The creators have openly admitted to taking inspiration from multitudes of animes, and during one interview I think they even said one of their characters was inspired from Cowboy Bebop.

Can't quite remember off-hand, I'd have to re-watch the DVD's special features thing.

I know they also drew inspiration from Princess Mononoke, as well as a few others... like I said, I'll re-watch the special features and see.

Then God forbid if I find anything, ANYTHING in this that is remotely questionable as an anime. To deny at least one Avatar character an entry means that so many others shall follow suit, or at least, they had better, or you can guess who's booking plane tickets to come crashing through your window in the days following the revelation of characters in the game.
