  1. 1. Metal Gear Solid 4 - Well, it does look like the BEST GAME EVER, and judging by the online beta, it is...plus, only 8 days to wait between release and the end of the exams, unlike some games (GTA IV, I'm looking at you). It's kinda like Harry Potter 7 really...I wanna play it, but I also don't want it to end. 2. Super Smash Bros. - Again, no playing 'till post GCSEs, but will be fun for multiplayer with friends in the Summer, and I suppose I can show some people that the world doesn't consist of totally serious games one after the other. 3. Hitman Sequel - I've played through Blood Money twice, and I cannot get enough of it...there are very few complaints I can have against it, so I am really looking forward to this.
  2. METAL GEAR SOLID 4 (MGS4) WHAT IS IT? WHAT CONSOLES IS IT ON? Metal Gear Solid 4 is the 6th canonical (10th including the Snake's Revenge, Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel, Metal Gear Acid and Metal Gear Acid 2 spin-off games) game in the Metal Gear series (following Metal Gear 1 and 2, and Metal Gear Solid 1-3). From the beginning, these have been primarily spying games, but the MGS4 gives the player the opportunity to play the game as a shooter instead, encountering (and taking out) most of the enemies in your path. There is the usual new features that allow the player to be more sneaky than ever. In terms of what consoles, the game will (and will remain) purely be on the Playstation 3. This is mainly due to the fact that even a Blu-Ray disc is very nearly totally filled by the game, so unless Microsoft decide to fit a Blu-Ray drive, then it can't physically be put onto a Xbox 360. WHO DO YOU PLAY AS? WHAT IS HE DOING? Unlike the last chronological game in the Metal Gear Solid series, you play this one mainly as Solid Snake, veteran spy and general bad ass. One of three clones of legendary mercenary Big Boss, along with Liquid Snake and Solidus Snake, Solid Snake inherited his recessive genes, but is even a better soldier than his father who he has defeated twice before, in Metal Gear 1 and 2. Snake, now codenamed 'Old Snake', is suffering from FOXDIE, which will kill him at a random time in the future. He has been hired by his old boss Colonel Roy Campbell to travel around the world, putting an end to Liquid Snake, who has inhabited the body of Revolver Ocelot through his arm, which was taken after Ocelot lost his own, all during the events of Metal Gear Solid. WHY ARE PEOPLE LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS? Well, due to Snake's old age and repeated information from Kojima, this is probably Snake's last hurrah. It also looks like one of the best games ever, in terms of gameplay and graphics, which can be seen in the Online Beta that is on it's way to wrapping up. The games, whilst sometimes hard to follow, are generally entertaining, and this will wrap up all the loose ends left open since Snake's last appearance in MGS2. For yanks who haven't followed this series, the best way to catch up is with the MGS: Essential Collection, which is either $19.99 or $29.99, very cheap for arguably two of the best PS2 games and one incredibly good PS1 game. For British people, eBay is your best option, along with pre-owned sections at places like GAME or Gamestation (I reckon CSAMH would gladly point you in the right direction if you come along to his place). OTHER LINKS: I don't believe one person can do this story justice, as it is detailed, but no more than for someone entering the 6th movie in a series for the first time. Therefore, I recommend checking out The Metal Gear Wikipedia, because who are more meticulous than fanboys? ======= Yeah, I didn't notice another thread for this. The first review came in today, by OPSM (Official Playstation Magazine) and they *shockingly* gave it a 10/10. There is an image below with their reasoning for it, but I put the image in tags since the last line could be considered proper 'spoilers'. Spoiler: Click here to view If this truly is the last 'Metal Gear Solid', then hopefully we can get another spying game by Kojima set in the same universe or elsewhere. Metal Gear Raiden the bad ass anyone?
  3. Okay, that eliminator is pretty good. The lack of swinging for the finish is a disappointment however.
  4. That event has gotta be one of the most challenging ones...especially with the whole higher ground.
  5. He's an ex-british wrestler (or current, I dunno if he's retired) who I've seen at two shows. I'm assuming that he was used because he's the only guy who can speak into a microphone without sounding like a total idiot. EDIT: Spartan is a fucking Orton wannabe too.
  6. I agree. It is way, way too quiet.
  7. Eh, it was bound to happen. Everyone hates us. We're still going up though
  8. Can I also point out that Japan and Europe are probably the core demographics, as just behind Japan, we in Europe are the best buyers of MGS.
