Don't know what you're willing to spend or if this is what she would be looking for (stereo headphones) but these are the best pair I have EVER owned, just go them last week.. and holy shit. Also the retractable plug does wonders.

The Bose Quiet comfort series are by far the best, bought a pair and haven't looked back since. However they're insanely pricey. Keep in mind my pair wasn't as expensive as the new ones though.

If she wants a good pair of in ear headphones there's a nice pair from JVC. Tons cheaper.

Also, I like the cheap Gummi earphones, they last me about four months of every day listening, nothing special, just earphones but the sound is great and they're amazingly comfy, only £6 a pop now too, I don't tend to buy expensive ones because I break them too easily

etymotic research er6-i or something, had them, blocks outside noise the same way ear plugs do, so their compact. can also take a lot of abuse (as mine did). eventually broke when they went through the wash...and even then one side still worked.

my gf has sennheiser, but the thing comes with a giant brick to do the noise cancelling crap. ass

The sound quality and volume is superb.

I heard about those Skullcandy ones, tried them in store.. it's pretty cool that the earphones themselves on some models bounce with the bass... but I think they're ugly as sin and give out the "Ohh, I'm trying to be cool with skulls" image, blah.
