Extremely poor showing by the Cosworth teams, out of the six of them only Barrichello got tenth.

Considering it was their first race in three years I'd say it was solid enough. Of all the Cosworth cars, only Williams were ever going to be capable of anything. Rubens scored points and the rookie Hulkenberg completed the race with no major issues.

You've gotta love the 'official' merchandise stalls that have popped up all over Melbourne, where you can buy a Jenson Button BrawnGP shirt, a Kimi Raikonnen Ferrari cap, a Heikki Kovalienen McLaren coat and for a princely AUS$7, a brand new Eddie Irvine No 4 Ferrari baseball cap. :shifty:

Oh dear oh dear. Virgin have had to apply to the FIA to install a bigger fuel tank (will require rehomoglation) as they've realised that their current tank is too small for them to be able to finish the race - around 12 litres too small.

/facepalm.

FIA approved the request on safety and reliability grounds. Should be in place in time for the European legs of the seasion. Expect all DNF's from them until then. Seriously, what an oversight by Virgin. They would have had this problem at other races too if they weren't fortunate enough to have their request approved.

Anyway, here are the results from P1.

Good to see Chandhok off to bottom and you have to applaud Scotsman Paul di Resta for his performance in place of Sutil. Rain is forecast for P2!

It drizzled a bit, nothing major. 1-2 from McLaren, Button fastest then Webber pulled a lap from nowhere to get 3rd with Schumi 4th. Bruno Senna didn't come out all session, so I was disappointed. :(

I do however, have a new found love of Vitaly Petrov, who seems to be pretty quick and also for taking a dive down the inside of Schumi on the penultimate corner, I know it was only first practice on Friday, but that takes some balls in your second GP.

so the FIA will turn down their request saying its 'too late to change a car design' and then react in shock when Virgin don't finish races.

FIA have accepted their request, but Virgin won't have the changes ready until Spain. So they're going to the next four races with the knowledge that they physically cannot reach the chequered flag.

Virgin and HRT are embarrassing to watch right now. I can't recall two worse debuts since Mastercard Lola in 1997...

Virgin seem to be faster than Lotus though, they just lack the same level of reliability.

Lewis Hamilton has apologised for driving in an "over-exuberant manner" after he was stopped by Australian police on Friday.

The McLaren driver did a burnout and a fishtail in a Mercedes car along Lakeside Drive in Melbourne and as a result he was pulled over by police.

According to local media, Hamilton, whose car was impounded, will be fined and charged on summons with improper use of a vehicle.

The Briton said in a statement on Friday evening that he was sorry for what he considered to be a 'silly' mistake.

"This evening, I was driving in an over-exuberant manner and, as a result, was stopped by the police," said Hamilton.

"What I did was silly, and I want to apologise for it."

de la Rosa is a completely selfish ass. I don't think Massa got one decent rub in thanks to him.

If anyone cares, tomorrow I'm aiming to be right at the front of the crowd on the inside of turn three, I'll be right above the Shell logo on the grass. Look for my Red Bull flag tied to the inner fence. I'll be wearing my purple shirt with the neon skulls and if I can find one, a stupidly oversized and/or colourful hat!

Seriously, I'm worse than TNA fans at trying to get myself over on TV! :D

Talking points - Red Bull's first ever front row shut-out, Rosberg out-qualifying Schumi, and Hamilton failing to reach Q3. He just doesn't seem to like Australia, does he!
