  1. What? Alves will be walking into the cage somewhere above 190. If he won't stop cutting at 185 now, why would he stop cutting at 180 if a 180 class was introduced? Fighters will always cut to the lowest possible weight, because as you said, they want every competitive advantage possible. Having weigh-ins a couple of hours before the show takes away that competitive advantage, because fighters don't have 24 hours to hydrate back up...if they do a quick rehydration in an hour or two, their bodies won't be in any sort of competitive fighting shape, so they won't bother trying and will gravitate towards a more natural weight class! The argument is that they still wouldn't stop trying, so the day-before weigh-ins are more to protect the fighters from themselves than anything. I'm not sure which side I fall on, personally, but I also don't find the weight discrepancies to be much of a problem anyway. It's all part of the sport to me. Also, I will die laughing if Kos beats GSP.
  2. Cain Velasquez wrestled at heavyweight against one of the toughest crops of heavyweight talent in NCAA history. He has a win over Cole Konrad who is about the same size and a better wrestler than Brock was. Cain might not have the power that Carwin does, but I wouldn't call Carwin a better striker. For me, Cain presents a much better challenge for Brock than Carwin ever did, and we saw how close that fight was.
  3. Right, so I've downloaded EWR, downloaded Arsenic, got some nice screens and the latest stats update. All I need are some pictures to make it complete. Is there anywhere to download an up-to-date pic pack for Bill's updates?
  4. I can't get as excited about a guy who runs backwards when he gets hit like Lesnar does as everyone else. He looked dreadful in the stand-up department, and though he has power, Carwin isn't exactly high caliber there either. Still, a great turnaround and Brock demonstrated his progress as a fighter locking up that submission. The guy only has two years training under his belt, so his potential is limitless. I still think Cain Velasquez is a bad motherfucker who is going to take it to Brock pretty good. Cain is a way better wrestler than Carwin, who as I said before, was nowhere near the caliber of Brock in wrestling. Velasquez might be.
  5. Why is Leben a dick? It's Akiyama who was doing all the talking. (Granted I haven't bothered to watch the countdown show, but also bear in mind that those things create more drama than is really there regardless)
  6. I'm gonna take Lesnar. People like to talk about Carwin's punching power being something Lesnar hasn't seen yet, but Carwin hasn't faced anyone half the athlete Lesnar is, or with the wrestling background. The wrestling will not cancel out here, Carwin isn't close to Lesnar's caliber in that area. Lytle/Brown will be a fun little war, too.
  7. Yeah, wasn't blaming the UFC. Poor Jardine if he gets cut after this and has staph.
  8. Apparently Hamill had a staph infection and was cleared to compete against Jardine anyway. Pretty dreadful.
  9. Oh. Then all three would probably destroy him. Except maybe Shamrock.
  10. I think a motivated Timmy beats Pedro. He looks to want to get his career back on track, if only to collect a few more paydays. People are forgetting, he lost to Nogueira, Fedor, and Ray Mercer. As embarrassing as the Mercer loss is, he was standing with a great pro boxer, it's not exactly an indictment on anything other than poor game planning. I think the weight issue is a bigger one for him, but if I recall correctly, he came in better shape for the Pudz fight than he has in some of his more recent outings (not that it takes much). I also think Barnett would beat him up and Shamrock would be an easy win. Pedro is the best fight for him because it's a fight he should be able to win against a somewhat credible opponent.
  11. I'm not sure I agree. It's slow and plodding, but I found that added to the suspense and made it all the more compelling. I'll concede that i'm probably more interested in watching grappling than most though.
  12. Rothwell was still very lucid and in no danger of being KO'd. They were hard shots and it looked brutal, but Yves absolutely made the right call. Rothwell is a tough dude. Terrible fight though, neither looked good.
  13. Some Croatian site interviewed Mirko following 115 and though the translations are poor, it appears that he said this might be his last fight, and that it was one of his favorites of his whole career. It'd be a good note to go out on, if that's true. Either way, if they can lure him back, he shouldn't fight Rothwell if he's only gonna fight once or twice more. Give him Nogueira as a final fight.
  14. I wouldn't call it a problem. They fought ages ago and that's a rematch Cro Cop wants. He said in several interviews at different points in his UFC tenure that he really wants that rematch. I do think, though, that a fight with Rothwell is the best choice here.
  15. Even though I had money on Barry, I couldn't be happier about Cro Cop in that fight. I'm interested to see who he'll fight next. Mir, Nogueira, and Rothwell are the frontrunners.
  16. On the UFC tip, Peter Sobotta is a +280 underdog on sportsbook. I threw negligible bets on Sobotta, Dunham, and Rothwell.
  17. I've contacted Derek, who doesn't hold onto them. I just contacted Biggz a bit ago, but haven't heard back yet.
  18. I believe the only way we're going to find them is if someone happened to save them on their computer. I have them on my old laptop that no longer stays on long enough to get them.
  19. Already checked there. The links in the posts go to the EWinventory hosted download, which is of course, not functional.
  20. Is there any way someone could get their hands on the old ToS updates for WMMA 1? I'm mostly looking for #5. It seems they've gone away along with EWinventory. It's a shame. They may not have the scope of fighters or the accuracy of the new updates, but they have nostalgic appeal.
  21. Theories on the significance of Ben not going in?
  22. Pudz has no chance against Sylvia. Not that I think Sylvia is much of a fighter anymore, but Pudz' two fights so far have not been pretty at all. The Mercer debacle was just that, but Tim was still trying to stand with a world-class boxer. Dumb strategy and the result is not surprising in that case. Pudz has nothing to offer offensively like Mercer's hands. His leg kicks are brutal, but leg kicks take time and accumulation, Pudz will gas within three minutes.
