Saved By the Bell - Back In Production!

04/19/2006

Adult Swim has done it again! Following hot on the heels of Fox's Family Guy, Saved By The Bell has been pulled from cancellation with an order for 30 all new episodes taking place at Bayside High.

"We were ecstatic when we saw the early numbers on Saved By the Bell on Adult Swim," said Matt Laster, the VP of Turner Entertainment's newly created 80's Reclamation Department. "We knew this had the potential to be big, but we never thought it would be this big. The fans have really shown their support and come out in droves on the adultswim.com website."

According to Laster, the new series is still in development but he did say that almost all of the original cast would be returning, minus "Showgirls" star Elizabeth Berkley. The series will follow the events after Saved By the Bell: The New Class and find Screech as the new principal of Bayside and a retired Mr. Belding as the proprietor of the Max, the hangout that the Saved By the Bell gang frequented. Screech is overwhelmed by the new group of students and puts out a call for help, and soon, all of the old regulars are back at Bayside. Laster would not elaborate on the status of Zack and Kelly's relationship, though the couple were last seen walking down the aisle.

"I've spoken to the crew and they really can't wait to get back together," said Laster. "We think this will be a fun and exciting new direction for Adult Swim and we can't wait to find even more great 80's comedies for Adult Swim."

To anyone who read that and actually believes it.....here's your sign.

They only added Saved By The Bell to the line-up as a joke, in response to the people who complained about some of the other live action stuff that had been aired.

Mark Paul Gossalaer was on NYPD Blue already has a steady gig on Commander-In-Chief on ABC. And last time I heard, it hasn't been cancelled. So why would he leave a show on a big network to go back to playing a less mature character on a show that airs on cable in a late night slot?

And if you think about it, what would be the point in even doing a new series featuring most of the original cast? Sure, you could probably do some funny shit with Principal Screech, but unless Slater and the others have all become teachers or started running that restaurant they all used to hang out, then they really wouldn't fit in. "Screech gets overwhelmed, so he calls in the gang to help?" Let me see.....

Slater = Gym teacher, football and wrestling coach

Zack = Hall Monitor and in charge of running detention

Kelly = Helping out the cheerleaders

Lisa = Teaching Economics and Drama club

Jesse = off doing lesbian porn

It would be like all the Brady Bunch stuff they've done since the kids grew up: fun for about five minutes, then just sad.

I'd rather see a revival of Fastlane, with Mario Lopez and Dustin Diamond replacing Bill Belamy and the other guy.

(Seriously, though, fuck Fox for what they did to Fastlane.)

There's no way that's true. An "80's Reclamation Department"? How can that not be a joke? And also:

"I've spoken to the crew and they really can't wait to get back together," said Laster. "We think this will be a fun and exciting new direction for Adult Swim and we can't wait to find even more great 80's comedies for Adult Swim.

okay it is on right now. and in the bottom right corner where it usually says [adult swim] it says [the crappy 1980s live coverage network].... or something like that... i think that i got it right... but yeah that's funny. oh it's only 8 episodes. idk y i thought that it was 15... what i think will be funny is if it gets higher ratings then the rest of adult swim!!! lol.

EDIT: okay it was at commercial and i was just guessing it.. but it is back now and it says

[crappy 1980's live action tv show network]
