McCourt started the negotiations at $2 billion expecting to knock it down to around just $1 billion and instead Magic Johnson just went "DEAL!" and shook his hand.

The Red Sox less than 10 years ago were sold for maybe a third of what the Dodgers went for - and that included Fenway Park. Hell, the Cubs didn't even get half.

I think, seeing how much money the ownership of the Red Sox has made, McCourt knew he was in a good selling position. The Dodgers will be worth plenty more in the coming years, their stadium is a goldmine.

Oh, and I'd definitely like to see DMN's thoughts on this. I'm in agreement with Meac that he's probably a very happy guy.

Since no one else has mentioned it, it looks like the Reds gave Votto a 10 year/$225 million extension. It seems the monopoly money contracts are the last thing to return in the post 'roids era. Cain and Votto just don't seem like the guys I'd break the bank for, but that could just be because I'm a Mets fan and we're shopping with coupons for free agents

Also, the Votto contract is hilarious. He's worth so much less, but I guess credit goes to his agent for working this out right after the two best 1B in the game got two mammoth contracts. The Cain contract is not as bad, but still bad. As I said, all that does is guarantee Lincecum will be pitching in the AL East for around $750,000 a start.
