I dunno if you can call it a 'ballad' as such, but slower metal songs that I like include:

Machine Head 'Descend The Shades To Night' (or maybe it's 'Of Night', I can't remember)

In Flames 'Metaphor' (any metal band that wants to slow it down and stick a violin in there, can't really argue with that)

Ermm, I'm sure there are more I can think of, but they're two to get you started.

Also "I Died For You".

I hate you, I was going to suggest that.

Also for ballads, there's more from Metallica in The Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters. In My Darkest Hour by Megadeth is also kinda ballad-y, but not so much as Metallica's stuff.

All Edguy ballads are brilliant, obviously.

'Save Me', 'Scarlet Rose', 'Land Of The Miracle', 'Inside', 'Farewell', 'Forever', 'Roses To No One', 'When A Hero Cries', 'Wash Away The Poison', in fact, pretty much any Ballad Tobi ever wrote :P But especially the first five on that list.

Two of the best vocalists in the entire world. One song, one video. Rawk.

Other ballads I like:

Sonata Arctica - 'Tallulah' and 'Replica'

Dragonforce - I think I'm the only person in the entire world that likes 'Trail Of Broken Hearts' ¬_¬

Hammerfall - 'Glory To The Brave'.

Bruce Dickinson - 'Tears of a Dragon'

Of course I'm a girl. I have long hair and tits. ¬_¬

Highlighted songs are sodding awesome and some of my favourite metal ballads.

Oh, other Bruce goodness, though not really metal, "Acoustic Song" and "Darkness Be My Friend" aren't bad.
