In the absence of @Katsuya who is already in Tel-Aviv - here's this year's Eurovision Song Contest thread. The semi-finals are on tonight and Thursday night (on BBC Four) before the final on Saturday night.

Highlights tonight will include the above BDSM-themed Icelandic rebel group; a woman 20 feet high on a pole singing opera; Georgian apocalypse; and a Greek woman throwing a balloon around with fencers.

And to think that people don't take Eurovision seriously.

Unless they're whinging about the UK coming last, of course, in which case it's proof that Brexit's a good idea.

I voted for an independent Scotland so we could win Eurovision, damn it!

Also, not seen any of the build-up until now, so this should be fun! Iceland all the way!

Australia, Belarus, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Iceland, San Marino, Serbia and Slovenia all went through last night. 

 

Belgium, Finland, Georgia, Hungary, Montenegro, Poland and Portugal were all eliminated.

San Marino in the final? Nice.

Wait a second. Finland, heroes of Eurovision, recruited legendary DARUDE, and didn't even qualify?

I quite liked Poland's which never got through, it had a bit of attitude about it, and actually loved Latvia's song which never went through either. Romania is worth a listen too. The rest were okay to bad, but really no absolutely bad songs going out in the semis. The final should be interesting!

the postcards are so great this year because I know I'm waiting for a drop. The setups should get increasingly more preposterous every time.

I can see the Czechs winning, or that disgustingly sweet song from Denmark. Sweden's is probably the best actual song so far.

The Slovenia song was genuinely creepy. It was like watching two cousins touch each other up. I felt dirty.

They look like BBC idents! I'm just waiting for a voiceover person to tell me that Homes Under The Hammer is coming up next.

Slovenia was amazing and you all know it. This will be won by the moribund offering of Sweden or Netherlands.

The UK entrant is a decent singer. He'll still finish in the bottom five, though.

Honestly thusfar I think I've liked Malta and Cyprus the best thusfar. The bald guy from Norway has done us proud, though.

I think France could go well.

I reckon so. I've now got each way bets on Australia, Slovenia, France, Norway and UK (lol).

I backed Italy and Iceland each way.

I have no idea how either will do.
