickle, the taste of...

It used to be the reason I breathed but now it's choking me up.

Die young and save yourself.

The fever, the focus,

The reasons that I had to believe you weren't too hard to sell.

Die young and save yourself.

The tickle, the taste of...

It used to be the reason I breathed but now it's choking me up.

Die young and save yourself.

Just basically the story of a young man that is cohersed into sex when he isn't ready.

But before I post another one, I'll let some other people go. I'll say some of my others include:

"Konstantine" by Something Corporate

"One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" by George Thurgood And The Destroyers

Doesn't every song tell a story?

I wont post lyrics. All these songs are from 1 album, "Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues" by Strung Out. The greatest Pop-Punk album of all time, IMO.

Bring Out Your Dead (Though personally I don't like the album version...the LIAD version rocks though);

"I just sat in my room and played my guitar all the time. My addiction was my music, and my illness was that I was just a total slave to it. I would spend eight hours a day writing songs, writing whatever.."

- Jim Cherry in reference to Bring Out Your Dead -RIP- (Yeah...that and blow, Jim)

Solitaire ;

Now this gets confusing, some say it's plain about bondage...the lead singer once said it was about security guards :shifty: but the general feeling is that it's just about a girl that he can't get over, and has to sit and wait for. Hence the tie-in with the name, "Solitaire" or "Patience".

Bah I can't be arsed to do anymore. Great album, if catchy-poppy stuff is up your street, check it out (IT'S MY WHORE FOR THE DAY GOD DAMNIT, I've restrained from it for a while).

G.G. Allin and the Scumfucs - Needle Up My Cock (The premise is that he fucked a girl and got VD. He had to go to a doctor where they stuck a cotton swab and a needle up his cock. The moral is don't fuck fat chicks with VD.)

The Wolfe Tonnes - The Merry Plougboy (A song about an Irish boy who is bored with his life of working on the fields. He is no longer content with being a civilian and decides to join the IRA. The song describes leaving his farm and woman, for a life of fighting for the IRA. Afterward he speaks of a free Ireland and his pending marriage with the woman he has come back to.)

The Ramones - 53rd & 3rd (The song was written by Dee Dee Ramone about his experiences with buying and selling heroin on 53rd & 3rd street in New York. The line "53rd & 3rd standing on the street, 53rd & 3rd, I'm trying to turn a trick" is symbolic of his turning tricks (literally) to accomplish his goal of getting his heroin fix.)

Black Randy and the Metrosquad - I slept in an arcade (A satirical look at Randy's experiences of sleeping in the local pornographic penny arcades. References are made to photos of Johnny Wadd, and how a person can have a lot of fun for 25 cents.)

Guest Anti-Hero

The Gambler - You got to know when to hold 'em / Know when to fold 'em / Know when to walk away / Know when to run / You never count your money / When you're sittin' at the table / There'll be time enough for countin' / When the dealin's done

Immortal Technique-Dance With The Devil:

Cuz I was there with Billy Jacobs and I raped his mom to

And now the devil follows me everywhere that I go

Infact I'm sure he's standing among one of you at my shows

And every street cypher listening to little thugs flowe

He could be standing right next to you, and you wouldn't know

The devil grows inside the hearts of the selvish and wicked

White, brown, yellow and black colored is not restricted

You have a self destructive destiny when your inflicted

And you'll be one of gods children and fell from the top

There's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot

So when the devil wants to dance with you, you better say never

Because the dance with the devil might last you forever

that's a song you'd have to listen to to understand, the moral: don't trade your sould to the devil

Immortal Technique-

What happened for the rest of the day is still a blur

But I remember wishing that I was dead, instead of her

She was buried on August 3rd

The story ends without a sequel

And now you know why Technique, don't fucking fall in love with people

Hold the person that you love closely if they're next to you

The one you love, not the person that'll simply have sex with you

Appreciate them to the fullest extent, and then beyond

'Cause you never really know what you got, until it's gone

there are plenty more, but i'm too lazy to post them

Speaking of iTech, Peruvian Cocaine tells a pretty interesting story about the path cocaine takes on its way to America/dealers.

I'll go with Jezebel by Dizzee Rascal, its about a big time slapper. And the dangers of being a bigtime slapper, especially being so young.

They call her jezebel

you might find her in your neigbourhood

Always in some shit

Up to no good

Constant boastin', braging to her friends

Juiced every boy in the ends

Didn't finish school

She was truant every day

Always on the link

Different boy every day

Missed mathematics, she was doing acrobatics

But not gym class

She was gettin' doggie fast

Yo, they call her jezebel

Friends call her skat behind her back

She never knew the plot

She was born off-track

Tight top short skirt thinks she's too nice

Hates love but she's been deep in twice

Pass with, oh she can't keep her legs closed

Always on the creep

Now she's in too deep

Now she faces neglect, abuse and rape

Man said he'd kill her

If she tries to escape

[Chorus]

Whats your name?

I've seen you about

I think your chung

I really hope your not a grim

I really hope your not a jezzy, jezzy

Where you from?

Hot stuff

I really hope your not a grim

I really hope your not a jezzy, jezzy

Jezebel, you might find her at a house rave

For the fifth time

She's gettin' whined from behind

Had a bit to drink

So she's acting kinda slow

She came with Natasha

But she's leavin' with Joel

Ricky loves Jezzy but Jezzy loves bling

Ricky means well but Ricky aint got a thing

Joel's got a name

And Jezzy loves fame

She wants a man to show

So it's all about Joel

They call her Jezebel

On her way to get worked out

Get battery

And get kicked out

Jezzy werent expecting more then four

What could she say?

She just did it anyway

Messed up caught a kinda STD

Gonorrhoea? Herpes? No - VD

Left bitter, left angry, left vexed

But still loves sex

Passed it on to the next

[Chorus]

Jezebel, pretty but ain't got a brain

Got no shame

Got juiced on the train

Went from daddy's little girl

To daddy's heart attack

House wreck, a side

She could never go back

Raised in the church

Not knowing anything

Learned about boys

Ruined every thing

Aged 16

She was never full grown

She was in a family

Now she's got one of her own

Two kids

Even worse

Two little girls

Two more of her

Thats two Jezebel's

Two fatherless kids

One single mum

No longer young

But the boys still come

Yo, wishin' she could take it back to the old school

And make better choices

Oh what a fool

Bottle by her side

And she wonders, man,

If only she was six years younger -Damn

Absolutely class song. I remember listening to that back when I was still really young, one of the main songs I remember.
