Oh for sure but they all communicate so I can imagine they backed off of Leftwich once he indicated he's likely going for the Jaguars job. Maybe you can hope to wow him but otherwise doesn't make sense to waste either of their time just going through the motions when there's enough of that already with black candidates. To the second point, I 100% agree and I was worried it was going to change the 49ers minds the deeper the Falcons got into the playoffs when it was obvious Shanahan was their guy for weeks. They should really just wait until after the season is done entirely to hire coaches but then that'd push the whole draft process timeline back a bit and they can't do that for....some reason? To me, the idea that every team with an opening isn't tripping over themselves to bring DeMeco Ryans in for an interview is a big indication of how bad teams are at this stuff. I would hate to see him leave for obvious selfish reasons but after the past two months, and especially the past two weeks, I don't see how you can't want to talk to the guy. If Brandon Staley can go from SB Nation message board commenter to NFL Head Coach within 5 years, I don't see how a former all-pro LB doesn't get the same treatment. What he's done with the 49ers defense when it could understandably be a down year for them after losing Saleh is truly remarkable. I think Mike McDaniel is going to be a head coach some day and he got a lot of publicity recently because of his fun pressers but if there's a 49ers coordinator that anybody should be interviewing, it's Ryans.

To be fair, Leftwich seems almost like a lock for the Jaguars job. It was a big rumor a week or two ago and things have been pretty quiet for them since and now he's doing his second interview tomorrow so I would imagine they announce that sooner than later now that the Bucs are out. The NFL clearly still has a big problem with hiring minorities at all levels of personnel but Leftwich specifically seems to be set.
