Recommend me some MegaDrive/Genesis games

Recommended Posts

So yeah, I bust out NHL '94 yesterday and almost creamed myself, and now I'm on a retro kick and I want you guys to recommend my games.

I've already got the obvious set with the likes of Sonic, Streets of Rage, some Disney games (Aladdin and Lion King). So recommend some hidden gems or ones I might have missed.

Probably, but I just have an emotional attachment to Desert. I had a free little DS novel that came with one of the old games magazines.

My memory is foggy of mega drive, so some of these games night not exist outside of my mind.

Shinobi?

Two Crude Dudes

Altered Beast

Was cannon fodder on the megadrive? Its probably better on PC anyway.

Some top down 4x4 racing game, you got power ups and shit. It was four player

MICRO MACHINES! The one with the cartridge with the extra control pad ports.

God, I'm racking my brain cell to remember these old games. I'm better at remembering SNES games.

Flashback

Zero Tolerance

Annnnd whoever said Cannon Fodder was better on PC is lying... in fact, Cannon Fodder I will always remember solely as an Amiga game for the epic opening music.

Edit - Megalomania! Spent hours on that in my youth. Atlanta '96 was awesome too.

Oh, and people who WANT a Mega Drive, but are worried about buying second hand... I direct you to this new product...

http://www.firebox.com/product/2331/Sega-M...-Player-Console

Yes, it's a brand new Mega Drive console. About a quarter the size of the original, multiregion, fifteen games built in, two controllers with it.

Fever Pitch was my very favourite football game. None of my friends would play it with me because it was such a chavvy game when you used the diving player.

And damn Keith, that firebox thing looks awesome, I might need to invest in one. *checks ebay for old games*

I have no idea what happened to my megadrive.

I have a Megadrive II packed away in a box, but its controllers are iffy (one requires hard mashing of the A/B/C buttons for it to register, the other works perfectly...except for the 'right' direction. <_<).

That appears to be a virtually the same as this thing from Amazon...but some people are slating it in the reviews, saying the preloaded games don't run properly and the controllers are shit.

Hmm. In theory I'd want to buy it, but I'm not sure.

Altered Beast is fucking awesome. Holy motherfucking shit I want to marry this game. So I'm a guy in pants, who's entire body mass increases with every power up (except my head, of course) and as far as I'm aware the goal of the game is to punch the heads off as many zombies as possible as well as occassionally punching two headed pigs and flying rats.

Seriously, this is the manliest thing ever.

NHLPA '93 was better.

Speedball 2 is one of the greatest games ever made.

The Toejam and Earl series is also fantastic. I also recommend Earthworm Jim, Splatterhouse 2 and the Road Rash series (why is there no 360/PS3 remake yet?!?!?).

Oh and the control pads on the Megadrive update arre fucking horrendous, either buy seperate pads or don't bother with it.