  9. Mine was shipped on April 24th. Unless Royal Mail are also in cahoots, I think I may have it tomorrow, but I won't be able to play it until Tuesday.
  10. I've got my GCSE German Oral on Tuesday. As soon as I cross that hurdle, I suppose I can give myself a night off for the sweet elixir that is GTA IV. Mine is apparently dispatched.
  11. Argh. So my internet stopped working temporarily, and I thought it would make sense to restart download of 1.02 as it just wasn't moving. Then when it wouldn't log me in, I thought "Shit, I've gone wrong here. I'm gonna have to reinstall the game." So now, 5 hours later, I've reconnected my net, and I am on 2% of 1.01. This is most displeasing. You guys are lucky.
  12. Is anywhere still selling this for pre-order on the PS3 that will get it to me on release or a few days after? Any help would be great
  13. From what I know... All the Sonic Games are not the best, but considering your son has probably not played any older Sonic games, he should probably like them just fine. Excite Truck is apparently not great either. However, if you look at it as 18 games at what could potentially be a max of $290, which makes it around $16 per game, the deal sounds pretty good. Many of these games, especially the Wii ones, could be sold for more than that if your Son doesn't like them, so no problems there. The only thing is Red Steel is rated T, so it may not be suitable for your son. You could always sell it however. Many of the games are also best when Multiplayer, but I suppose you intend to play these games with him, and therefore there are no problems there.
  14. Just play around in Photoshop, and when you can honestly say to yourself..."Damn, that looks good", then you are ready to stick to a style for a while. Like someone else said though, keep evolving and take any criticism that anyone gives you. I don't consider myself excellent at graphics design, but the people on here got me into it and I'm slowly improving, and if you take time, and don't worry about 'tags', then you should too.
  15. Just a quick point. If you haven't played it yet, I would avoid any FIFA Street bundle like the plague. I played the demo and it is utter rubbish compared to the older games, and no fun whatsoever.
  16. Yeah, I'll throw my name into the hat, but all of you will simply murdernise me.
  17. I echo the sentiments on the topic of Band of Brothers. Kick ass series, watched it about 5 months ago now. I also say that 300 is probably the best movie I've watched for battles. Absolutely fantastic in every meaning of the term.
  18. Okay, so I'm with Leeds, summer of 2009, and I've just got promoted to the Premiership. I'll probably have around £10-£15m to spend on new signings this summer. I need a new Keeper probably (still got Ankergren, he's very solid though), a more solid defense, some midfielders and a couple of strikers. My team as it stands: GK Casper Ankergren DR Frazer Richardson DL Ben Parker DC Paul Huntington DC Rui Marques DMC Sergio Hellings MC David Prutton MC Pedro AMC Antoine Sibierski FC Adam McGurk FC Michael Chopra S1 Alan Martin S2 Matt Heath S3 Jonny Howson S4 Marvin Williams S5 Dominic Matteo Anyone else in the squad is generally someone who I haven't been able to offload yet, with a couple of solid backup guys. If anyone has any recommendations for guys who can really help me in what will be a very tough season, they will be graciously accepted.
  19. Whoever sets it up for us, therefore getting the main controller off of the console. It is better to be P1 in the case of a game like Pro Evo, but for Wii Sports it can be a problem in games such as bowling, as it doesn't allow you a 'target' score.
  20. Blockbuster staff are probably the best, purely because my dad holds the record in there for DVDs rented (terribly sad), so they know us well, and they don't mind chatting about games etc.
  21. Bit late here, but Ratchet and Clank too...tremendous fun, and I've spent like 5 hours on it so far I reckon, and I can't be more than 40-60% into it.
  22. Just thought I'd point this out. Midway announced their performance for 2007 just recently. Quoted from gamedaily.com:
  23. Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. Day of great results. Who else is in the Semis?
  24. Eh, turns out I finish on the 20th anyway, which is pretty much when my brother will relinquish control of the game for the first time, the MGS addict he is. Anyway, Raiden is bad ass in the new one, and also, does anyone else see this bundle they are doing in the US for the release tipping or nearly tipping console war? Finally, is it true the PS3s are outselling the 360s in the UK? Oh yeah, two fairly random questions, but hopefully fairly MGS related enough.
  25. Right...right in the middle of my GCSEs. I feel like crying. This means I won't be touching it for about 2 weeks after release. Bloody hell. Hope I can avoid too many spoilers.
