Fenerbahce deny Campbell rumours

Sol Campbell

Campbell has had a turbulent season

Fenerbahce have insisted they have not offered a deal to Sol Campbell.

Reports in British newspapers had suggested the 31-year-old Arsenal defender was the subject of an £8m bid from the Turkish side.

It was claimed that Campbell's representative had met Fenerbahce officials last week.

But a statement on the Fenerbahce website said: "Reports that Campbell will sign in the coming days do not reflect the realities."

Campbell scored Arsenal's goal in the 2-1 Champions League final defeat by Barcelona last week but he has had a troubled season.

He walked out after being substituted at half-time in a home game against West Ham in February.

And he has admitted that he has suffered a turbulent year, both with injuries and off-the-field problems.

Campbell, who is part of England's World Cup squad, is contracted to Arsenal for the next three years after he signed a new deal in 2005.

He won't go. Either we won't let him, or he won't want to, leaning towards him not wanting to. I can't see him leaving. Sure he's not as good as he was, but he's still good back-up and has the experience.

It was posted on the Fenerbahce site that "Reports Campbell is signing in the coming days don't reflect the realities"

Real Madrid said they had no interest in David Beckham, Ronaldo, and everyone else they signed, so don't take what a club says about players at face value.
