Your 'Must Hear Songs' list?

I was kinda thinking of this as I was listening to 'Sweet Home Alabama' last night on the bus back home. Now, obviously there will be a mix as everyone has their own favourites and others will perhaps list songs that everyone, no matter what music they like, should listen to.

So what about yours, what do you consider to be 'Must hear Songs'?

"March Into The Sea" by Pelican.

See, I had a time recently when I was REALLY into Pelican, shortly after I first heard "City Of Echoes", got hold of all their albums, loved them. Now I can't listen to them anymore, purely because I realised the drumming was bland, and somewhat poor. And now, it's all I can hear when I try to listen to them. :(

The Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, I Know It's Over

The Velvet Underground - Heroin, Waiting For The Man

The Pogues - Streams Of Whiskey, Rainy Night In Soho, Fairytale Of New York, Lullaby Of London

Tom Waits - Christmas Card From A Hooker In Minneapolis, Alice

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Dead Flag Blues

John Coltrane - Blue Train

Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

Pink Floyd - Arnold Layne

Public Image Limited - Death Disco

I know there's quite a few, and I could probably go on, and on, and on, and on...but if I needed to make a mixtape to try (in vain) to introduce people to an overview of the kind of stuff I listen to, some of those would definitely go on there. I'm tempted to stick a lot more Waits, Pogues and Smiths on there, in fact. But basically, if someone likes all of those songs, they can't be a bad person.

Sting: Nothing 'Bout Me

Sufjan Stevens: Come On Feel the Illinoise!

This went on a bit but it's pretty hard to separate songs so I put quite a lot in.
